Well then, our first tied vote. The tiebreaker? My vote.
I'm going to go with Option #3: Professional Attire. As you will see below maybe it won't be as expense as we once thought. Before I start to contact professional designers, let's try to save a little bit on that $3,000 price tag.
We Got Any Quality Designers in the House?
We'll save 20% ($600) if a jersey maker takes up the request to make our inaugural Island Runners kit to my satisfactory within the next 48 hours.
Another 10% off ($300) if they also include a Jamaican NC jersey for Samuels.
And tack on 5% more ($150) for including a mini jersey and proper logos, plus another 5% ($150) for accessories (socks, bottles, shoes and gloves).
Interested in the challenge? Leave a comment below letting me know and I'll forward you more specific details to your PM.
Multiple designers can take up this challenge, if more than one specific item (jersey, NC jersey, logos or accssories) is approved by me then the public will vote for their favourites. Designers are more than welcomed to collaborate together.
If there is no luck here, I'll be forced to call around myself and pay full price.
Note: Professional Attire was chosen, so only top quality work will be approved.

I'm sure one of our great designers will love the challenge. White shoes please.

Thinking of ways to attract bigger sponsors I think making a small one-time investment in ensuring a few minutes on the live local Jamaican radio, explaining the team's setup, goals and ambitions could attract a few larger companies on Jamaica, and maybe even from places were groups of emigrated Jamaicans live. The rewards I guess we'll get from this are far greater than the needed investment, and if not, it's only a small investment, would be worth the risk.

Think bigger fjhoekie: On Tobago, you can actually buy TV-time for whatever purpose you feel like. Even rambling about cats for 10 minutes.

Local Radio/Television Spot!
I always like hearing from the members, this time from fjhoekie and Waghlon.

For $300 I can get an interview spot with Jamaica's top sports radio station, KLAS 89.9 FM. Or, for $500, we could get on local CVM Television for a brief segment.
First to reach five votes is what I'll do.
Note: Only founding members votes will be counted.

Once we get our jersey sorted we should offer the NC out to companies to see if anybody wants him in their commercials, which would advertise our team and potentially gain us a new sponsor in the process.

I did some research and i did not found any local bike companies.
However i found 2from brasil, which is not that far away.
They're called 'calio' and 'sundown'.
Otherwise i think we should look for a bike sponsor in The USA, maybe you have some Connections there |

Can confirm. Also agree with Sammy on NC marketability!

Publicity never hurts, even if it comes with a cost. The founding members approved for myself to appear on a local sports talk show on KLAS 89.9 FM for $300.
Hopefully this will raise the awareness of the team. Here is how it went.
Host: On now we have Mresuperstar, founder of a new Jamaican cycling project called Island Runners. Welcome to the show.
Mre: Thanks for having me.
Host: I'm sure most of the listeners can tell by your voice you aren't Jamaican, how difficult was it been adapting to the culture as an American?
Mre: It was a struggle at first certainly, but I have found my bearings and I really enjoy the lifestyle here. People are friendly and it's easy to go to work everyday when you can look out the window and see the ocean.
Host: Yes it is. How about you let everyone know what this cycling program is all about because even when we got your request to be on the show I had never even heard about it before.
Mre: Absolutely. Island Runners is a brand new, community supported cycling program based out of Kingston. Currently, I'm running the whole operation in a small office space, but we have 17 founding members from across the globe investing in the project.
For the past couple of weeks, with the founder's donations, I've been traveling around the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico trying to find the best cycling talent and we will have a full staff of 18 cyclists here shortly.
Host: Sounds like you have been quite busy. Honestly, what is your expectations for what you are doing?
Mre: Success. Simple as that. I'm confident I found a great group of riders that are willing to put forth the effort to be successful. What that success is yet, I'm not quite sure. The journey is surely going to be worth it though.
Host: When scouting, what do you look for?
Mre: Leadership, personality and, well most important, how well can they ride a bike. It's easy to spot the guys that aren't good enough and it's easy to spot the ones you know could do something special in the future. It's the ones in the middle you have to take risks on.
Host: OK, with that said, which riders will be on this team who have that aforementioned noticeable potential?
Mre: That's a tough question. We won't really know until we get the whole group together and start training as a team, but after scouting everyone initially, there are a couple cyclists I got my eye on.
Personally, I really like have national champion Oneil Samuels on board to mentor the young riders, such as 14 year old countryman Blake Ronda who caught my eye the moment I saw him.
Tajo Sylvester, another 14 year old from the British Virgin Islands, had MLS teams trying to sign him for their academies and is just a natural born athlete.
And we really have a lot of fast men. Usain Bolt would be proud. If you like speed then watch out for Zac Evelyn, Jaden Le Juez and Agwe Ash. They are still fairly young and rather reckless, but if we can hone in their skills... I see a crazy good sprint train.
Host: Very nice and thanks for the information. Sadly that's all the time we have. Thanks for stopping by Mresuperstar, and we hope to see you back again soon.
Mre: I hope so as well, thank you.

