After we did rather well with our goals last season we followed the same strategy this year and chose our goals with those leaders we already had in the team pre-transfers in mind. Given our puncheur-heavy setup back then it’s no surprise we did only choose hilly races with a focus on stage races.
Race | Cat | goal | USA Pro Cycling Challenge | C1 | Top 5 |
After we were done with our goal races in April last season we go the direct opposite way this year and only start our goal season in April. The route changes in USA PCC make this race a perfect fit for our team, with APP our best bet to actually finish in the top 5 of the race given his constancy in this kind of stages and races last year. His support is also strong with Boileau, Le Gac, Paulus and Oliveira being there too, especially the latter could actually score some decent result himself.
Race | Cat | goal | GP Lugano | HC | Top 5 |
GP Lugano should a festival of the punchy sprinters, so we send Oliveira here as our captain with some of the usual support squad as well. Given the clash with Milano-Torino the top-puncheurs should be split up with most of them probably racing in Italy (including APP), so we think a top 5 result could actually be possible here.
Race | Cat | goal | Tour of Britain | C1 | Win |
Our win goal this season is the final hilly stage race of the year with Tour of Britain. Given the profile it’s no surprise we’re counting on APP again to get a good GC result although we don’t really expect him to take the GC win (or even be a major competitor for it). He gets all the support available in our hills department nonetheless.
Race | goal | Team Standings | Top 15 |
A Top 15 in the team standings isn’t a very impressive goal, but it could be just manageable even if avoiding relegation is the primary goal. But if we achieve that, a top 15 result isn’t that far off.
All in all our goals aren’t very ambitious, but it will be hard to achieve any of our goals nonetheless – at least harder than last season. We fully rely on APP being constantly in the leading groups of the hilly stage races we aim at to get some good GC results – and even then probably some luck to get into the top 5 with some bonus seconds or on countback. We wouldn’t be surprised to see us 0/5 after the season, but it could also be 4/5 with things going in our favour. At least we won’t have a long time to grieve anyway with three of our four goal races near the end of the season.

With this being our first season in PCT we quickly decided we would apply for wildcards for various reasons. Most of all it’s the only way to develop our nearly maxed talents in-house, which was always our preferred option and became necessary during transfers. Additionally the wildcards give our level 3 talents the opportunity to gain enough experience to not only level up, but also allows us to max them ourselves next season even in CT. And with especially Vauquelin and Lapeira being actual scoring options there it would have been a shame to have to loan them out. This clearly has implications on our rosters for the wildcard races, especially the biggest one. But apart from developing our talents we also decided to go for wildcards because we want to race in the big races while we have the opportunity – and as a French team particularly in the biggest one of course.
Start | End | Race | Category | 13-Feb | 20-Feb | Paris - Nice | PT |
Our first PT appearance is in the second biggest French stage race for obvious reasons. Our roster consists mostly of talents who need the XP, but we hope for breakaway appearances especially from Delbove, Garibian, Lapeira, Louvel or Pithie. And we also send Ranaweera to compete for a good GC result.
Start | End | Race | Category | 01-Mar | 03-Mar | Ronde van Nederland | PT |
Our next wildcard race is the Ronde van Nederland where we also send a bunch of talents, but also experienced riders like Hadi for the breaks and Oliveira and APP for the stages and GC.
Start | End | Race | Category | 01-Jun | 03-Jun | Scandinavia Open Road Race | PT |
Our squad for the third wildcard race consists half of talents here for the XP and half of experienced domestiques for APP, who could be in for some stage results and a decent GC result in this hilly race.
Start | End | Race | Category | 03-Jul | 23-Jul | Tour de France | GT |
Our last wildcard is for the biggest race of them all: the Tour de France. We’re the first French team on the startlist for some years and want to give the country and the MGUCI universe a first glance on our talents on the biggest stage possible as we send a squad consisting almost entirely of level 3 and 4 talents. But apart from the XP we also expect riders like Vauquelin, Louvel or Lapeira to show themselves in as many breaks as possible, so we (and our sponsors) can really enjoy following the race. The only experienced rider we send is veteran Thibault Pinot who we expect in the mountain breaks (and maybe KoM hunting) in what is probably his last GT appearance.

