Awesome, now i remember also cheared for him all the years on the track, even though i was a little kid. He was a beast on that track. What an asshole if he behaved like that when you wanted an autograph.
I cant stand arrogance, the riders should know that without all the spectators and fans they would be nothing.

I was hugely fond of him from Atlanta 1996 till, erm, that day.
In May 1999, maybe early June, that was the last week-end of the Giro anyway, I went with my father and a friend (also a cyclist, who rode on track, and was fond of Rousseau) to the inauguration of a new velodrome around here.
The organisers had gathered seven French world champion, and the rest of the field was made of local riders. Among the world champions were the Team Sprint WC seniors (Le Quellec, Rousseau, Tournant), Keirin world champion (F. Magné) and the espoirs (or juniors) team sprint world champion (I can't find the names).
Sadly, it rained that day, so after having youngsters quietly rolling on the track, they decided there would be a break instead of the first events. Sadly the rain increased, so all events were cancelled, and, we were all wet.
As we had nothing else to do, me and my mate went for autographs. All guys behaved nicely, especially Magné. When we got to Rousseau, it was "no, not now, one minute please". Fine, we waited. Then he passed by us again, and "not now, I must change my clothes". So, we waited in the rain, for five minutes or so. He opened the door and "(damn, you two are still there ?) not now ! I must dismount my bike". 10 more minutes in the rain and he'd walk out with his bike in the bike bag. Eventually he'd sign us our autographs 10 m farther.
What an asshole, he probably got quite an amount of money for being there, doing P.R. stuff. All his mates behaved very nicely, but he was a total prick.
I still enjoy watching the Fiedler-Rousseau final from W.C. 1997 though. |

Interesting story. It just shows how ungreatfull some of these primadonnas can be.
And sad that they never did race that day , must have been a huge dissapointment.
Good to hear that the rest was sympathic guys, that is always nice to experience

What a difficult question to ask, this thread.
One is eager to say Cancellara, of course, but I guess I'd have to say any rider that's modest, honest and just a good sport. So Cancellara  but also Boonen, Contador (yes, Contador), Greipel (because he's not afraid of some dirty work)... |

Kris Boeckmans because of the interviews he gave for Belgian television during the most recent Tour de France. He was beaming every single time and you could tell he was enjoying his time there. Even when he had broken his chain while he was positioned perfectly in Greipels lead-out train in Metz, he was still optimistic in the interview afterwards. Great guy!
But apparently the big guys don't seem to like him. Cavendish was mad at him because he had to do some wild manoeuvres to lead out Van Hummel and Greipel sent him a text message 'cause Boeckmans had interrupted Greipel's train in the above mentioned stage to Metz. |

Yeah but Cavendish is not a nice guy and pretty much gets mad at everyone if it doesn't go his way. Not too insult anyone here, but from my experience that's true. He's the best sprinter, however.
Boeckmans was indeed great in his interviews, and it's impressive he stayed on his bike when his chain broke! He's a nice fella. |

Voeckler said once in an interview that when Boonen was the World Champion, there was some race (can't remember XD) where he didn't want anyone to attack(for some idiot reason). Voeckler attacked (there's no one that puts rules in the race) and when he was passing by Boonen, he punched Voeckler in the back. Looks an idiot to me |

My favourite rider is Contador. The guy seems to be very nice person, and I enjoy the way he kinda dances on the bike when he attacks.
I also follow Cancellara and Van den Broeck.
I don't mind a Colombian rider having a good result here and there.

Give me video proving that and I'll believe you.
But believe me, I live in Belgium so I see a lot of Boonen, and he's not the kind of guy to punch someone in the back.
Voecker, however, is the kind of guy who would think that he'd get hit in the back and tell us all about it. (I have nothing against Voeckler, though)

That was in the 2006 TDF.
Actually, Voeckler said Boonen was jealous. He also said other riders threatened to throw their bidons at him if he would attack.
Boonen replied he didn't hit him, but lost his balance and had to grab Voeckler to avoid falling.
I rather believe Boonen on this case. He's such a nice guy.
Example, after having won the 2012 Ronde van Vlaanderen, he invited this kid to thank him for being such a big fan. |
