Café Pedro 6: And now for something completely different...
Logghje
Or just take the train from Brussels South (where the Eurostar stops) to Kortrijk-Poperinge, which also stops in Zottegem and Oudenaarde  And it takes only 46 minutes from Brussels South to Oudenaarde Pfft

Well that's because you shouldn't expect the Eurostar to stop at Oudenaarde Rolling Eyes Pfft

If you want to get to Oudendaarde from outside of Belgium with an international train then you could transfer at Brussels to a local intercity train to Gent, then take the 1 and a half hour bus to Oudenaarde, and then just spend the night there Smile

Technically, according to Google Maps you can also take the bus from Brussels to Aalst, then the bus to Zottegem, then the bus to Oudenaarde, but I wouldn't recommend that.

If you are not cycling there you are not a cyclist, simple as

Yeah that was the problem. In a 3 week trip I'm not willing to take two days out of the trip just to see this museum. If it had been near a Eurostar station (which is how we are getting everywhere) then it wouldn't have been a problem.

But you should schedule a trip where you spend a few days there. It's really a great environment to take some cycle routes. There even is a Ronde Van Vlaanderen route which you could follow (don't worry, it's not the real RvV profile). And also smaller routes Wink

I will one day, just maybe not when I'm with my partner.

It's so hot outside, a piece of lava just knocked on the door asking if it could lay in the shade for a while!

In Switzerland, we have the coldest spring ever (since the ice age or so).
You can send that lava over here to warm my feet.

This is the warmest May ever recorded here. The last record was from about 1950.

Really, really cold over here (my place is around 1500m above sea),right now. We're very close to minus. This winter it was about 3,5 m of snow (my little town is the coldest in Serbia).

Btw ,where you are living,Lachi? In what city/town? I am coming every year in Bern (during winter period.) Want to know a bit more about Alps (some skiing and ski jumping).

I read an article today that there is a prediction that we will get the coldest summer from the last 200 years Sad Sad Sad. I hope it's not true

It was snowing here last Thursday, but its pretty warm now. And having been to Switzerland in spring, I can say that it is either boiling or freezing, so it must be cold Pfft

i want to ask you guys something.
it seems like most of you(or all) like summer better.
do you dislike the winter because you like warmer climate or because alot of snow can get annoying?

Interrail is pretty awesome, as Atlantius posted. I travelled with Interrail for three weeks through France and Spain about two years ago. The great thing is that you're very flexible. I planned a bit beforehand, of course, but I ended up staying at certain places longer than I originally wanted because I liked it a lot, and also, some places were less interesting than I thought, so I left earlier.

Yeah that's what I'll probably do (going with a few mates as well), stay in each city for as long as we like and maybe head back there later on in the trip.

I'd also advise you to get a youth hostel passport (you can get one here, I think). I don't know what it's like in Australia but in my experience, youth hostels in Europe are decent places to stay at pretty low expenses. And the network is pretty huge.

Awesome, thanks. Smile

As for the places you want to go, it depends a bit what you want. Cities like Prague, Amsterdam, Paris or Berlin are great but could be quite cold at the end of the year. Weather-wise, the Côte d'Azur, Spain (I can warmly recommend Barcelona) and Italy are probably better then.

Yeah, we will probably check out London, Paris and Amsterdam until the cold weather becomes annoying and then move onto Spain/Italy towards the end of the trip. Although saying that I'm sure weather will be the least of my worries seeing how awesome the beer is in europe!

I don't know how far I'll make it out of the city on my first trip to Europe. But I'll have to come there during summer in a year or two on a surfing/cycling trip !

I like a warmer climate.

I want a week or two of snow, snow can be fun sometimes, but it gets pretty annoying quite soon.

Since we had quite a cold winter here, with a lot of snow(for the Netherlands though, if the same amount fell in f.e. Norway, I think they wouldn't think its much), I'm getting tired of the cold, and I want it to be hot.
And the Netherlands get pretty chaotic when there's a lot of snow.

I just want to be able to swim etc. again, and being able to sit outside(with friends mostly) Wink

Yeah, I like hot temperatures, but in the Netherlands, if it gets about 30 degrees here, it can feel pretty hot(like 37 degrees in f.e. Italy) here.

I have SAD so its not really a choice for me Smile I much prefer being warm/hot and in the sun. I can also deal with cold and snow can be awesome but its the grey days that weigh on me can cause the SAD
