Maybe that's the way to fix cycling after all. Turn it into a circus and let the riders face off against elephants and clowns.

Voeckler actually does that for years, at least with his face.

Add in lions, a velodrome and a shitty band, and you've got a classic Six Day Race.

Can't see what's the problem with a prologue like this, except that it's an awesome idea. Stop complaining about things you don't need to complain about, Mr Martin. |

Yeah. They really need to make more Tony Martin stages, instead of just making an interesting race
While they're at it, might as well make a Cancellara stage, too, and a Tom Boonen stage and a stage for all those brave men who never complain, just to keep them happy. |

It surely is the race organizations fault and not his own he lost against a CX rider a few days ago.

Tony Martin has somewhat of a point - I can't believe Dauphine has skipped the flat ITT (not even a prologue) for the second time in a row. Its extremely unbalanced and something that every stage race now seems to abandon which is kinda sad.
When that's said, I have hyped this prologue for a week now and it delivered. Bertie with his godlike mountain ITT skills was once again nice to watch. The only thing which was disappointing was that 50% of the best riders already had been out on the route - IMO, for the show of it, it shouldn't be allowed to switch positions. Somewhat anti climactic. |

Could perhaps have a flat TT laiter. But that doesn't change the fact that this prologue was great. If you remember the 2010 version(first that came to mind) could we see that the TTs decidet the entire race and it had a similar TT-amount to the tour, which is ridiculous. So I'd rather have it like this and have an open race.
Ideally, I agree, one somewhat flat TT/proulogue is optimal for the majority of the one week stage races.

Agreed on both points; it really ought to have some sort of decent length time-trial somewhere and to not have one two years in a row is just silly. Maybe they're wary of the catastrophe that was the 2012 Dauphiné, where we had 60km of flat ITT balanced by... one mountain stage that wasn't even a MTF and if Quintana hadn't won that stage that would have been my vote for the worst race in the history of cycling.
But this prologue was pretty cool and it was great to see (well...) the Tour contenders giving it everything on a short but cruel ramp. If we're talking innovation, how about a prologue like this and then a biathlon-style pursuit where the riders set off at the intervals they finished in the prologue on an ITT-length stage and the first one across the line wins. Could even incorporate it somewhere in a longer stage race if you take the times just from the prologue rather than the GC.

After 3.9 km, can we already say that Contador, Porte or Froome wins + Aru and Pinot are out of play for the victory. |

Looks like Froome is not on top form yet
But still, another great win by Contador
Also Porte and Bardet surprised me.Didn't think Porte would beat Froome today.
Also lol to Tony Martin, just whining |

Said people also last year. But he won in the end. Froome is still big favorit.
Hope Contador and Porte can give him battle, since it is boring when he destroys all on one stage and then after run victory home on plus control. |
