Nairo Quintana - 2016
Kiserlovski01
2nd is still a great result in the TDF, and as Nairo is still young, no doubt he'll be on the highest step one day Smile

Spoiler

Would it be possible to show Nairo's palmares so far?

sutty68
2nd is great, now come back next year and win Smile

Jakstar22
Thanks guys!!! He had a great race but unfortunately wasn't quite good enough!! Next year could be his year though!

And I will work on his palmares Kiserlovski01. Will let you know when it is ready and will post it!

Sorry I haven't been posting guys. I have been away and busy the past couple of weeks. Haven't had a lot of time at all. But I am here to update now!

Clasica Ciclista San Sebastian

27th July 2015

Well we are in Spain now for the Clasica Ciclista San Sebastian. The Tour de France ended a week ago and for me it has been a week of long, easy rides and getting myself prepared for today. I have lost quite a bit of form so I am not expecting a lot from today but Visconti is here and he will be the 2nd in charge behind me. This hilly classic is 231.8km in length and involves quite a lot of hills throughout today’s route. Last year Alejandro Valverde won the race in fantastic style ahead of Gilbert and Visconti was 3rd. Below is the team for this race. It’s a strong team as we have most of our top riders here today.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/The%20Team_zpstirf4wna.jpg

It should be a very exciting race as we go over the hills of Spain.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsa1vlzaar.jpg

So the plan is to set Visconti up for the win. Contador, Intxausti and I are all here to do that. The other 4 riders are here to work and for the breakaway.

The Race

Dayer Quintana attacked going for the breakaway.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CCS%201_zpsdm2svuao.jpg

He was later joined by Garmin rider Maaskant.

The early breakaway group was caught. Almost immediately after he attacked again and was followed by Gomez. These 2 riders formed the break of the day.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CCS%202_zpsnxwpufho.jpg

Intxausti attacked on one of the biggest climbs of the day with 53km to go.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CCS%203_zpsz8a5kvic.jpg

I was at the front of the race and a small hill came up so I attacked. The only rider to follow was Froome.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CCS%204_zpsgjtfunkt.jpg

The sprint started with 3km to go. Gilbert is leading and I am in 2nd. The 2 riders behind the group are Contador and Visconti.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CCS%205_zpsh5umikgz.jpg

The World Champion takes the win here! Froome takes 2nd and Henao 3rd. I finish in 9th place.

Well a top 10 is a good result. I have just finished a 3 week race and I need a break. I have decided with the team management that I will skip the Vuelta a Burgos in a week. Contador will take my spot there as leader. My next race is in Canada.

Top ten is pretty good given these hillier races aren't Nairo's best terrain. Wink

Team Update

8th August 2015

A big day today, I got the news that I was on the shortlist for the World Championships for Colombia which is great to hear!! I have been looking forward the worlds all year and this year I’m looking to do a lot better!

In other news Alejandro Valverde is the topic of the week! Remember how he “retired”?? Okay well apparently the team has had him on the pay roll this entire year!! This is apparently allowed...the UCI has already checked it out! Nobody knew, not even me until he showed up at the Vuelta a Burgos (which he has won the past 2 years in a row). He came 5th on the 1st stage and is already the best placed on the GC out of the favourites. I guess he has made his official come back! Can’t wait to race with him again! I will keep you updated on Valverde’s movements and results!

trekbmc
 probably not so good for the team to be paying his wage all season. Pfft

Hopefully he does well in Burgos and hopefully Nairo gets to race the world/does well at the worlds. Wink

GP de Montreal

15th September 2015

This race doesn’t need an introduction. So basically the same race as yesterday. 205.8km of a hilly circuit around Montreal. I came 2nd last year to Simon Spilak who won the other day. I haven’t won this race before and would like to add it to my Palmares.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/The%20Team_zpsgmmm8s1s.jpg

So a different team today. No Valverde or Visconti. I am the pure leader so let’s so if this changes anything.

Voeckler wins for Garmin. Great victory for the Frenchman. I take 10th. Guess I have to wait 1 more year to win this race. Worlds are in a week. Going to be a pretty intense race this year.

GP de Quebec

13th September 2015

The Canadian Classics are now upon us! We start with a race through the streets of Quebec. This is a hilly circuit race that finishes on a slight uphill. This race is 203.8km long covering 15 full laps of the circuit. I am the defending champion this year and I plan on winning again. Last year I won for my father. This year I’m racing for myself!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/The%20Team_zpswtmnnvbf.jpg

A strong squad here to support me, Valverde even made the trip from Spain to help me out. With Valverde and Visconti as my right hand men we are a force to be reckoned with! Also a strong work team as well with the likes of Dayer, Haas and Madrazo!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpslavm3coc.jpg

The stage profile is above and quite challenging as you can see! I just hope me not racing the past month and half won’t affect my performance!

The Race

The early breakaway included Lodewyck, Minard and Veilleux.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CQ%201_zpsojiacgh9.jpg

With 118km to go the team assembled at the front. At the moment it is Haas, Madrazo and Capecchi.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CQ%202_zpskle48loa.jpg

Pozzovivo and Nieve attack with 96km to go. They are going for a long breakaway attempt!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CQ%203_zpskiqw9z0y.jpg

The favourites attacked. The Petronas here is Valverde. I am in the white just ahead.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CQ%204_zpsfl7w17ui.jpg

Spilak is about 15 seconds ahead of the group containing Gilbert, Henao, Mollema and me. Only 1km to go!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CQ%205_zps8wwi8l0m.jpg

Spilak takes the win!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/CQ%206_zpsiwk6spct.jpg

Gilbert takes 2nd, Henao 3rd, Mollema 4th and I round out the top 5.

