Except Tonga went on to win Wink

Australia 46-0 Samoa was a total blowout, Valentine Holmes becoming the first player to score 5 tries in a RLWC match. A bad finish to an awful tournament from the Samoans, the looked to be ok against Tonga but the other three matches just showed how far behind the top teams they really are.

On the other side, Lebanon really took it up to Tonga! Such great fight shown by them and they almost pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament, but the Tongans hang on 24-22 and make their first ever semi-finals appearance. Massive respect for what both these teams have achieved, particularly the Cedars who saved their most impressive performance 'til last.

Lebanon-Tonga looks like it was a cracker, very impressed by both sides from the bits I saw. Now for Kiwis against Fiji. Fingers crossed, been a quiet half so far, Johnson a little weak.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Well who would have thought it? Fiji beat the Kiwis and are into the semis against Oz again. 4-2 win (no tries scored) but a really intense game. Thought the NZ pack would get a roll on but an incredible effort from the Bati, some great defence.

Lebanon nearly caught Tonga napping, Mitchell Moses pretty mercurial at times, Fittler has brought out the best in them. Hope tomorrow goes with the formbook however.

This has been the first RLWC i've actually paid any attention to, boy did i pick a good one! So many great stories coming through in the games, easily outweighing the plethora of background issues affecting various teams.

Loved NZ-Fiji, proof that a great game doesn't have to be high scoring. Compared to the amazing 24-22 Tonga-Lebenon game which was equally great and high scoring.

Hopefully the Semis and Final can continue to provide fireworkds and great close games. Big chance to RL to boost it's profile if that can happen.

Scrappy game that but there were some promising signs. Bennett makes some odd choices for mine, seems clear to most that the team is much better with Roby but that Hodgson keeps getting the starting berth (I figure cos he plays NRL) despite his poor distribution and annoying little shift out of dummy half. And Bateman's a good player but clearly not an international centre, Ryan Hall must be pulling his hair out on his wing. Up early again for Tonga next week, should be a cracker.

Same, it's been great fun as a spectacle for sure. I'm not sure about the fairness of the group stage and just how it was worked out in regards to world rankings, but that might be changed with more teams set for the next tournament in four years' time anyway.

I was really disappointed with PNG in that match, was really expecting them to take it up to England a bit more. Whether it was playing away from home or losing their captain Mead to injury, something just wasn't clicking for them which is a shame.

At least we're going to have two really intriguing semi-finals now. Australia and Fiji are two of the best teams to watch, so many fast-paced attacks and some phenomenal playmakers on both sides. Australia will be the favourites, but this will no doubt be their toughest assignment so far. Fiji have shown they're a world class team who could definitely go all the way and even win the cup if things go their way.

The commentary team today seemed to think that Tonga should be favourites going into the other semi, but I reckon England are more likely to win. After seeing how Lebanon were able to trouble the Tongans, the English backline of Widdop (or Lomax?), Hall and McGillvary could cause a lot of damage while Burgess, Graham and co. should be able to counteract the threat of Taumalolo and Fifita.

Absolutely stunning match there. The Tongans have brought everything to this World Cup but England had put in a class performance there with some great scramble defence to boot. Then 3 tries in the last 7 minutes and I was having painful flashbacks of 4 years ago. Incredible ending and heartbreaking for the unbelievable Tongan fans but we're in the final Grin

Gutted after that, just Dugan's fingertips on Kallum Watkins making the difference. One of the most intense games I've ever seen, just a shame our halves couldn't keep it together in the aussie 20.

Raziz
Yep, pretty damn close and intense game that. I was watching both Ashes though so didn't watch it ALL.

So, Cam Smith completes a stunning year by leading his country to a World Cup victory while Cooper Cronk finishes his rep footy career on the best possible note. Banana

Very tense game, there wasn't a lot between the two teams in the end. Same as Raziz, I missed some of the first half but that was a great match that really proved how a tough defensive-minded battle can be just as entertaining as an all-out scoring feast. England did seem a bit unlucky at times but ultimately the best team of the tournament won, so it's probably a fair result.

This World Cup proved to be a far more interesting tournament than I was expecting, so I'll definitely be tuning in for 2021!

The pinnacle of rugby league is on again right. Ow! NSW v QLD state of origin has just started. The most interesting origin series I’m a long time, nsw featuring 11 debutants out of 17 players and QLD losing all four of their best players through retirement/injury since last year, also replacing them with young and inexperienced players. Streams should be relatively easy to find, if not try the r/nrl subreddit on the website reddit for more info. I’ll see if I can dig one up and post it. Should be a cracker!

Game 2 of one of the fiercest sporting rivalries in the history of sport tonight with NSW v QLD. QLD have won all but one or two 3-game series since the mid-2000’s. NSW won game 1, if they win here they seal the series which is huge. QLD have their star player Billy Slater. back from injury who is currently lifting them.
Game is almost at half time (2 40min halves) and NSW lead 12-10 after looking the worst of the two teams.

To stream, search ‘Fitzy1012_1’ on twitch as it’s surprisinfly the only reliable stream available.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have defeated the Saint George - Illawarra Dragons in the last minute to win 13-12 and progress to the preliminary final (last game before the Grand final) tonight! After being behind for the vast majority of the match, Adam Reynolds kicked 3 Field goals (worth one point) in 9 minutes to firstly take the lead (11-10), equal the scores (12-12) and then take the lead again (13-12) with 15 seconds remaining. After such an incredible game, South Sydney will play eternal rivals the Eastern Suburbs Roosters next Saturday(one of the most fierce rivalries in sport) in an effort to reach the final.
