No Brazil, no Venezuela, no Portugal for RR?
So I have only two chances for nomination:
Argentina - Ruben Bongiorno
Colombia - Wilson Zambrano
And I could be the selector for Argentina.. (1 rider still missing!) |

Updated list of teams without their qualified number of riders:
New Zealand – 8/9
USA – 7/9
Denmark – 5/6
Norway – 4/6
Finland – 1/3
Argentina (RR Reserve) – 2/3
Ireland (RR Reserve) – 1/3
Moldova (TT) – 0/2
Costa Rica (TT) – 1/2
Estonia (TT) – 1/2
Keep nominating everyone, even for teams who have qualified their minimum number already! Surprising that the USA hasn't reached their quota yet.

Wow, the one year Portugal has a few good riders putting in lots of points and they fail to qualify for the WCs, unlike last year when they were a worse nation. Surprising.

It wasnt the full nations rankings used to select the nations - rather one focusing specifically on Flat and Cobbled races. Plus disbanding teams' riders were not included - which ruled out Avelino, the only real Portugese points scorer in the terrain.

Oh I thought it was done solely based on the ranking point, didn't know the type of terrain would be used to determine the points.
Can't say I like or agree with this type of selection but I'm too late to the party, no point in discussing it now.

Usually it would be all ranking points but the problem with that for a flat/cobbles course is that hills and mountains tend to dominate the rankings - so it ought to lead to a better quality race this way as the stronger riders on the terrain should now have a strong support setup. Portugal probably do suffer most unfortunately

And Spain, down to 6 riders. I agree with the sentiment though.

I have no beef with Portugal not being here. It would have been nice for me if they had been but it's not that that makes me prefer the old system. Although smaller nations with a very good sprinter or a good puncheur or a great guy for the cobbles now get a better chance in these races (and I do like that) and the race should have a better quality like this, I'm just not a big fan of limiting participants due to inadequacy to the parcours just because these are the WC and it's part of the appeal of the race. But of course this is a mater of taste.

With all the nominations in, the following changes to team numbers has occurred:

South Africa replace them in the RR with 3 riders

Denmark drops from 6 to 3 riders
Norway drops from 6 to 3 riders
Switzerland rise from 6 to 9 riders
Czech Republic rise from 3 to 6 riders
Slovenia rise from 3 to 6 riders
Moldova is dropped from the ITT due to no selections. There is no replacement.
I will start sending out the selection PMs in the next hour or two.
