He has. Disqualification aside, he'd still win comfortably.
Perhaps we need a bet:
Will Thor win Green by more than 14 points. (or whatever the number of points Cav lost in the DQ were)
If he doesn't... it will be a tainted win. Doing something like that in a questionable call in a sprint that wasn't even for the stage win is crappy.
I sure hope Hushovd will get a 14+ point win over Cavendish. Then he and all others will have to aknowledge the legitimicy of the win. Furthermore, I do not agree that the jersey will be tainted if Hushovd wins by less than 14 points. He deserves it and has fought hard for it. |

Say he doesn't take any points today and none are scored until the Paris sprint. And no disqualification.
Cavendish would be 4 points behind hushovd.
Champs probable result
--
1 - Cavendish
2 - Hushovd
Cavendish would finish 1 point ahead of Thor.
I think it's a big assumption that Thor would get second.
Let's look at the bunch sprints Cav took part in:
Stage 2: Cav: 1 - Thor:4
Stage 3: Cav:1 - Thor:2 (but from a small group caused by wind... no other sprinters)
Stage 5: Break won... but Cav: 3 - Thor:10
Stage 10 : Cav:1 - Thor: 2
Stage 11: Cav:1 - Thor: 5
Stage 12: Break won... but Cav:8 - Thor:9
Stage 13: Break won... Cav finished 13, thor 14... before the DQ.
The fact is that while Cav has always won... Thor has NOT always been next in line. It's very possible to see a Cav:1, Thor:4 finish in Paris. That 14 point swing could very easily be what gives Thor the win.
If so... it's a very weak win of green. |

New possibility, Hushovd wins a mountain stage. What would you have put those odds at before the tour? 1000:1? 100000:1? |

Sorry... whining for a DQ on a sprint for 13th place is not "fighting hard for it"... it's being a whiner about it. It's about not being able to beat a guy head to head so using the officials to win.
I used to be a pretty big fan of Thor... and a lot of what he's done in the climbing stages where he's grabbed points is impressive... but all I take away from this tour is that he's an ass who can't stand that he's been surpassed by an arrogant kid.
Very poor sportsmanship on Thor's part in this tour. I'm hoping he crashes approaching the line in paris. |

Thor is the 2nd best sprinter in the race. I would actually be suprised if he didn't get 2nd in Paris.
It's possible he could win, he could come 5th, but the most likely outcome (based on conditions of other sprinters) he will be 2nd.

Yes, whining about the judges decision is a lot more mature. Oh wait...
You almost got your wish some days early. It's not often you see cyclists drifting in the downhill turns on tarmac. |
