For rider trades it's obviously different, but when it's just money it strikes my of favouritism, which I don't think is very fair. I don't think it should be banned, just don't agree with people who do it.
On the other hand, I have no problem with people who share nuggets they have discovered in the database, if they are willing to put time into it, why shouldn't they share.
During the transfers things are obviously different, but now? Go for it if you want too.

No, I don't agree - there's a lot of this game where the manager plays no part so I think the people who are canny and who put some time in deserve to have an advantage.

Why, if I spend 6 hours looking at the database, and work out the 100 best talents, then rank them from 1 to 100, why should I not be allowed to tell everyone else who they are.
They would still have to check, to make sure I haven't messed up somewhere, but surely if I spot good riders, then I would want to make sure someone signs them, so I should name then to ensure this is the case.

can't agree more with wacko. Simply tell me why you would want to do that. Its up to people to find riders themselves. After all, its not very difficult to find them at all.

These sort of discussions are part of the reason why I love the management game. Everyone has a different opinion, which makes the game less predictable and, more importantly, everything but boring

About the trade/money issue, I'm with rjc here, it's a matter of trust. I will when/if I sell riders give the buyer 2 choices, a lower sum that will start the auction or a bigger one where it's a part of the deal that I wont accept other offers. I see no problem with that.

To me the wisest atitude is to take the highest bid. That's the objective in auction, to take the biggest amount of money out of it.
However I can also understand a gentleman's agreement between two managers for a sensible transaction. I think it's legitimate if a manager aproaches another via PM to make an offer, that the deal get's sealed right away. There weren't any constraints holding all the other managers of doing the same, the thing is they just haven't thought of it so the bidder sould be given the merit for his entrepeneurship.
But I agree with Crommy it's nice to see this diversity of perspectives, it makes the game much more interesting.

I'm interested in more riders than I thought.
Same here, on my first shortlist I had 22 prospects. After searching the entire updated DB yesturday I now have 38.

Then you obviously have enough to avoid stealing my riders. |

On the transfer bids subject I can see the two sides of an argument from a selfish view. I would prefer to be able to make a deal knowing that I'm gonna get the rider and I'm not competing with anyone. However, if I want to buy a rider and someone else has already made a deal I didn't know about and I wanted him more/would have been prepared to bid more then I feel robbed. So it's a tough call. Up to each manager I reckon.

You know the answer to the second part of that question? Have a list, and PM everyone if you even slightly fancy the chance of hiring their rider. The one who acts soonest gets the best deal, or some such saying.

Yeah, rjc, that has been more or less sorted with the more firm rules about transfer talk but last year I asked on the first day of transfers and deals had already been made.

Please inform either myself or SN if you believe deals have been made pre-transfers. Or if you have concerns over the reasoning behind deals. Or if you just don't understand when you're offering 1 million for a rider, and the other manager is only offering 10k. Abuse won't be tolerated, cleverness will.
Likewise, if anyone wants the actual reasons why I do my transfers the way I do, (this season or last) I will be perfectly honest/blunt. In my eyes, they are my logic.

All I can hope this year no one will be trying to increase the wages for some free agents only because "he felt that the X rider needed to go for more than that"

Yeah, I just assumed it was allowed last season. If I see anything this time round I will inform people.

wacko: I think you have in your mind my bid on Faiers. It was like I said you last year - he was one of the most bargain buys in that time and my other transfer targets' salaries went too high
