Verbruggen's fairwell letter? (in Italian but easilly translated with the power of Google translate) https://www.tuttobiciweb.it/index.php?...8&tp=n
Particularly like the (translated) line "I've never been afraid to defend my name and my reputation in court : I have never lost a case . "Echoes of Armstrong's "I've never tested positive"... |

Alex Rasmussen have signed with Riwal Cycling Team and will focus on the track towards Rio 2016.
A good decision for all I think.
Edit: Also Jonas Aaen Jørgensen from Saxo

Interesting Cyclingnews article on new anti-doping developments based on cancer research:
https://www.cyclin...ect-doping
Two main points stand out:
-EPO affects the human body on a cellular level and this change can appearantly be traced back for up to 5 (!) years in genetic memory.
-EPO and HGH are said to be part of cancer treatments but also seem to increase the growth of tumors, making it indeed very likely that Lance's testicular cancer was a result of all his EPO and doping use:
even a tiny drop of EPO can boost the size of a tumor cell culture by "1,800 in just five days when normally, without EPO, it would double in size at most over the same period."
Dr. Belda also outlined the dangers of some these products when it comes to a user's long-term health. "It can be affirmed that doping substances like these are substances that can be used experimentally in a laboratory to produce cancers and cardiovascular illnesses. They are substances that help to create cancer.

Horner's set a new standard for being good at age though.
It's possible to remain fairly good, albeit in a different way, the body loses muscular explosiveness with age, but others qualities (endurance) develop.
Interesting study about EPO, and I read another one about steroids and testosterone this week, that stated there are months or years long effects after a take of those products.
2 years bans were definitely too short in that regard, 4 years should help. |

Lol.
Canada is spending nearly 1mil on a telephone tipline where people can anonymously call in and report anyone that is suspected of doping.
Im pretty confident this is due to recent events with Hesjedal, but what an absolute waste of money.

Some news regarding the races themselves:
UCI forbid riding on Segregated cycle facilities or pedestrian zones starting 2014 season.
This is good. Always dangerous to see riders taking shortcuts on the sidewalk when a fan can always be around the corner. |

How in Gods name is that supposed to do anything? Do they believe that random people in Canada have complete insight into the private lives of top cyclists?
"Chris, I trust no one knows about this?"
"Of course not! No one knows anything!"
"Good, good..."
"Well, there's this one guy in Halifax, but he shouldn't be a problem"
*que evil laugh*
*Cut to bearded pipe-smoking guy in Halifax looking dramaticly into the camera*
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"

I can't deny I'm going to miss all the manoeuvring, bunny hopping on to pavements etc in the spring classics in a desperate (often fruitless) effort to move up BUT of course it is dangerous both to riders and spectators.
The problem with danger is it's great to watch, especially when avoiding disaster involves no shortage of skill, but, like I say, only up to the point where someone gets hurt... |
