If he just rides his own pace then he should pass a bunch of riders who are currently in the front group

I think Astana are riding for Landa right now, to put him back in podium reach? For Aru: they just have to hope that he climbs faster than Contador when he attacks.
If Astana sends a rider upfront, they effectively undoing their work because Contador probably won't bother to lead.
