Well, I sure didn't see that one coming
Curious to see how sportsmanlike Cav's reaction is gonna be.

Cav unhappy at losing no doubt. Now I'm a fan but when you want to win that much you usually don't take well to losing.
Might get an entertaining sound bite if someone can shove a microphone under his nose quickly enough (and don't water it down with footage of his daughter this time!). Great win for Guardini, credit to him.

Chicchi finished with amazing speed once again. I wish he could position himself too, then he'd have picked up quite a few podiums by now.
And my fantasy team would've liked that.

Lol, you're surprised ?
Kennaugh & Hunt left the Giro. Uran & Henao should rest before tomorrow.
That leaves 4 with Cav. Stannard and Eisel had to do a lot of work during the stage and will be tired fast. It's logical.
At the end he was much better placed than the days with all the team, but he fails miserably...
He's been placed better before in the first week and he had the whole team then. Also you sit there and just mock him, yet he's won a few stages at this years Giro and has been denied others due to crashes so he hasn't really failed miserably as he came 2nd it was just an off day... |

Did I just read that?
Oh wait, there's a sarcasm smiley there!
Yea I don't like Cav that much btw. Never wanted him really at Sky. The smiley wasn't meant to be sarcastic here
Hah, still a rare sight to see you say something like that about a Sky rider.

Haha. Well he's the only Sky rider I don't really like that much. It's great when he wins like but I don't care that much. When he gets owned from time to time, well it's a sight to enjoy

He's being saved for the Tour team
BTW, to people who complain about Giro being controlled by Liqui and making it boring. If you do then don't watch Dauhpine. With the strenght of Sky are sending they will control the race even more than Liqui does at Giro
Spoiler FROOME Christopher
HAGEN Edvald Boasson
KNEES Christian
PATE Danny
PORTE Richie
ROGERS Michael
SIVTSOV Kanstantsin
WIGGINS Bradley

First I thought Cavendish was tired from the intermediate sprint, but watching the replay, Ferrari had his wheel for a long time and still couldn't make any impression at all until Cav stopped pedalling.
In other words, Cavendish wasn't slow, Guardini was just fast.

He only was as well placed as today in stage 5 and 11(until the fall). Sky train has been a shit all the Giro, but he won anyway.
Today he only has to pass his mate and he fails miserably

He's probably pissed at himself as he left it a bit late
He started his sprint at the same time as Guardini
Cavendish was outclassed today. Rarely happens. But this was the fact. |

He said on Twitter that he thought he left it too late and his reaction I think was mainly at himself for being beaten. |

Wow, just saw the replay and I've got to say I did not see that one coming! Awesome surprise today. After failing in every sprint till now, Guardini takes the last chance to show himself and proves he actually is a future world class sprinter. I mean he just outsprinted the best in the world in a totally clean finish.
"Ieri ultimo, oggi primo" were Rai1 comentator's words at the finish line, meaning "Yesterday last, today first".

Don't like to see Cavendish lose (even if his reaction to losing sometimes almost makes it worth it ) but that looked very impressive and clean as a whistle from Guardini - as good a leadout as Sky have had, Guardini did well to find a clear line then just put the power down. Possibly the big win that sparks things off for him... |

He still has to improve a lot though. As it stands he only made it to the finish with energy enough to sprint in this stage that was extremely short and mostly downhill.

It did surprise me that he managed to do it, after finishing last on almost every mountain stage. I read an interview with him on Cyclingnews, stating that he'd rather ride his own pace up the mountains, instead of going with the gruppeto. Might have 'saved' him some energy, who knows.

Kinda risky if you ask me. No point in saving up all the energy in the world if you're going to be sent home because of the time limit.
