Santos Tour Down Under Preview
The Santos TdU is the first WT race of the year. The stages are usually quite flat, although the Willunga Hill will be climbed twice in stage 5. The win will probably go to a punchy sprinter or a puncher.
Our squad:
We will aim for a top 10 with Gömböcz and Clemson, and Bahr is also one of the best sprinters there, so we have high hopes before the race.

Thanks for the comments guys, let's see how we did!
Santos Tour Down Under Stage 1
Today's profile is quite flat, although the small hill with about 15km from the finish should test the sprinters legs. We'll try to get a good placement with Bahr.
Right after the start, a quite strong breakaway formed. Fenn, Rosseler, Hayman and D.Vanendert were the escapies.
1st intermediate sprint
Spoiler 1. Fenn
2. Rosseler
3. Hayman
KOM Sprint
Spoiler 1. Hayman
2. Vanendert
3. Fenn
2nd intermediate sprint
Spoiler 1. Hayman
2. Rosseler
3. Txurruka (joined the break later)
Meanwhile in the peleton Katusha was working hard, with the help of SpiderTech - Cervélo.
At the 20km mark, the breakaway got caught and the sprint preparations started with Greenedge being in the lead. At 12km we formed our train with Moore, Gömböcz, Clemson and Bahr. Our train dominated the front, and Moore worked very well, and led the train for a long time.
At the 3km mark, we were leading and Bos and Belletti were on the wheel of Bahr.
Unfortunately Bahr started his jump too late and Bos jumped through with some others. Will Bahr be able to win?
And Theo Bos wins it! What a great start of the season for the Dutchman! He edges Belletti and Bahr on the line!
Some GC contenders like Voigt and Westra lost today 1:27 being caught in a split in the closing KMs.

DS: We screwed our train up, but with time, we'll get more and more experienced and we'll look to improve tomorrow.
Today wasn't an especially good stage, but Steve Moore deserves one point for his incredible leadout work.

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 2
After the very start of the race, some riders wanted the challenge, so they joined the break. Sutton, Hunter and Bodnar wanted to fight for the points.
1st intermediate sprint
Spoiler 1. Sutton
2. Hunter
3. Bodnar
KOM sprint
Spoiler 1. Sutton
2. Hunter
3. Bodnar
4. Tjallingi
5. Veuchelen
2nd intermediate sprint

3. Bodnar
The pace in the peleton was very slow, so Lightart and Kolobnev decided to attack. However Lampre - ISD woke up and reeled them in quickly, and initiated a very high pace.
Despite the high pace, John Clemson decided to attack and Kolobnev, Voigt and Wynants followed him immediately.
The attack wasn't strong enough, but Wynants managed to go solo at the 5 km mark. Roux and Dekker tried, but they couldn't catch him. We tried to reel him in, but he was very strong.
At 1km Wynants was still in the lead, and had a good gap over the peleton, where a big sprint started.
And Wynants takes it! He was the strongest of the competitors! Rabobank 2/2 so far, they must be glad with the TdU so far. Pietropolli comes 2nd and Dekker is 3rd, with Gömböcz following 4th.
1 | Maarten Wynants | Rabobank Cycling Team | 3h31'43 | 2 | Daniele Pietropolli | Lampre - ISD | + 19 | 3 | Thomas Dekker | Garmin - Sharp | s.t. | 4 | Máté Gömböcz | SpiderTech - Cervélo | s.t. | 5 | Jérôme Pineau | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | s.t. | 6 | Manuel Quinziato | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 7 | Ángel Vicioso | Katusha Team | s.t. | 8 | Christian Bahr | SpiderTech - Cervélo | s.t. | 9 | George Hincapie | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 10 | Stephen Cummings | BMC Racing Team | s.t. |
Pietropolli takes the leaders jersey, because Wynants lost time on the 1st stage.
1 | Daniele Pietropolli | Lampre - ISD | 7h15'07 | 2 | Christian Bahr | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 2 | 3 | John Clemson | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 6 | 4 | Assan Bazayev | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 5 | Máté Gömböcz | SpiderTech - Cervélo | s.t. | 6 | Anthony Roux | FDJ - BigMat | s.t. | 7 | Lloyd Mondory | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. | 8 | Jérôme Pineau | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | s.t. | 9 | Manuel Quinziato | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 10 | Lucas Sebastián Haedo | Team Saxo Bank - Tinkoff Bank | s.t. |

Today Michael Kern did an outstanding protecting job, therefore he gets 1 point as well, as fast finisher Gömböcz.
Michael Kern Jr. - 1
Gömböcz - 1 |