Well I’m happy. Top 5 is still a great result! You can’t win everything! Valverde came in 7th which was a great finish for him. Visconti stayed in the peloton so there wasn’t any more pressure on us. Racing in Montreal next then it’s off to Worlds!

25th September 2015

The Worlds are upon us. First we have the ITT. Colombia doesn’t really have a shot as we don’t produce very many good time trialists but there are other countries. Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Poland, even Australia! I’m expecting a rider like Bradley Wiggins to win today.

17th February 2015 – Day of First Race Day for Nairo

I sat there looking at the race route for today’s race thinking to myself “How am I going to win this race overall?” I was right to you know...I had no idea how I was going to do this. Contador was also here for our team. It was really nerve racking because I wasn’t sure if last year was the last time I would lead this team. With Alberto Contador arriving it was something hard to deal with. I wasn’t sure if the team had signed him to support me, co-lead with me or to be the main leader of the team. I had no problem when Valverde was around because we both had different strengths and interests. He had already won a grand tour so it was my turn now. He was focused on the hilly classics and I was focused on the Tour de France. Now that Contador is here though do I still get first pick of races or does he take over my position and I support him. I guess we will find out over the next 4 days.

The World Road Race Championships have finally arrived. The past 2 years I have been in the top 5 and Gilbert has won the race 3 years in a row! This year I have ridden the route many times and have been working like crazy on my hill climbing. I feel I have improved and grown better then Gilbert but it is hard to tell.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsrytytd3x.jpg

The race route is 269km long with most of the race being a circuit. This circuit includes 1 large climb followed by a downhill into a small but steep final climb to finish on a downhill. This race is a good race for me and suits my strengths as a rider. In past years the circuit has been like this and Gilbert has beaten me. This time I am hoping that I am strong enough to be able to beat Gilbert at his own game.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/The%20Team_zpswxkrrc5e.jpg

I have Henao, Betancur and my little brother here to support me today. It is going to be a hard long day but I think I can do this!

The Race

Forero attacked at the start of the race for the Colombian team. Navardauskas tried to follow.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/WC%201_zpsbfxg7tzk.jpg

With 65km to go we started our assault. Henao got on the front with Betancur on his wheel followed by me. This is our one and only plan.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/WC%202_zpstexcqofs.jpg

Gilbert attacked on the climb. I followed and was on his wheel but I decided to call for water too early and lost ground. I am 25 seconds behind now.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/WC%203_zpsccqxmu6y.jpg

Valverde and Gilbert with 1km to go, same as last year.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/WC%204_zpsyisuc6st.jpg

Visconti is also about to catch up to the leading 2. I am 1’31 behind Visconti.

Somebody finally beats Gilbert! Valverde takes the World Championships!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/WC%205_zpszfypcgbl.jpg

Gilbert 2nd and Visconti 3rd.

In the end I came over the line in 6th and yet again miss out on the World Championships and the Tour de France in the same year.

Well at least we have it in our team. Valverde takes the World Championships during the year he decided to come back just before the Vuelta (which was a pretty good idea). I came in 6th. Look I can be happy but I’m disappointed. I ride my heart out every year but never get rewarded. When is it my turn?

Unlucky for Nairo not to get a medal Sad, but at least as you say it is in your team Wink

14th March 2015 – First win of the Season

The week of the Tirreno – Adriatico and expectations are high! Quintana raced against riders like Wiggins, Van Garderen and Schleck. This was the race for the blue jersey and there was always going to be memorable moments along the way. Nairo’s first stage win of the 2015 season was one of them. He won in a sprint against Wiggins, Schleck and Sanchez. He quoted after the stage “Winning today is exactly what I needed! My first stage win in the 2015 season and now I’m on the charge!” The image of Nairo winning that stage has remained in the history books for decades! Nairo really was the best cyclist of his time, it just took him a while to get on the charge. Nairo once quoted “The day Froome leaves, I take over.”

Il Lombardia happens once a year and it really is a big race! It is the final monument of the year and it brings riders like Gilbert, Valverde and Rodriguez. I go every now and then as well like 2 years ago when I came 2nd. I am here this year and will be co-leader with Valverde who has just come of his World Championship victory.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsmf45fzzs.jpg

The route is 247.8km in length with 4 main climbs. The race starts in Bergamo and finishes in the town of Lecco. With the final climb only peaking around 15km from the finish it will prove to be a very decisive climb.

Visconti, Valverde are also here so should prove to be a strong team. My worry is it is too strong.

The Race

Valverde in his new rainbow jersey!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/IL%201_zpsimr7nug8.jpg

With 170km to go, which is almost the base of the first climb, I set the team up at the front.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/IL%202_zpsxzd6oj6e.jpg

Spilak attacks with 50km to go. I get right on his wheel. Valverde follows my wheel.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/IL%203_zpssx3mwlpr.jpg

Betancur attacked on the final climb. Only 11km to go now. Valverde got on his wheel. I am a few riders back.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/IL%204_zpsfyeuo2v0.jpg

With 5km to go I am leading out Valverde. It’s a group of 13 favourites at the front.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/IL%205_zpswkjbwwma.jpg

1km to go and I am dropping out the back. Valverde is leading the sprint. Gilbert has just come out of the slipstream of Battaglin so it will be close.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/IL%206_zps1mfxocxw.jpg

Gilbert takes the win ahead of Dan Martin and Spilak 3rd. Valverde takes 6th.

Well Gilbert gets his revenge on Valverde. Good race from Gilbert, we did our best but couldn’t do it. That is my season all over. I guess you’ll hear my schedule and everything next season. The remainder of my posts this season will be transfers and some results.
