Nice +5 day for Gesink, this game is funny. At least we will have an interesting battle going on, congrats Alex. Gesink will be slaughtered in mountains though...

I really doubt that he had a +5 day. More like a +1/2 day and Pluchkin a -2/3 or so day.

They have ONE point difference in TT, this had to be like +4/5 on one side and -2/-3 on the other...

I disagree...

PCM have never been completely unrandom - Luckily. Two riders with exactly the same TT stats are rarely coming home in s.t. on a 50+ km TT.

If you look at the past (previous versions) and take Herbiers as an example then you'll see:

Jerome Coppel 83 win
Mikhail Ignatiev 81 2 seconds down
Taylor Phinney 83 4 seconds down

Fabian Cancellara 82 win
Jerome Coppel 83 21 seconds down
Michael Rogers 82 53 seconds down

Michael Rogers 82 win
David Zabriskie 81 16 seconds down
Jerome Coppel 82 41 seconds down
Taylor Phinney 82 1'42 down
Fabian Cancellara 82 1'52 down

I did not take last season as example, as you know what happened, and how the engine work/worked.

So definately Pluchkin had a bad daily form, otherwise he won't end up behind riders like Lecuisinier with 77 who ended up about where he should (only a few riders ahead - Campenaerts, Meier and Haig had good/great daily form).

Gesink didn't do all that great to be honest. He was already a top 3 daily favorite and he didn't shatter Durbridges time in comparisson to what have happened previously in Chrono des Herbiers. He had a better daily form than Durbridge - Sure. But you make it sound like he must have certainly had +5 while Pluchkin had -3 or something. And I really doubt that was the case.

A TT deficit of 3 in total could easily make that 2 minute difference. A deficit of 8+1 like you suggest would see Pluchkin end up somewhere between 3½ and 4 minutes behind - With riders such as Kolesnikov, Vassdål, van Baarle, Ladagnous,

Lecuisinier doing well here, but seriously fuck this crash ratio! Koretzky my big chance for a stage win in this race crash and being clearly injured aswell - Some already say goodbye to GC hopes due to crashes and splits caused by chaos from crashes.

Vasyliv already lost 11 minutes and Campero 12. They are both domestiques, but should be capable of being top 10 of the U25 competition. They better climb very well!

Atleast we bagged some points now, and Lecuisinier seems to be alert.

Thats quite a gap Gesink have created so early!

Will be interesting to follow, good luck alex! Wink

Morton avoiding drama. Still, he had a pretty bad sprint considering his position didn't look too bad in the final kms.

Good thing Guldhammer stayed safe through that stage, can't ask for more. A pity our ambitions for the teams classification took a serious hit as he was the only rider in the front group. Guess we can forget about that one now, unless we decide it's a good thing to join the breakaways.

Thank you for another very informative report, roturn. And congratulations to the wildcard winner. That's definitely one way to tell they deserve a place here.

Gesink should make better use of this hilly stages if he really wants to have a shot at winning the race. Third would have been better (in the picture it actually looks like he has third Pfft) as it would have given him a solo lead in the points classification.

The rest of the team performing as well and grabbing the team rankings lead even though we were 5 minutes down yesterday. I guess, if I were to be picky, I'd rather have had Brambilla in the first group than Castroviejo.

Great reports and an amazing pace on them as well!

Hansen is really underpowered for breakaways at this level of racing, but I'm really happy he's going out there and giving it his best!

Yeah. Loosing 8 seconds to the main rival in a hilly stage is definately not the way to go, if he wants to win the race. He will need those 2 minutes for the mountains, so losing a bit here and there in hilly sprints to Pluchkin is definately unnecessary Smile

I meant more like attacking and getting a gap rather than coming into the same group. I guess the next hilly stage should see more attacks than this one.

Time to put those extra 6 (5 to Tenorio) hills points to work.

Yeah I know. I was just pointing out, that it was the worst possible outcome on a hilly stage to actually allow Pluchkin to take bonus seconds.

As long as you allow Lecuisinier to join the attack I'm fine with leaving Tenorio and Pluchkin behind Smile

Not great by Ginnani; this was probably a semi-mountain stage instead of one for the puncheurs. Hope some of the others hilly stages suit him better.

Congrats to Coldeportes!

Thanks for preview and reporting so far, roturn!

Stage 1&2: OKish performance from Lay, I can´t expect more than taking bottom TOP10 place in sprints here and there. No crashes are nice, too.

Stage 3: Being 3* favourite and finish almost 2 minutes behind the same rated rider is sick. Gesink was really lucky, while other GC contenders weren´t.

Stage 4: With two 1cat climbs more mountanious than hilly one, no surprise pure puncheurs had no chance against climbers. Great win for PCT team here! Keinath on the ground again, luckily this time without any consequences. Tenorio jumped onto 2nd place overall, hopefully he is well prepared for fight for podium.

Thanks roturn, enjoying else reports.

Van den Broeck moving into ninth is great. Can we just finish the race now?

I can't complain too much with TVG taking 12th when I got three guys in the top 11 on Stage 3. Still shaking my head and wondering how Christian Meier took fifth.

Great podium for Aleksandr in 4th stage, gaining few bonus seconds on Gesink in a hilly stage is more than we can hope for and can prove crucial for later outcome. Main goal is still holding up with him on hills and strike on steeper terrain.

Congrats Coldeportes, but Urán...ouch.

Thanks for the report!
I'll be back

That's just amazing! Grin Admittedly Holst Enger was once again lucky with the train he picked and thus the likes of Cavendish and Guarnieri were gone, but nevertheless he was up against some serious competition. He has really stepped it up in the sprints this season, delivering great results when avoiding most of the 84/83 sprinters.

Thank you for another report, roturn. Is it the plan to continue with two reports each day as well?

It`s 1-2 a day.
Always depends when I think about posting in the morning and if I am at home in the evening.
