Harrisburg, PA -- A Rosado homerun could not catch Altoona Wednesday afternoon as a 4-2 win allowed Altoona to get out the brooms. Harrisburg fell to 3-11 on the year, while Altoona is 12-2.
Lopez gave Altoona a 1-0 lead in the 3rd after Connelly hit a sacrifice fly. O'Malley and Aquino both had doubles in the 5th to give Altoona a 2-0 lead.
Can anyone stop these guys?
Altoona added 2 more runs in the 6th to make it 4-0. Gonzalez singled and Balladres and doubled. Later in the inning, O'Malley singled allowing it to become 4-0.
Can Altoona keep the lead?
In the bottom of the 8th, Harrisburg got the bats going. It seems as if Harrisburg did not have a problem all series getting hits on the Altoona relievers, but they could not hit off of the starters. Rosado smashed a homerun to make it 1-4. Beckham doubled allowing a Nunez single to score him. Thankfully for Altoona a few strikeouts ended the inning. Closer B. Pena came in for the save. Harrisburg was able to get a double and get the tying run to the plate with 2 outs, but he struck out to end the game.
Back to Altoona they go
Its a franchise best start for Altoona, 12-2. It will be interesting to see where they are ranked in the new power rankings later today. The game was played at 1:00 in 70 degree weather, the warmest of the year. Altoona will go home to play Richmond again after taking 3 of 4 from them earlier this week. Harrisburg will have a day off tomorrow before playing 2 with Reading.

Altoona Curve Summary
Altoona has recently overtaken a commanding lead in the Western Division as they now hold a 5 game lead in the division. It is ultimately unfair if you look at the separation of the divisions. The Eastern division is 14 games better than the Western, the most lopsided in Eastern League history. Every team in the east is .500 or better and only 2 teams are in the West.
Altoona's only 4 opponents in April are the 4 worst in the league, so the May schedule can't get any better for them. Altoona is now in the middle of the league in runs scored total, and they remain first outright in runs allowed. The pitching for Altoona has been downright unfair all year, their starters have yet to lose. Tanaka & Lopez lead the team in Batting Average, but have not played enough games to make the league leaders board.
The Curve will now play the same 4 teams they just went 12-2 against, meaning they are currently on pace for a 24-4 start, which would be a record.

Altoona, PA -- It's a rare occasion when the Curve lose this season, and the 12,087 in attendance tonight witnessed just that. Richmond won only its 4th game this year, 2 of which are against Altoona, 3-1. A 9th inning rally by Altoona fell just short. The teams play 3 more starting tomorrow.
Curve starting pitcher
It was 45 degrees an pouring rain for the contest. The Curve have yet to play a home game with clear skies this year. The game could not have been more boring the first 6 innings, as both teams combined for 8 hits, and only 1 baserunner got as far as third base.
Pitchers battle tonight
Rincon doubled to left to begin the 7th, and Tucker kept the momentum going with another to left, scoring Rincon. Luckily Altoona registered 3 quick outs afterwards. Cabrera doubled for Altoona in the 7th, but O'Malley and Chacin could not assist him, and he was stranded.
Richmond added more in the 8th when Bautista tripled to left to kick off the inning. Nunez then came into pitch. Kensing pinch hit for Squirrel's pitcher Calderon, and he singled to center scoring a run. 2 Outs by Altoona was not enough to end the scoring, as Rincon got a hold of another to score Kensing. After a quick top of the 9th, Altoona needed 3 runs to stay in the game. Gonzalez & McDonough started the inning with singles to right field. McGuiness flied out deep enough to send Gonzalez to third. With 1 out there were runners at the corners. Cabrera hit a weak infield dribbler that was not enough for a double play, but they got 1 out. It was 1-3 with 2 outs and a runner on second. Balladres came in to pinch hit for Curve pitcher Nunez. Hoping to get a strong hit, he flied out to right field to end the game.
Curve... Lose?
Altoona still outhit Richmond, so they remain 15-0 when it comes to the hitting battle. A 12-3 record still gives them a 4 game lead in the division, and a 2 game lead overall over surging defending champs Trenton. Richmond looks to give Altoona their first back to back losing streak of the year tomorrow at 7:00.