Let's say I could've done without APP in your PT wildcard races Should indeed be a good fit for NL and Scandinavia, although Oliveira might be the more dangerous man in the Netherlands actually.
Generally speaking, the goals are pretty good for these two. Winning Britain won't be easy, but without the TT APP could actually have a shot. The missing TT might however also attract riders who weren't there in the past... Top 5 on the new ToA route could be doable, and the Top 5 in Lugano as well - although that's been a pretty unpredictable race in recent editions. Top 15 in the PCT standings might be possible, if in particular Ranaweera performs better than he did with Kraftwerk.
I think the Balkans goal should be the hardest to achieve - unsurprisingly, given the PTHC category. Masnada finished just outside the Top 10 last year, the competition there is just really strong. And given all the trainings, it won't get any easier this year... But with some smart riding, why not?
All the best for the upcoming season - I guess a lot will come down to riders underperforming in 2023 (Ranaweera, Daniel) doing much better this year, then it could really be a successful season for you

Goals make a lot of sense, agree Oliveira could be dangerous in the Netherlands and I think he might be the leader for the USPCC ahead of APP. That and Lugano are very doable. Britain may indeed have attracted riders who weren't there in the past and Balkans is the land of the hybrid monsters.
I like the heavy focus on wild cards to protect your Level 4 guys should you be relegated. A high end Lvl4 can really score in the CT.

We start our first PCT season and it will probably be a rather quiet start in two respects. Firstly we only race in three classics and a short stage race and secondly all of those races but one classic are flat ones – the terrain we’re worst prepared for. So we expect to find us right down at the bottom of the post-January rankings.

January was never expected to be a successful month with mostly flat races on our schedules – and it wasn’t successful indeed. Well, until the very last RD …
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 07-Jan | | Down Under Classic | - | - |
Hodeg didn’t participate in the sprint, Lapeira missed a fluke points result by 3 places. At least Belohvosciks was in the break, which sadly didn’t give any points either.
points: 0
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 19-Jan | | Badaling International | - | Top 10 |
APP did what he always does (and what we hoped for): he was always attentive and managed to stay with the front group to finish in the top 10 as 8th.
points: 24
Aurelien Paret-Peintre 24
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 26-Jan | 29-Jan | Tour of Guadeloupe | - | GC Top 25; stage Top 10s |
We came to Guadeloupe with low hopes, mostly on some U25 points from the breaks. Well, that didn’t work out as Lapeira only got 6th in the U25 classification on countback after none of our riders was in any break. At least Hodeg was consistent in the sprints with 8th, 10th, 11th and 8th. This resulted in a 17th place overall, which is quite okay regarding his place in the sprinter ranking of the race.
points: 11
Alvaro Hodeg 10
Paul Lapeira 1
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 31-Jan | | Great Ocean Road Classic | - | Win; Top 10 |
We came here with the hope to snatch a couple of points – and we managed to snatch a couple of points. It’s a big couple, to be frank, but man did we snatch it. Askey initiated the break of the day and was joined by Louvel, which was already what we hoped for the day in addition to a minor sprint result from Hodeg. But once we saw this race situation there was some hope we could actually get something out of the race, especially as there were some rouleur on the favorites list. And our two youngsters delivered big time with Louvel working late to keep the chasing peloton away and Askey finishing it off to take our first classics win ever – not only in our first ever PTHC race but also in a flat classic, probably the race type we’re least prepared for. It’s just been a great day for the team!
points: 209
Lewis Askey 170
Matis Louvel 37
Alvaro Hodeg 2
Askey winning the Great Ocean Road Classic after a great team effort.

January was the expected hard start to the season with a late surprise highlight, but February should see a general improvement to keep our chances of non-relegation up early in the season. We don’t have any flat (non-cobbled) races to ride, so the races should suit our riders far better this month – and there are quite some of them, so at least we’ll be busy. Also we’ll see a team first (again).

Wow, what a victory from Askey Should be a great boost in your survival battle! Now it's up to Maxime to surf on the positive vibe in the cobble classics.

Huge congrats! What a brilliant start to you with GORC. No clue how a rider like Askey can ever win race like that but I'm happy that it was a rider of yours. Certainly gives you a big head start to the relegation fight.

