Kinda risky if you ask me. No point in saving up all the energy in the world if you're going to be sent home because of the time limit.
It worked out didn't it?

Possibly the big win that sparks things off for him...
He still has to improve a lot though. As it stands he only made it to the finish with energy enough to sprint in this stage that was extremely short and mostly downhill.
It did surprise me that he managed to do it, after finishing last on almost every mountain stage. I read an interview with him on Cyclingnews, stating that he'd rather ride his own pace up the mountains, instead of going with the gruppeto. Might have 'saved' him some energy, who knows.
Yes, certainly there is a long way to go for him but good early signs that he can win after suffering in the mountains and that he is resilient enough to deal with the panning he has apparently been taking at the hands of the Italian press. |

That's the thing with risky tactics; They either work out or fail miserably.
How hard can it be?

Guardini, Ventoso and Haedo really want to make it to Milan I guess. Good tactics by them.
Will keep an eye on Casar's GC today.

Guardini must have balls of steel if he risks coming in behind the grupetto just to save a little bit more energy then everyone else.

Perhaps he realises he'll come in behind the grupetto if he won't attack?
That's what happened last mountain stage anyway. |

Just saw that Rujano finished 20 minutes behind Juan Antonio Flecha on the 17th stage. Poor man.

Ah, the Manghen, great climb especially for hobby cyclists, lots of hm, not much traffic, small roads, non touristic scenery, and there was someone here that called Verbier a big climb in the tdf, some time ago. |

Avin was sarcastic. He meant that there hasn't been any major action so far.
