Good start of the season for Cobo.
Guess who's back? Smile
Lets see how many friens are still around...

A nice 2nd place on GC for CoboSmile

@all: Thanks! Indeed a good start from Cobo. Brutt's climbing isn't that surprising as he has 77 in hill. He and Cobo were the two best punchers starting but Brutt was stronger..

Stage 5: McLaren Vale - Old Willunga Hill 151.0 km

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down1.jpg

The stage over the Willunga hill has always been decisive for the final outcome in the Tour Down Under. And the finish lays on the hill itself this time. This is probably the perfect place for Florencio to take some time on the sprinters.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down2.jpg

The day starts with Team Geox showing their new jersey. The manager wasn't very happy with the others and then decided to change them. The assured the UCI that they would finish the season with these jerseys.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down3.jpg

J. Sagan (Liquigas) was the only rider in front when approaching the intermediate sprint. Colli then brought Corti to the front and the Italian could take 2nd place.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down4.jpg

The two Geox riders and 4 others join Sagan to form the break of the day. Sagan sprints away of Corti for the 2nd intermediate sprint. He couldn't respond to Sagans kick but took back the sprinters jersey with his 2nd place.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down5.jpg

Corti dropped back to the pack after the sprint. Colli (Geox), (Phinney (BMC), Dean (Garmin), Ignatiev (Katusha), Jeandesbosz (Saur) and Sagan remained in front with a good chance for the stage win. Unfortunately, Colli can't follow on the first ascent of the Willunga hill.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down6.jpg

Ignatiev attacked from his companions on the first slopes of the final ascent. Is he, as always, too agressive or can he keep up on the steeper parts?

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down8.jpg

Phinney and Dean came close in the closing metres but Ignatiev could keep up to take a nice win. They are all too far behind in the GC to be any danger.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down7.jpg

None of the favourites made a move before the kite. Breschel then jumped away and could take 10" on his opponents. Florencio comes in in the group without any chance to take back any time.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down9.jpg

Ignatiev's attacking finally rewarded.

The day started good with Corti taking back the intermediate sprints. We had Colli in the succesfull break but he got dropped and was caught by the pack. Florencio never looked like he could take back any time but he is still in the top 10.

baia
Yep...good stage and Florencio managed to stay out of danger...
i1312.photobucket.com/albums/t525/baia3/FDJprofileban_zps42833c10.jpg

vangerner
Good stage for Florencio, 8th in the first race of the season is an good result!

Spilak23
@baia and vangerner: Florencio's result was not bad but I had expected more. I think the stage categorised as flat and the 3 km uphill sprinted made up for no gaps.

Stage 6: Adelaide - Adelaide 90.2 km

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down10.jpg

The Tour Down Under ends with a criterium in Adelaide. Corti will go in the break to take the intermediate sprints and assure the points-jersey.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down11.jpg

In a close sprint with Klemme, Corti wins the first intermediate sprint. This means he has assured himself the points-jersey.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down12.jpg

A large break with 14 riders is formed after the sprint. Perez, Sanz (Movistar), Kostyuk (Lampre), Klemme (Audi), Urtasun (Euskaltel), Galimzyanov (Katusha), Mortensen (SaxoBank), Bookwalter (BMC), Vermeltfoort (Rabobank), Gardeyn (Vacansoleil), Klier (Garmin), Vaugrenard (Saur), Schär and Corti (Geox).

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down13.jpg

They could create a good gap untill Lotto (Greipel), Sky (Henderson) and Greenedge (Boasson Hagen) started chasing them. A hard task with such a big group.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down14.jpg

The chase wouldnot succeed so the escapees can sprint for the win. Vermeltfoort is leading with Gardeyn and Urtasun in his wheel. Schär can't bring Corti in a good position.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/down15.jpg

Urtasun took a good win in front of Mortensen and Gardeyn. Corti sprinted to 6th while the sprinters brought the pack back in the closing kilometres.

Good stage by Corti taking the points-jersey and also finishing 6th on the day. Overal a good result with Florencio. 8th is a good start in the World Tour.

Very nice opening for Geox. Cobo did well in San Luis coming in 2nd and Florencio stayed strong troughout to keep his 8th in GC.
Corti did awesome though, and possibly best Geox rider. Getting into the breaks and winning that points jersey. Well done Wink

The Giro dell Calabria is the European opening to the season. Last years edition was won by Gianluca Brambilla after a succesfull break on the first stage.

The first two stages have hard finishes and will probably decide the overal. The last one is also hard but the last kms are flat so probably a chance for a succesfull break.

The top favourite in this startlist is ofcourse Peter Sagan. Sagan combines strong punch skills with a good sprint and could actually win all 3 stages. Guys like Pietropolli, Malacarne and Bole will challenge him though.

We bring two strong leaders. Both De La Fuente and Felline should be able to challenge the best here. Ardila, Wyss, Cheula, Stortoni and Pelucchi will help them and one of them will probably get a chance to go in the break on the last stage.

With the form of De La Fuente so early you must win! Only a BOTD win will be able to block you!
