While this version of the game doesn't really have the best AI, i don't think that's the reason. I don't even have a 70+ sprinter, and Ricco has been at the front all day.
It looks more or less like a lottery. Maybe if your GC rider has a lower sprint stat himself, that they might be caught behind more easily?

I don't think it's a lottery. I think it has something to do with flat and sprint stats. The 7 big names that lost time in the second stage were also caught behind in the first one. So, it's clear that they don't position very well in the peloton during/at the final of the stage.

There it is
A GT stage win in our second year of existence...a bit unreal, especially considering our long-term plan.
A much improved sprint preparation, a mediocre sprint opening, and we can be very lucky it still worked out somehow.
Commiserations to SRB who certainly had high hopes until the very last metres.
Stage 3 is now the one possibly providing us with the first do-or-die showdown regarding the maglia rosa issue until the ITT.
The stage one bonus seconds give us a small edge now in the way that any podium finish ahead of Swift suffices.
Either way, 50% of our minimum goal are achieved now

1:30 Nibali? Are you kidding me? There goes the race. And Richeze can't even contest the sprints. What a joke. Glad we've got guys going for the breakaway though, maybe that will work out when we hit the hills/mountains. Nibali has really not been worth what I paid for him this year though.

It's going to be one of those races, isn't it JJ?

Fantastic to see Meyer go out on the attack and snag the KOM jersey. Phinney's interest in the sprints is serving him well in GC. Need him to stay safe and hopefully grab the jersey in the TT.

Desperately disappointed here at SRB.
Van Heerden was metres away from a sensational victory and is edged back into third. But more stressful is that Sella loses an unnecessary 1.30.
The only silver lining perhaps is that so many others lost a similar amount of time. Also that Van Heerden is sprinting incredibly strongly in comparison with other second rank sprinters. I guess Van Heerden is just that bit better than those others.

Positioning yourself as the 68th rider in a sprint without crashes shouldn't be considered poor positioning imo, the game just decider to make gaps for no obiols reason.

Wind is a perfectly valid reason.

Hmm, if this is going to happen every stage, then good bye any chance of a top 10 result..
At least Forero made a really solid sprint, this season he is at least getting himself to these sprints.

Kwiatkowski
Still a collection of 1st, 2nd and 3rd is a good start to the Giro for Swift!

I am happy enough that Van Heerden was looking to win, though obviously would have been better sucking Mohs' wheel.
Not sure how the AI will handle stage 4's profile, I am thinking hilly guy to win but no gaps. I can but hope because I don't think Sella will be in a good position!

Stage 4 looks like a good finish for Trofimov. If there are any gaps, then just a few seconds or so. But I doubt so.
As it`s hilly rated I doubt that sprinters will have a good position in the end. More likely the favourites and puncheurs will already attack and spend energy on the flat for no reason just to be involved in the uphill sprint in the end. |

Nice sprints so far! Both Bennati and Swift have looked good, as have their trains. Bennati in pink, who knows he can hang on to it untill the timetrial.
Tough luck though for those who lost time in the split but they might get some more freedom later on.

Congratulations to Bennati, this must be a huge moment for Puma. Wearing the leader's jersey in their first GT.

I can only imagine your frustration when playing through the stage, SN. So annoying when that happens to your leader.
And what a sham that so many big names lost time in that split on the previous stage. I don't mind Caruso dropping, as that just means he's more likely to go for a stage win, but I feel sorry for Smowz, Bushwackers, etc...
As for tomorrow, I highly doubt we'll see any gaps at all. Since the AI isn't clever enough to create "leadouts" to place their captains in good position at the foot of the hill, we'll probably see some domestiques leading onto the climb and the favourites coming from behind with high speed. Someone like Trofimov might be able to gain 10-15 seconds with good position, but more than that is unlikely, imo.
And of course, congrats Puma! I'm always glad to see you winning!

No gaps is nice. Im hoping for Ulissi on stage 4, as that was one of the reasons why I brought him. He already lost time, so he should be able to get away if he has the strength.
Can't look past Trofimov though, probably with Phinney also in top 3.

Swift still delivered well, but congrats to cio and team Bennati

Those were 2 (Stage 2 and 3) some kind of weird sprints for us.
Never really expected Stauff to join the sprints as a pure sprinter but just as a lead-out man (optimistically) as normally just Ciolek hangs on but he clearly shows now why I will keep him for next season as a No. 2 sprinter.
3rd stage was very good position wise.
Great reports so far from the sprints (I guess might be a bit boring reporting/looking as a reporter at those pancake flat stages with just one "mountain" and looking forward to the first hill finish, I hope that might be the one stage for Claeys -> finish not too long but not too short.
