Fastest time since 2006 but of course it doesn't feature every year and plenty of context involved. Froome very similar to his time in 2013 and Quintana a little quicker than his already fine 2013 effort.

There are probably 157 riders who would rather be 3rd overall than where they actually sit at the end of today....
Nairo could have won if he didn't get caught up in a crash earlier in the race. He also could have won the race if he was better in the TT. I cant really recall a point in the race where Valverde was a hindrance to Quintana's chances.
At the end of the day, I think Quintana was the strongest rider in the race from start to finish, but he wasn't strong enough to overcome the gap that Froome had built up early in the race.

There are many factors that can contribute to that, yes hit carbon in the right way and it will crack but it's also an easy repair job. The higher end machines today are alot sturdier than the bikes a few years ago but thats what happens as technology advances. Modern carbon bikes will outlast alloy frames but steel well that's another story.

Wouldn't compare TVG condition with Froomes. You don't suffer that much if you have bronchitis, just look at Pozzovivo who finished fifth in the giro last year even though he had bronchitis almost the whole giro. |

Wouldn't compare TVG condition with Froomes. You don't suffer that much if you have bronchitis, just look at Pozzovivo who finished fifth in the giro last year even though he had bronchitis almost the whole giro.
That's just one example. Some riders are forced to retire when they have bronchitis. Laurens ten Dam got bronchitis this TdF and finished in the Grupetto on every stage since. Didier abandoned because of Bronchitis. UrĂ¡n got bronchitis in the Giro and lost loads of time.
Don't know about Pozzovivo, but it would've been quite remarkable to be able to finish 5th despite having bronchitis throughout the entire giro. |
