STAGE 2 | PALMERSTON NORTH - APITI - PALMERSTON NORTH | 144 KM
Despite the rainy circumstances, 4 riders are willing to battle for the KoM jersey, or even more... They are:
Zuazubiskar | Euskadi
Bertling | Team Quantec - Indeland
Sehested | Team Tre-For - Blue Water
Bosman | Rabobank Development Team
Bertling wins the only intermediate sprint. Afterwards, the Kom jersey is heavily battled for:
KOM 1 Bertling
KOM 2 Bertling
KOM 3 Sehested
KOM 4 Bertling
The whole team survives the last climb of the race, Valley Road. Gap is 2'10", 34 KM to go. The breakaway is caught with only 10 KM left.
Though with the red kite within sight, Marco is the only one who seems to be able to maintain his position at the front, holding Rasmussen's wheel.
Suddenly, he's forced to leave his ideal position due to a bad gear change. Luckily, his chain doesn't slip of and Marco can still play out his sprint.
Marco gets a bit locked in but still finishes in 7th. Traksel | An Post-Chainreaction beats Rasmussen for the win, but the Dane does extend his lead in the GC.

For us, everything but the finish went fine. It's a pity Marco couldn't stay with Rasmussen as he would certainly have been close to a victory. Let's all have a good rest and prepare for the next stage.

STAGE 3 | PALMERSTON NORTH – KIMBOLTON – PALMERSTON NORTH | 163 KM
Today’s stage once again takes us from Palmerston North via a detour back to the starting location. Just like yesterday, it’s a rainy day here at the North Island. Four riders don’t mind the rainy conditions and get in the breakaway:
Teunissen Rabobank Development Team
Janiaczyk Bank BGZ
Sybrandy Team IG
Nakane Vini Fantini – Nippo
On the way, the first thing that is battled for is the KoM jersey, with the following result:
KOM 1 Sybrandy
KOM 2 Sybrandy
KOM 3 Nakane
On top of the last climb, the breakaway still has a 3’44” gap.
Janiaczyk wins the intermediate sprint, which earns him a bonus of 6”. The gap is closed, but with 24 KM to go, we lose Maxim due to a crash. Luckily, he doesn’t pick up any injuries. He will never be able to catch up with the back of the bunch again though.
Under the red kite, Marco just fought his way back to the wheel of Enrico Rossi, which seems a promising position. But this effort has cost him too much energy to sprint full-speed.
It’s Jonas Aaen Jørgensen | Riwal who takes the win in front of Justin Jules | La Pomme. Rasmussen comes in 3rd.

Marco could have been closer but a top 10 finish is not that bad. Let’s have good rest tonight and fight back tomorrow.

STAGE 4 | PALMERSTON NORTH| 112 KM
Today is a shorter stage. The breakaway consists of the following 6 riders:
| Barry | | Node4 Giordana | | Bagües | | Euskadi | | Nielsen | | Tre-For | | Hayakawa | | Vini Fantini - Nippo | | Benoit | | Quantec - Indeland | | Bucháček | | Bauknecht - Author |
Hayakawa wins the frist KoM sprint…,
… Barry wins a very close intermediate sprint…
… and on the last climb, Nielsen has distanced the rest to take the KoM points.
Marco manages to grab the wheel of Gavazzi | Amore & Vita. Finally a top 5 finish?
But in his current form, the Austrian still just lacks that little bit of power. Siskevius | La Pomme wins in front of Traksel | An Post – Chainreaction, who moves closer to Rasmussen in the GC.

Though a top 5 result in the last stage would give us a good feeling when leaving New Zealand

STAGE 5 | PALMERSTON NORTH CIRCUIT | 110 KM
Although there are 11 riders in today's BOTD, it never seems like they'll stand a chance against the bunch. All eleven of them are reeledi in with 15 KM to go.
Marco once again manages to approach the fnish in a promising position...
... but the advantage of the La Pomme duo was too big as Siskevicius easily wins. Traksel finishes 2nd and grabs both the GC win the points classification.
Marco earns the team it's first podium finishing 3rd and even brings the white jersey back home!
