It really was! My spaghetti never tasted better after that training!

Great training report, what are your goals?
I'm not sure what goals do you mean? If you mean general goals/dreams, you can check an earlier post! If you mean short-term goals, it's easy: I want to start my career the best way possible, and prove I have much to offer to the sport and the team. I only have a one-year contract so I only have one season to prove that!

Yes indeed! Love the outfit I'm riding around in now.
Selwink wrote:
Nice report, do you have an idea about your schedule for this season?
Well, I've never really raced for a team before, so I'm not sure how it works. I have some ideas about in what races I'd like to compete, but I'm not sure if the DS will choose my calendar, or if I get a say... But there is a training camp coming up with the entire team, I'm pretty sure we'll get some more info there!
Thank you for showing interest!
Bye!

Nice training, is there one race you'd really like to be part this year? |

Thanks, tpinot! I see you're a big fan of Pinot and of FDJ! I hope you'll be rooting for me, too, this season!
Concerning your question, now. Well, I realize I'll mainly be racing .HC and .1 races. Too many World Tour races might be too overwhelming to start with. But if I could choose one World Tour race to start (even if it's as a domestique), it would have to be the Tour of Suisse.

One suggestion: please install and FDJ jersey with blue shorts, they look much better IMHO and FDJ use them IRL. |

Well, the ones I use now is the current training outfit. In January, the entire team will receive the new models with blue shorts. But until then, this will have to do! Thanks for your opinion, though!

I can see that you really need to improve that TT position a lot! But, I think there will be many great times ahead at FDJ too :) |

Great news as I went on a little trip to Alpe d'Huez! Right before the weather conditions will cover the Alpe d'Huez under a blanket of snow, I climbed it 5 times on two days. I had to ride on save-energy but I recorded my times, of course, I'll share them with you!
DAY 1
First Time: 56 minutes 35 seconds
Second Time: 52 minutes 24 seconds
Third Time: 53 minutes 02 seconds
DAY 2
First Time: 52 minutes 11 seconds
Second Time: 51 minutes 12 seconds
I think those are some pretty good times. I had the advantage that I only had 5 km of flat road before the climb started, but I had to keep something back for the other climbs. I'm pretty happy with my performance overall!

I'm sure it'll be a great season! But that TT position is a disaster so far. There's some work to be done there, that's for sure...
I see I have a moderate amount of fans here at the blog! Great to see there's interest in this sport. And I'm sure they'll be more visitors once the racing season begins, people aren't thinking about cycling now, that's for sure!

Nice work Jean, those times look pretty decent
Hopefully we should see you in the World Tour a bit this year - perhaps Romandie as well as Suisse?

Not bad times on L'Alpe
Don't you get a bit tired of answering all these questions or do you like to be in the spotlights?

I really hope so. I'm sure I have a lot to offer to FDJ, even on World Tour level. I'd love it if they would use me in some World Tour races. Mostly that's up to our DS, though! I hope to have more news about that soon!

Thank you! I'm pretty proud of them myself.
I actually quite enjoy all these questions. It helps me be a little more extravert, which will definitely help in my career. If all goes well, I might get in contact with the media at some times, so it helps me working on these skills. And I also promised to make the sport more transparant, I have nothing to hide!

To be honest, I've only climbed Alpe d'Huez once before, and that was years ago. So the first time was a reckon, I also had to keep reserve to climb it two more times the same day. The second time was pretty good, the third time was a bit tougher.
The second day was perfect. I had recuperated extremely well and I still knew the climb from the day before. I also had to climb it only twice instead of three times! But I plan on returning there more and try to break my record, at least once a year!
I've to catch a flight tomorrow morning, you'll read what's it about a little later! Until then,

It's 9 o'clock in the evening and we've arrived in Andalucia (Spain) for my first team training camp, Our hotel is in Granada. Even though it's late November, the weather is quite well here. Weather predictions talk about 15°C for the next days, only little rain is expected! Ideal for some good team training, especially if the sun shines. It's a one-week team training camp and the plan is to do some team building alongside some training.
My room for the next week!
On the fourth and fifth day, we have someone from the French press visiting, so I expect we'll have some photographs to show you then! We'll probably be divided into groups of 8 to 10 man, depending on our training schedule (climbing, sprinting, time trialing...). The team building will be with the entire group. I think it's a great initiative by the management, I can imagine I'll be more excited to work for someone all year long if I know what kind of man he is.
Lovely place to eat dinner!
Marc Madiot, our DS, has also announced we can make suggestions about our 2013 season schedule. So tomorrow I have an appointment with him after dinner to talk about my upcoming year. Of course, nothing will be cut in stone yet. In January we'll receive our provisional, possible schedules. Though you can understand the team won't decide who'll ride the Tour in January.
So tomorrow I'll tell him I want to ride a Grand Tour, for sure. I'd love to ride in some WT stage races to gain experience. Besides that, I'd be happy to be a domestique for the Dutch-Belgian Ardennes weekend. I just want to race as much as possible, helping or not, doesn't matter.
On the flight here, I sat next to Alexandre (Geniez). He came over from Argos so is also new in the team. He's also a climber, so we have that in common. We talked for a while and we really got along well. For someone introvert like me it's not easy making friends quick, so I'm real happy! And it gets better, he doesn't live very far from me, so we could even go training together sometimes. So the training camp is off to a good start for me!

Well, believe me, that fifth time, you're wondering just what the hell you're doing! But it's a beautiful climb, of course!
I have to go now, I promised to meet Gina on Skype in five minutes. Bye!

Nice report and pics
@Jean: Is it me or is the French press more interested in you than the Swiss press. If so, will you ever consider naturalizing to French?

Wow, a lot of replies here! Time to answer some of them!

Me, too! I'm really anxious to see where I'll race this year! I hope as much as possible!
Daggen wrote:

It's not really a matter of chosing for me. I'm just a 21 year old guy who loves to ride a bike. When FDJ offers you a contract, you don't think twice! It's a golden opportunity and I would've grabbed such an opportunity by BMC or IAM Cycling, too! Though I hope to one day ride for a Swiss Team!
Selwink wrote:

Well, the French press is coming for the entire team, not really for me. As a matter of fact, I did get a call from a Swiss newspaper to do a small interview about my debut as a professional rider. Overall Swiss is just less into cycling, so the fact that the interest in me is coming up even a little bit is hopeful!
Concerning your question: no. I'm Swiss. Even though I love France as much as I do, I was born and raised in Switzerland. Wouldn't change that for the world!
Also thanks to ThVoets, The Rider and Miguel98 for their replies!
See you soon!