Altoona, PA -- For the first time all year, Altoona has lost 2 in a row. Closer Brad Pena allowed 2 runs in the top of the 13th to seal the deal for Richmond. Both teams had 8 hits in the game, but Altoona looked very sloppy at the plate. The teams play 1 more this weekend.
Curve starting pitcher
The fans were treated to a stellar game, however, it was quite boring for the first 3 hours. No runs in the 9 innings of regular play.
Fans stuck around though!
Altoona had a chance to win in the bottom of the 11th as they had runners on second and first with 1 out. McDonough & McGuiness both lined out though.
Balladres at second.
Curve pitcher Brad Pena came in to pitch the 13th. Castilla singled to begin the inning. Varela attempted to bunt him to second, but ended up fouling it on strike 3 for the out. Quiroz lined for a single next. Underwood doubled to score the first run, and Bautista sacrificed in the other. Asuncion struck out next to end the frame. Altoona had one last chance, but 3 flyouts ended the game.
Altoona not familiar with losing
The win for Richmond secures a win for the series at least 2-1. Altoona will play 1 more with Richmond tomorrow, and then they will be given a much needed day off Sunday. Altoona still has a 1 game overall lead in the league, and a 3 game lead in the division.

Altoona, PA -- It was looking dim for Altoona Saturday night as they team looked like they just wanted to finish this game and get that day off. Well, something clicked in that dugout, and a 5 run 7th inning powered Altoona to a 5-1 victory. Tanaka was the hero with a bases loaded triple to score 3. Harrisburg comes to town starting Monday.
Starting lineup
Both pitchers sat down the first opposing 6 batters tonight, leaving an empty box score after 2 innings. In the 3rd, Richmond got a hit thanks to an Altoona error in the outfield. Medrano then hit a grounder to score the un-earned run.
Alot of outs early.
Altoona starting pitcher Scott Baker was effectively getting outs, but not support. In the 5th inning he was already feeling tired, and after allowing 2 more hits, it was time for him to come out.
The 7th inning seemed like any other inning when it started. Aquino flied out to start the inning. Gonzalez was able to reach first next after opponent Bautista could not make the out in time. Cabrera then reached first on a throwing error. He was attempting to bunt, and when he got the bunt down, the pitcher overthrew the second baseman. Pitcher Mickey Storey, who picked up his first win to go 1-1, then lined to center for a huge single. Bases loaded with 1 out. Tanaka sent one flying to right center almost a grandslam. 3 Runs in, and just like that, Altoona is up.
Player of the Game after that one!
Pitcher Mickey Storey stayed in the game for the last 2 innings, and a double play along with 2 strike outs helped secure the win for Altoona.
Altoona will spend Sunday at home with families resting for the first time in almost a month. Harrisburg will come into town next for a 4 game series. Altoona is 3-0 against Harrisburg this season, who is 4-12 and the worst team in the Eastern League.