You don't even need good rouleurs to win flat classics anymore, congrats
See you in some of your wildcard races

January was surprisingly successful even without our leaders competing (apart from a single race by APP), but with Daniel starting his campaign and Ranaweera riding in Paris-Nice all of our leaders have now started their seasons. And with a combined 8 RDs (at least in scoring races) of those 3 in the first two months it was clear we couldn’t hope for another month like this – but we actually got it! In 16 RDs we accumulated over 300 points (without APP and Ranaweera even racing this month apart from WC races), so it’s been a really, really good month for us. Let’s hope we can keep up the pace in the next months!
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 01-Feb | 08-Feb | Volta a Portugal | - | stage win |
Our riders were fairly inactive in the first three stages, but after some motivational talk (i.e. complaining a lot) and another missed breakaway Hodeg did what he was signed for and got a good result in the sprint of stage 4. Even better, he actually won the stage! It was also our first ever win in a bunch sprint.
Hodeg winning the sprint in stage 4.
The squad seemed to have celebrated this surprise victory too hard as they decided to go undercover again for the next two road stages. They were never expected to shine in the following ITT, so all our hopes were on the final mountain stage. And there Pinot at least showed our colours in the break, though he couldn’t really compete in the KoM sprints. But as a result of the GC fight leading to big time gaps he finished 46th in the GC and thus was our only GC scorer.
points: | 38 | Alvaro Hodeg | 32 | Thibault Pinot | 6 |
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 04-Feb | | Omloop Het Nieuwsblad | - | Top 5 |
It’s been Maxime Daniels first cobbles race as our captain and he lived up to our expectations after an attentive race in which he finished 4th. Louvel, Mestric and Pithie added some depth points after working to keep their captain in competition.
points: | 85 | Maxime Daniel | 70 | Matis Louvel | 5 | Matija Mestric | 5 | Laurence Pithie | 5 |
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 10-Feb | | Le Samyn | - | Win |
After the already very good start to the cobbles season Maxime Daniel even improved his result in his second race with the team. After Louvel followed the long range attacks by the other favourites which ultimately lead to nothing our French veteran used the saved energy to win the sprint from a reduced group and win our first ever cobbled classic! And though there’s clearly not much room for him to improve this season the depth scoring actually could. But as long as we win races we don’t really mind if our domestiques don’t score as well.
Daniel winning the first cobbled classic in the team’s history.
points: | 140 | Maxime Daniel | 140 |
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 13-Feb | 20-Feb | Paris - Nice | - | - |
We had a slow start to our first wildcard race this season (and our first ever PT race) as the race started with a prologue and we don’t have any specialist for this kind of stage. Belohvosciks made it into the break in stages 2 and 3 and gathered some points there. Stages 4 and 5 saw no one in the break but Ranaweera losing more than 2 minutes due to bad positioning. He tried to get something out of this loss by breaking away in stage 6, but had to give up this effort after not getting a real gap. He lost 4 more minutes in the finale of the stage, getting him into a better position for another breakaway attempt in stage 7 – if he only tried … The final TTT was never expected to be a highlight for us and it wasn’t. So the race was a disappointment in the end, not because Ranaweera only finished 40th in the GC, but because we weren’t active enough in the breaks.
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 26-Feb | | Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne | - | Top 3 |
We had some hopes for another good result here after Daniel’s fantastic start into the cobbles season. So we were pleased with our race tactics when Costiou was in the first break of the day and Dunne in the second one established after the first attempt was shut down. Those attempts clearly never had a real chance in a cobbled classic, but it spared their teammates from working in the chase, so Pithie was able to follow one of the late attacks of the favourites while Mestric and Louvel could stay with Daniel. And this proved to be the right tactics as everything came down to a sprint of a reduced group where Daniel could make use of his rested legs to get us another classics podium as 3rd. And once again his three main domestiques got some depth score for themselves by finishing 16th, 18th and 20th.
points: | 61 | Maxime Daniel | 46 | Matis Louvel | 7 | Matija Mestric | 5 | Laurence Pithie | 3 |
Start | End | Race | team goal | results | 28-Feb | | Coppa Placci | - | Top 10 |
After we had no real leader for the C2 cobbles races (Mestric was only signed after the C2 race selection) we chose to head to hilly C2 races instead as Paulus and Le Gac were both not only eligible but also decent enough puncheurs in their own right. We didn’t thought the competition in CT would be so fierce this season, so our expectations were low. But Paulus was very attentive and thus able to stay with the favourites until the final sprint where he finished in a strong 6th place and made the race a success for us while Le Gac added another point with a 25th place.
points: | 20 | Daniel Paulus | 19 | Olivier Le Gac | 1 |
