For me the best rider was Joaquim Rodriguez in terms of quality of moves and performances. He is really something to be seen when in a race like this that favoured him and he is in good form. Valverde did very well and Contador is a champ. Great race, good Froome not giving up even when 10min behind (although this should be the norm for an ambicious rider not the exception). It's true that Purito lost all the jerseys (top 3 in all them though) but he became a legend in the meantime... Best rider since Delgado? |

You're right. Rodriguez really impressed! Valverde did excellent, Contador did good (his legs weren't back to normal so he won with tactics) and Froome held on to 4th place, after a spectacular 2nd place in TDF. We've seen some excellent riding in the past 3 weeks |

Valverde finished sixth on the stage, giving him ten points. Purito didn't take any, thus losing him the four point lead he had ahead of the stage.
Btw, if Valverde hadn't crashed and lost time on the Valdezcaray stage, he would've been just 21 seconds behind Contador in the GC. This certainly was a close race, even though Contador looks dominant from the final result.

He's far from a bad sprinter. Remember that he has won mass sprints in the past, although not on pan flat stages.
I think he could've been Top 10 / 5 on most flat stages in this Vuelta if he had actually tried, due to the weak lineup of sprinters.

Following the sprinter trains, first the Liquigas one and then Degenkolb, and being a decent sprinter himself, as Pelli said.

Rodriguez isn't all that bad in a sprint himself. I am a little surprised by the fact that he didn't challenge Valverde in the final sprint. I don't know where he ended up, but i couldn't see him on the replay so I don't know wether or not he was blocked or something like that.
If he simply didn't sprint for it then I give him no credit whatsoever. After losing the red jersey partly by waiting way to long before he started chasing Contador on the deciding stage and losing the point jersey because he didn't try to follow Valverde (if that's what happend) then he doesn't deserve it.
Just to make it clear, I'm not saying he would have won the Vuelta if he had started chasing Contador earlier, but from my point of view he could have done more then he did.

Well done to Adam Hansen on completing 3 grand tours this season, also good effort by Simon Clarke being a non-climber picking up the KoM jersey

They're pretty even in terms of acceleration and explosivity, but Valverde is much better when it comes to positioning and other stuff that's important for sprinters.

He could've bloody tried - I had all my betting money on him for points. |

It deffenitaly look like he tried. He looked pretty desperate to get into a better position some kms before the finish, but it seems like he took to much wind.
How hard can it be?

So Bertie is back, very nice race to watch ,especially 2-3 stages like Barcelona and stage 17. Best GT of the year in ym eyes, still nowhere like the 09,10,11 Giros imo. I am looking forward to the next year and Saxo-Sky Tour battle
Bit of a summary from my POV:
+ Contador, Degenkolb, TenDam, Valverde,Talansky,Moreno, Purito (but it was lame to loose all jerseys)
- VdB, De Gendt, Rojas, Swift,
Special moments:
-Degenkolb owning the sprints
-Stage 17 Saxo masterpiece
-Cataldo winning the brutal finish with turtle speed
-Top 10 for Stybar in the last stage
- King is back!

That's a very nice summary and don't forget it was Stybar's first GT, he did good! |

He did good, but I was hoping at least a stage win for Stybar, especially on the sprints that had a climb on them. |

I think he just wanted to finish this one. He'll go more for stage races in next editions.
And I don't think De Gendt was that bad, he tried a couple times for stage win, he came close. There ain't no shame in that. (His preparation was really bad so I think he did pretty good even) |

I agree with this, i was not expecting much, just some top 10, maybe more breakaway action, but there were other at OPQS to do that.