Altoona, PA -- After a strong start from Harrisburg, Altoona rallied in the middle of the game and came back from an 0-2 deficit to win 4-2. For the first time all year, Altoona was outhit. Lon Jaschek picked up his 3rd win on the mound, and Chris Nelson picked up his 2nd Home-run of the season. The teams will play 3 more games starting tomorrow afternoon.
Harrisburg scored 2 right off the bat as Tran, the second batter, grounded for a single. Ramirez and Beckham then singled and doubled respectively, giving a 2-0 lead to the visiting harriers.
Finally ending the inning
Altoona and Harrisburg were both able to get hits in the beginning, but Altoona was leaving men on base. Lon Jaschek, pitcher for the Curve, settled down and got stronger as the game went on. Harrisburg went for all kinds of tricks to pull away such as bunting randomly.
Bunt attempt
Curve are getting hits, but can't score
In the 4th inning, Balladres kicked things off by doubling to center. The hit was very close to being a homerun. On the next pitch, there was no doubt about it, Chris Nelson sent it flying over the left field wall almost out of the grandstands, his second of the year.
Finally, another Curve HR
In the 5th Rodriguez joined the hit parade with a triple that brought in Jeff Chacin who had just doubled to center. An inning later the 4th run was added on as Tanaka singled and was brought around by multiple batters.
Harrisburg in trouble late
Instead of bringing in closer Brad Pena in the 9th, Nunez stayed in to retire the side with 2 strikeouts and a groundout to end the game.
14th Win!
Chris Nelson had 3 hits and 4 at bats on the day to bring his yearly average back up. Altoona still holds the overall league lead by a game, and the division lead by a stunning 5 games. The Curve play 2 afternoon games the next two days as they are 4-0 in day games this year.

Altoona, PA -- A relatively solid performance was enough for Altoona to defeat Harrisburg yet again, 5-2. Altoona was outhit again by 1, but the excellent fielding effort came through for them. Altoona and Harrisburg will play again tomorrow at 1:00.
Chacin doubled in the bottom of the first for Altoona before a triple by Lopez brought him in, and a Balladres sacrifice brought him in.
Chacin broke his bat on the first swing
Tanaka and O'Malley had strong hits in the third inning to put another run on the board, making it 3-0.
Tanaka hitting good lately
Gilley got Harrisburg in the multi-hit column after a double in the 5th. Ramirez hit a homerun deep to center to put Harrisburg back in the game, 2-3. Just an inning later in the 6th, Altoona sealed the deal with 2 more runs, both on sacrifice squeeze bunts, one of which actually turned into a hit after McGuinness outran the throw. Pitcher Joe Blanton did the same thing next but was thrown out.
The two teams will clash 2 more times, with Harrisburg still looking for their first win against Altoona this year. Altoona has a significant margin when it comes to strength of schedule, as their opponents in April have the lowest combined average on record.

Altoona, PA -- It seems as if every night Harrisburg gets closer and closer to knocking off Altoona. Tonight was no different, but extra innings proved to be to much for Harrisburg, as the Curve win yet another game, 6-4. The teams played in heavy rain, and they will wrap up the series tomorrow evening.
You wouldn't believe it was only 1:00 PM
A McDonough fielding error in the 2nd kicked off the scoring as Thompson scored after getting on base and being hit in by a Rosado grounder. Just 1 inning later Harrisburg took a 2-0 lead after Ramirez homered for the second day in a row.
Cabrera got Altoona on the board in the 3rd after he lined to left for a single. Rodriguez hit him in. Altoona hit a season tying best 17 hits tonight.
Chacin & O'Malley had good outings
Strong pitching efforts came for the next few innings, and both starters were eventually replaced in the 7th inning, when the scoring started again. It was McDonough lining for a single and being brought around by the likes of Aquino, Cabrera and Storey. The Curve left the bases loaded to end the inning.
McDonough after his hit
Mickey Storey put in a strong effort for Altoona as relief pitcher, but gave up 1 run in the 8th and then a run in the 9th to send it to extras. Nunez tripled to center and was hit in by a Gilley sacrifice to make it 3-2 Harrisburg in the 8th.
Balladres and O'Malley reached base in the 8th for Altoona. McDonough powered a triple to bring in 2 runs. Curve up 4-3 with just 1 inning left. Thompson tripled with just 1 out, and Miranda doubled to tie it up. The regular 9 frames end at 4-4. Lingo comes in to pitch for Harrisburg, and he looks lost from the start.
Altoona racked up 6 hits in the 3 extra innings, including Aquino, Cabrera, and Chacin's singles in the 11th to win it for Altoona.
Will Altoona's success be stopped anytime soon? They are putting up record numbers when it comes to pitching, ranking first in almost every category in the minor leagues. Harrisburg will look to defeat Altoona for the first time tomorrow evening.
