Parenteau and a fifth for Briere the latest trade in..
Anyhow, here's the latest as far as RW news
Which is quite expensive, but still much less than what Niskanen would have asked for (which I presume would be around 6 or 7 years at 7.5M).
Around the league:
Del Zotto heads to UFA
Jarome likely to re-sign
Stastny sure to leave
And a bunch of teams interested in Ehrhoff
Vanek to MN?
Brodeur unlikely to get what he wants with Miller, Hiller, and even Reimer on the move
Jokinen wanted $4M, Pens wouldn't budge
Much more exciting than NBA free agency .. right, right?

At first I nearly fell over at the Dan Boyle rumor contract but I guess that will surely get him to Detroit and two years should be enough time to allow our prospects to develop (even though I would prefer a one-year deal). That offer would take up over half of the salary cap the Wings have left, so I'm guessing they are hoping to use the other half on Alfredsson. It only makes sense.

Hoping we re-sign/offer Santorelli a contract. He was my team MVP last year, and he is a valuable tweener. Apparently we dont want to give him anything longer than a 1 year contract and he wants a longer deal, but for a contract worth at most 2.5mil for a guy that was on pace for 50 points. I really do think the team started its decline because of his injury. He was our best even strength player last year, statistically.

Free agent frenzy about to start, i sure hope Sather has taken a chill pill Hopefully we can afford to keep Strålman but i'm not getting my hopes up. The market for a solid right handed big minute D-man is too good i think, he might get $5m+ :/
Will be a very interesting trade market after the big guns choose their destinations, when Ehrhoff, Stastny and Niskanen has signed the teams that doesn't get them might go crazy. |

Really happy we signed Boyle, he is the perfect fit. We desperately needed a new QB for the PP after Brad was bought out and we also needed someone to play with Staal in the second pair, Boyle ticks all the boxes. Having a right handed playmaker for the PP is really good too since all our shooter are lefthanded, was a bit awkward with Brad trying to set up lefthanded shooters. |

No, Dallas is. Pittsburgh are filling gaps.
Dallas now have Spezza and Hemsky and will be a killer 2nd line, just like last year in Ottawa. They just got Lindback too as backup.
Ryan Johansen is apparently far apart from a deal with Columbus and rumours are Vancouver is interested in a deal with them. Meanwhile Miller signs with Vancouver. Miller will get 50 games and Lack will get 30 probably. Makes Markstrom moveable, so maybe he would be included in a package for Johansen.

Wow, Caps just signed Orpik for $5.5M for 5 years, thats one of the worst contracts i've ever seen. Worse then Clarksons, hilarious, i'm laughing my ass off. |

We got Dan Boyle.
That covers Strallman I guess, but it doesn't help the money issues Sather keeps talking about.
Also, I was hoping McIlrath would be able to develop and keep up in the NHL so he could give us minutes.
Edit: I also don't understand why Brodeur is so intent on leaving New Jersey. He has been with the team for over 20 years, and done amazing things. He is 42; he isn't elite anymore. Honestly retiring would be a better option. I don't understand why he would taint his career like that, instead of just retiring a legend in the eyes of all his Jersey fans. now they'll be bitter.

bbl - It does help the money issues, Boyle is on a 2 year deal, Strålman wanted alot longer term. 2 years is manageable 5+ isn't with the contract situation a few years forward. Boyle will be perfect for our PP also, better fit then Brad was because all our shooters are lefties, having a rightie QB fits more, less awkward to pass for one timers. |

Great news, Dominic Moore resigns for 2 years at $1.5M. Really important to not lose both Moore and Brian Boyle, had to keep atleast one of them, hopefully both. |

Wonderful news! great to keep on.
Hope we can keep Boyle, but if he doesn't get the minutes he wants he will leave.

Kenny Holland, I want to trust you, but what are you doing? Out of the running for Niskanen now. Suter situation all over again.
Welp. Welcome back Kyle Quincey!?

I dont see why anyone would want Niskanen for 7mil a year. I am still upset about the Miller deal, but TSN was just saying the Cap might rise to almost 80mil in a year or two, so the 6mil/yr deal wont be as bad then.
I doubt we make the playoffs this year anyway. I'd like the chance to draft in the Top 5. I'd like a shot at Hanafin, Eichel, McDavid, Barzal, Kylington, Konecny, Strome, or maybe even Zacha, so losing out on Iggy especially for 5mil/yr Im okay with as well.

It's not that we want to pay Niskanen $7M, but we have to get someone with likely 9-10M of free cap space. At this point I just don't know. Unlikely we have enough pieces to trade for Myers or Yandle.

Trade a 1st and Tyler Bertuzzi for Myers? +/- a few different draft picks and maybe Almquist? Ristolainen is better than Myers or will be anyway, imo and Myers is a great fit for Detroit actually, plus I dont want him on Vancouver.

Would like to see Myers play for the Wings. Born in Houston too!
But according to what I'm hearing it would cost Mantha + Jurco/Tatar + 1st rounder, possibly more. Not sure if I'm ready to do that.
