Omloop Team Confirmed

With the action in the Middle East concluding later today that means its nearly time for TLI to be back in action. At the same time as Langkawi the one day races kick off with the Omloop! Its the opening cobbled race of the season and is going to attract a lot of top names.
We can now confirm our startlist for this race:

Leader: Juan Antonio Flecha
Free Role: Sylvain Chavanel
Free Role: Maxime Oget
Team Mate: George Hincapie
Team Mate: Scott Thwaites
Team Mate: Guillaume Van Keirsbulck
Team Mate: Ignatas Konovlovas
Team Mate: Dag Jensen

Target: Win

A very strong line-up for this key race. What is more worrying is that it is not even full strength.

I only just discovered that Lunar Industries is only something from a movie.
I actually thought it was a real company. I watched 'Moon' today, and everything became clear to me.
Now is the time to laugh at me Pfft

Omloop

well the race in ll was preaty good. I guess 19 in you first race can't be a bad result. But i feel like if I was in a better postion t the start of the cobbles that I might have gotten a higher place. All, in all it was though.

8 Conclusions from Omloop Het Neiuwsblad

1) My spelling will never improve
The Omloop is by far the hardest race on the calendar to spell. Anything with a Flemish base is a pain at the best of times, let alone when there are 3 vowels in the first 4 letters. And as has been pointed out i cannot spell Ribeiro or Van Keirsbulck properly either... well normally.. At least i can manage most race favorites!

2) ING-InBev are the team to beat on Cobbles
We all knew that there were two big cobbles teams, MCS and ING. While MCS could put down a bit of a lackluster performance to poor positioning, ING were on another level. Boom and Wynants managed to pull back every attack over the final 30km, while the rest of the team made sure the break was in reach entering the final moments. If Boonen and ING are this good in the Major Classics, i can't see anyone beating them

3) Positioning is key
As the race heated up in the final kilometers many of the big names were found in the second group. Flecha, Pozzato and Terpstra were all considered as favorites but found themselves scrambling to even feature. Conversely Sagan and some others found themselves in the lead group following the splits. From here they could sit in and wait, letting the big names pull them along. In the bigger races the pace will be higher, and if a rider is in the wrong group, even once, their day will be done.

4) 4 seasons in a Day
Europe has some of the most diverse weather in the whole world. The Flanders classics are known for their changeable weather. The Omloop showed off cold, wet, wind, sun and warmth across its race. We all know that different riders like certain conditions and if the weather plays up in the big races we will see different riders featuring.

5) Attacking does not always work
In the final stages of the Omloop there was near constant attacking. Chavanel and Vanmarcke were in every move that tried to go, but never gained a gap. They did damage to the group yes, but without gaining that gap it was wasted energy. As we saw when Boonen and Ballan just powered away in the final 6km. Attacks will win the big classics, but they have to be timed correctly.

6) Dont be afraid to go early
We saw three big outsiders attacking very early. Turgot went with just under 100km to go, and Thomas and Langeveld attacked with more than 60k to go. Yet they all ended up in the Top20 having only been caught in the final 4km. We've also seen Boonen and Cancellara going solo over long periods to win in recent years, and this could be the way to win the big races.

7) TLI relish the Outsider label
TLI have two of the biggest cobblers of the moment in Flecha and Chavanel. But they will only be seen as outsiders compared to Boonen and Cancellara. TLI used this to attack with its domestiques. We saw Jensen and Konovlovas attacking before the later was in the break. Chavanel relished the chance to attack towards the end as well. If they can hone this art they could be a bigger feature than previously thought.

8) Its impossible to read into the Omloop
Simply meaning the WT classics are a whole different ball-game. There will be more riders, bigger riders and more pressure. The weather is different and the routes harder. This is a good way to test the legs and teams, but it has very little relevance to who will win the big ones. Lets just sit back and enjoy the action when it comes.

What's so hard to spell in Omloop het Nieuwsblad btw?
Well, it's my language, so that's probably it Wink

 for point 1

Cobbles are definitely going to be interesting. I still think it's going to be ING vs. MCS for the WT races, with Flecha and Chavanel probably going to get better results as the races get more difficult. Only 5 WT races could start here (but I probably told you that already Wink ), so the field will get even stronger in E3, Ronde and Roubaix.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico Squads

Paris-Nice
Leader: Sylavain Chavanel
Sprinter: Nacer Bouhanni
Team-Mate: Adrien Petit
Team-Mate: Christophe Kern
Team-Mate: Kenny Elissonde
Team-Mate: Dennis Flahaut
Team-Mate: Pieter Jacobs
Team-Mate: Sergej Fuchs

Target: Stage Win + GC Top 3

Paris-Nice is of course a very important race to us as a team. All our Frenchmen will be in action on home turf, and will be looking to animate the race wherever possible. Of course one of our season goals is a GC podium here, and Chavanel will be hunting that. We believe he can do it, but it will take some luck. Also we want a stage win, and we believe several riders could manage that.

Tirreno-Adriatico
Leader: Levi Leipheimer
Free-Role: Maxime Oget
Free-Role: Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg
Team-Mate: David Zabriskie
Team-Mate: George Hincapie
Team-Mate: John Lee Augustyn
Team-Mate: Kristijan Durasek
Team-Mate: Marc De Maar

Target: Stage Win + Top10 GC

The amount of Time Trial pushes Levi into leadership over Maxime, just. But both can get good GC results, as we aim for a Top10. We also want a stage win, which is either to be a break or the TTT. Not as much pressure here as on the Nice team.

Good Luck with these two races Wink

Chavanel will be hard to beat, I'll need Gilbert to drop him bigtime on one of the hilly stages before the TT.

There is no (long) TT in Paris - Nice, only the 4km starting prologue Wink

Milano - San Remo Squad List

La Primavera is the longest and first of the WT classics. Its history has been for the sprinters, but since the addition of La Manie in 2008 its been more of a race for the punchers. It is also a very big race for TLI as a team. We hold 2009 winner Mark Cavendish and have set this race as a Win goal. So onto the team.

Leader: Mark Cavendish
Free-Role: Sylvain Chavanel
Team Mate: Tyler Farrar
Team Mate: George Hincapie
Team Mate: Ian Stannard
Team Mate: Nacer Bouhanni
Team Mate: Dennis Flahaut
Team Mate: Ramunas Navardauskas

Target: Win

Mark is the best sprinter in the world and even though this is his first race he will be favorite to win a mass sprint. Sylvain we hope will cover late attacks over the Cipressa and Poggio climbs.
Also Nacer, Tyler and Dennis all have great finishing kicks. George, Ramunas and Ian are just powerhouses who can hold the race together. We can't wait for this race

Yes, Pearl Izumi are the new sponsor for 2013. There are a few different rounds and i am redoing them all.
Each round will have a different restriction to keep things interesting. I have some more time on my hands and hope to get 5 Jours done as soon after PR as possible.
