Dion with genuinely the best 14th place ride I've ever seen on stage 9
He'll probably drop out of the top 5 tomorrow, but that fightback against Bennett was legendary. This is what really gets Duvel-Tsingtao management going: heroic mediocrity.
Congrats to Newton!

What a weird race this has been. First off, Pronskiy... That's an incredible ride to not give up and drag back Carapaz, and then beat him in a sprint. Well done lad! And to youngster Canal for his support in the breakaway.
Inigo might be able to climb a few spots in the final TT but overall a forgettable debut with his new team.

Hard two last stages for us, but that was to be expected - most of the team strength was in San Luis.
Still, if we can keep this top 5 and earn some more stage points tomorrow, this will be a good race given the competition.
Thank you very much KB for reporting this long and weird race!

Thanks for the complete reporting of this race kb!
Also congrats to Simba for this victory, this was a spledid ride from Kozhatayev. To the other guys finishing in front of course too!
Also nice to see how Carapaz recovered a bit on the 9th stage. Wouldnt have been this one stage where he lost so much who knows.
To our race here:
We are very satisfied overall. Like you can see at our squad our focus is different this year but Vanhoucke did very well. We wanted Top 10 and got Top 5. Thats a W. Also he could finish on the podium for a stage. A little bit sad is seeing the close gaps it could have been the podium too. But the last day with the TT wasnt superb for us. Predatsch and Campenaerts scored a bit and Vanoucke finished decent also but with a bit more luck more would have been possible.
Though nothing to really complain here. We scored in the end probably more than expected on a race like this.

First of all, congrats Caspi! Great win for your team
Also good scoring for hillis and Jakstar with their podium spots. I hope the fortune of Zwift will turn when Jorgenson appears on the scene.
Thanks KB for the reports!

Thanks for those early season big reports. 10 days always a big of a task early on.
Result wise a few unexpected performances obviously but then again this is C2 racing with are always a bit less expectable.
Bennett as 10th I`d say is fine, he probably should have "dominated" the climbs a bit more and gain time here and there instead of almost dropping.
Then again a MTT with high TT impact and a flat TT never made it a perfect race for him, which the AI also realizes and leads to less interest also on suited stages.
Even more impressed by Vanhoucke as other former rider. Love to see him being attentive and taking the top5 in the end. Those kind of races always are fun for 2nd tier riders like him. Loved to send those riders here as well several seasons back.
Krieger having a stage win here is fantastic. Iirc he also won a stage for me in Tachira in 2015 or something. |

Awesome win Caspi congrats
All went wrong for us on stage 9 tactically even though everyone individual rode well we got the wrong rider in the break in Zordan and that's cost us. |

Great reporting through the whole race kandesbunzler26, amazing work.
Congrats to Simba Cement - Tanga Fresh for the overall win.
We got a great haul from here, although we didn't meet our goal of winning.

3rd and 10th overall and some excellent results during the stages. While I wanted Bennett a bit higher or to dominate the mountains a bit more I’m glad Davila was able to get that GC position. Makes me feel very confident in the ability of Davila for stage races. Really happy with how Tachira went and while it could’ve gone better I am very satisfied with the team performance.
Excellent reports as well and great win from Caspi and his squad!

Congrats Simba and thanks for great reports.
You know I am kind of pleased with my team here. we lacked the one big challenger but between youth, KOM and a couple of top 20s and Team overall in GC we managed an OK haul overall. That is the type of thing we need this season.
Excited to have a competitive young rider in Archie Ryan

Thanks for the rapid and high quality reports KB, certainly made a stressful week at work a bit easier when I could look forward to taking a couple minutes to follow this pretty whacky race.
Quite happy with our performance on the last two stages, were obviously never going to threaten a stage win but two, almost three top tens made for a decenr end to a race that had me tearing out my hair at times. Thankfully don't have many other mountainous races without Penasa, but what I've seen from Gibbons has me kinda worried, he should really have done better in this field

Great start of the reace if first few flast stages with 2x 10th place and one surprising win from Vingerling (non wage cyclist) but the end is a bit sad as Munoz took from Primozic and became a leader from nowhere. Jaka was our leader even with lack of ITT he would be the best but shutting down on last MT stage was a bit sad to watch.
Congrats to winner and thaks for report.

Ah well, the writing was on the wall for Smith. King Lok being a bit useless as well wasn't helpful. He must've been distracted by Chinese management having a meeting of the minds with the Venezuelan authorities on the sidelines of the starting box.
A decent Tachira for us. Nothing incredible but can't complain, really.
Congrats to Caspi and thanks for all the awesome reports KB, in quick time as well! January has flown by

Thanks for all the congratulations. Both on previous results, but especially now that GC is secured.
Also thanks for the reporting. Can't tell if they were extra good because of how well it all ended for us, or if it was "just" quality work as always
Let's evaluate:
Who cares? Kozhatayev won GC and we've scored much more points than we'd hoped for. Time to celebrate

Congrats Caspi on a great 10 days (and it's really no dream, sometimes it just comes all together)! Also congrats to all the other stage and classification winners and everyone who did well in general.
For all who haven't done reporting yet: this race is a prime example what a reporter can take away from his races. It's not only a deeper insight into the other divisions (especially in longer stage races with all the different types of riders), it's also the pole position to really understand how surprise results are created. Especially the two stage wins by Caspi's riders seem odd if you haven't seen the actual racing. But Carpenter just accelaretd in a moment when the speed went down intge sprint preparation and with no one on his wheel (no surprise as a non-sprinter) got enough of a gap to keep the sprinters behind once they reacted. Kozhazayev was a similar case as he just attacked in a moment when no one was on his wheel and then everyone waited for someone else to do the chasing. It's a classic situation in late attacks, though it really took a long time for the others to start chasing. But once the gap was about a minute it seemed like it didn't was worth the effort anymore to anyone involved (again something I've seen some times in real cycling). And in the end 2 minutes more or less wozldn't have had an impact anyway.
Also Fabbro might have finished below expectations for Jasper, but he was fun to watch attacking frequently.
