Nah, I dont think Houston will do great either this year. It just seems to me like their stars, Howard and Harden, are too egoistic, too concerned about touches and stats. Trail Blazers are a great team, but they couldn't get it done. So how are they supposed to get it done this year with a roster slightly worse and maybe an ever stronger Western Conference? I just dont see it. Harden and Howard don't seem like winners to me, I could be wrong though.
They are definitely fun to watch, but right now Ill put Spurs, Thunder, Clips, Warriors, Mavericks and Blazers ahead of them. And I definitely can't see them be competitive in a 7 game series against the 3 best team in the West. But maybe Terrence Jones can emerge, who knows? I actually like his game. |

Well, like many have said before, this team is never a top 3 team and will never be with Harden at the centerpiece -- it's just not happening.
They would have needed 3 superstars (championship formula) + one good player to have a shot. That would have meant, Harden, Howard, Bosh, +Parsons could've been matched and go over cap signing own player. But now, more years of mediocrity....

Yup, it really stank with Bosh. But even then they would still have to get past the West powerhouses (which certainly would have been easier with Bosh, but how much has he left? - I dont think he suddenly can turn the switch on again, he is 31 now). For now, their sealing seems to be the 2. round, and thats definitely best case scenario.
I wouldn't call it mediocrity though. Put them in the East and you have gotten yourself a top-3 team out there. If Howard for some reason decided to hit free throws and Harden began not to worry so much about his stats, they CAN upset anybody with some luck. I just dont see it happening since they really stunk it up in the summer - imagine Bosh or Gasol on that team.. |

I use the term mediocrity because look at it this way--
whether they have made the playoffs or not,
1. Houston has never been on the "top tier" of teams in the west in recent memory
2. They haven't been tanking or gotten particularly high draft picks since Yao Ming.
What I'm trying to say is, when Morey traded for Harden and signed D12, you'd think they'd make a push at getting that last piece. Not that it's his fault that Bosh didn't want to come here, but if we signed Bosh, 1) Gives us a chance and at least puts us in the top "tier", 2) For the next three years we become a destination for mid-level players
Now, however, you have a young player in Harden, and Howard, who is at his peak, but the window of opportunity is slowly passing with no clear intention to make a push.

Ready for some basketball action now. Enough of the pickup games and given my equipment, I should be able to dominate Jordan-style. Total of nearly 1800 which I think is about 250 Euros. I would love to have those Air Jordan 11 models, but I can't find anywhere to buy them.. oh well, I found some dope sneakers anywaaaays. |

Actually, I dont really like Miami. The reason being it was the cheapest T-shirt with the climate-thing (I also have a Golden State of those, I absolutely love them..), so it was kinda easy to pick that up along the way.
And ooooh, by the way... the same Miami Heat will play the first preseason game today of the season. Should be interesting to see if Wade still runs like my 45 years old mom.

And just a little prediction here of the playoff picture before the preseason for the West. Always fun to make a fool of yourself with those.
1. Thunder
2. Spurs
3. Warriors
4. Clippers
5. Mavericks
6. Blazers
7. Rockets
8. Nuggets |

1. OKC
2. SA
3. LAC
4. POR
5. GSW
6. DAL
7. HOU
8. MEM
So, same 8 teams as last year. That's why the prediction is wrong already

I have no idea of basketball but San Antonio Spurs got beaten by Alba Berlin 94:93.
I guess that match makes the top 3 of historic achievements in German basketball, wouldn't beat the Eurobasket 1993 but still top 3.

The spurs have been arguably the best team in the league for a few years now...

To be fair to the Germans though, that was kinda a big win. And it was not like Pop just sat his stars, they were actually playing pretty big minutes.
Big story is KD injred for 2 months. I say Russ will get MVP honours after going into AI mode and shoot as much as possible and also hope that it will open up for Lamb who I love. Gotta be intriguing to see how they handle that situation and especially Russ.. also Beal is unjured, similar lenght.
So far in preseason, GS has manhandled all their opponents. Their ball movement, shooting, passing bigs and off the ball screening will kill opposing team defenses. Thank god Mark Jackson is long gone. The question now is, can they crack the top-3 in the West after Durants injury? I say yes! |
