lost 5 mins on the last stage that also saw 3rd placed sastre withdraw due to broken collarbone. I simmed the stage, so guessing crash. Only madrid stage left, so contador has won the vuelta

Damn!
Sanchez cracked on the final mountain stage, so unfortunate! (the stage isn't even that hard...) |

Like I said to Neilster, I'm guessing that there was a crash. Sastre was forced to withdraw with broken collarbone on the same stage.

11th - 18th September 2011 - Tour of Britain
My final race before I head to the World Championship is the Tour of Britain. I am really excited to be riding in my home Tour, and looking forward to showing off the British Champions jersey on home soil. Cycling has really taken off in Britain recently, so expecting lots of fans at the roadside.
The Tour of Britain only allows 6 riders per team, so we come here with a very focused team. The 2010 winner Michael Albasini will lead the team in defense of his title, and will be aided by Tony Martin.
I will be leading the team in the sprints, helped out by Mark Renshaw and Matt Brammeier.
Isaac Côté completes the line up, hoping to again impress us, and will be given a free role, aimming for the KoM jersey.

11th September 2011 - Tour of Britain
(Rochdale - Blackpool)
Stage One looks like a stage for the sprinters. After the peleton head out of Rochdale, we head towards the Ribble Valley and the Trough of Bowland, before looping back towards Blackpool for a flat, fast finish.
The team will be focused on setting me up for the win, but we will also look to make an early claim for the KoM jersey with Isaac.
4km: The day's break formed very early, as the peleton headed out of Rochdale. Seven riders in total attacked, including Côté.
14km: On the climb to first KoM sprint on the Lancashire Moors, further attacks went off the front of the peleton, trying to bridge the gap to the lead group.
15km: In the sprint for the line, Egidijus Juodvalkis (Landbouwkrediet) took the 6 points on offer, with Isaac taking second.
21km: Garmin's Martijn Maaskant led the peleton down the descent off the Moors, giving the break a freedom to open up a 2'13" gap.
34km: As the break's size grew to 18, the peleton would be forced to react.
38km: The size of break was deemed far too dangerous for the peleton, and soon the pace was upped in an attempt to pull them back.
46km: With the gap under 30", Isaac made the decision to attack off on his own.
57km: Isaac crested the top of the KoM sprint first, whilst behind, Sam Bewley (Radioshack) and Sébastien Delfosse (Landbouwkrediet) were chasing him down.
61km: The narrow roads on the descent caused havoc on the peleton, and soon splits appeared.
68km: Over the final climb of the day, Sam Bewley took the points, but the 3rd place for Isaac was enough to give him the jersey tomorrow.
101km: On the descent towards Blackpool, Isaac was dropped by his breakaway companions, and was soon swept up by the peleton, but with the others still 2'12" clear, it was going to be a real chase to the finish.
113km: I sent Tony and Michael to the front to chase, and as we reached around 8km to go, they were caught.
117km: CRASH! Belgian Champion Nick Nuyens hits the deck, taking riders down with him, including most of the Leopard team, in a tangle of bikes
120km: Back at the front, I was unaware of what had happened behind, and as the sprint began, I was perfectly placed.
121km: And I cross the line with my arms held him! Great feeling to win on home soil, especially in the British Champions Jersey.

Spartacus to out the World Championship
Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara will not be able to defend his World ITT title in Denmark, after a crash on Stage 1 of the Tour of Britain.
The Leopard man came down in a crash, along with most of his team, 4km from the end, and has been forced to withdraw, due to a broken coccyx.
The injury will keep him off the bike until mid october, ultimately ending his season, and leaves the door open for HTC's Tony Martin and GB's Bradley Wiggins to take over his ITT crown in Copenhagen.