Quashie Voted In! Adding to the Staff!
Why did Ajay Quashie cross the ocean? To arrive at his new home away from home. The jokester from St. Vincent earned the final roster spot.
All contracted cyclists are now making their way to Jamaica for routine physicals, getting their mugshots taken and mainly have one big meet and greet.
No bikes or equipment yet, so we can't train. I'm still working on that.
However, we should probably hire that team doctor and photographer now.
After asking around the island, all the medical professionals held a steady rate ($125 per month). So, I just went ahead and hired a local young grad, Vince Hesai. He's seems fairly smart fresh out of University of Technology in Jamaica.
As for the photographer, we have some options. Take a look and decide.
Mresuperstar | Cost: None
I'll grab my Android and use it to the best of my abilities. However, I don't have time to take a lot of pictures. Race reports will only feature one photo.
Jackson Reeve | Cost: $25 per Month
A local. Not much more to say. Takes standard to below average photos, but will make sure the race reports always have enough pictures to show the action.
Sarah Dominguez | Cost: $25 per Month
Attractive tourist that saw our flyer. She is a recent grad from Miami University and quite popular on Instagram. She is effective being behind the camera as much as she is in front of it. Although, could "distract" some of our cyclists.
The photographer with the most votes in the next 12 hours will be hired.
Also, I still haven't received any interest for a jersey designer, spread the word.
Note: All members of the community can vote.
Thanks = Mresuperstar
Zarbel'd = Reeve
Good Idea = Dominguez

I think that interview should catch the attention of some interested sponsors. We could do with all the help we can get.
Found an interesting story about the Whitney-Lazarus Jamaica Cycle Company. Were active a hundred years ago in Jamaica, making bicycles, even had a patent, but went out of existence suddenly. Can we maybe look for their lineage and see if we can convince them to get started again?

Good morning everyone, things are starting to get done and I can't wait to have the team get together today and have everyone meet for the first time.
Our newly hired photographer, Sarah Dominguez, will be in attendance to capture all the action and hopefully smiling faces. All of Sarah's updates will be posted with that purple/pinkish color heading.
Likewise, our team doctor, Vince Hesai, will post cover all medical related posts in red coloring. And all my owner updates will remain in standard black.
Now also seems like a good opportunity to update the budget.
| Revenue | Expenses | Previous Amount | $7,250 | | Local Sponsors | $180 | | Jersey | | $3,000 | Local Radio | | $300 | Team Doctor | | $750 | Photographer | | $150 |
Total Remaining: $3,230
The money is depleting quite rapidly, but we still have the chance to save a bunch of money with Jakstar22 and the_hoyle taking up the jersey challenge.
Future expenses include obtaining a Jamaican cycling license (~$2,500), equipment, a team writer and maybe another trainer.
There is also a little bit of concern about having enough money to travel to race events. There aren't high-level races around where we are stationed.
On the flip side, the radio spot was quite effective. I have a few more local minor sponsorships to share and the search for a main sponsor is intensifying.
Not a lot of news of the equipment front just yet, but I appreciate the tips.
I'll keep you updated throughout the afternoon.

Hey everybody, Sarah here, thanks so much for this opportunity. I just got back from the meet and greet and the team was super friendly and nice. I had a blast getting to know everyone and taking their pictures.
Also, Vince made quick work of doing the physicals and I'm happy to report everyone is currently healthy and anxious to get going.
You know a little bit about there history, but now put a face with a name.
Mresuperstar was also thoughtful enough to get custom hats for the occasion.
They are plain and simple, but having any merchandise is quite a neat feeling. We are also allowing the public to buy the white baseball caps as well!
We need to sell at least five to cover the overhead costs, but for every hat sold over five we will make $15. To purchase a hat leave a Thumbs Up on this post.

Oh yeah I'll buy a hat!
Maybe we can get some other merchandise up as well.
Or other ways of making money and getting our name out there. I'm thinking auctioning off a meet&greet with the squad! |
