Ian Butler
sutty68 - I'll try to Smile

knockout - He's only like 6th in the points classification. The stages come with 3 intermediate sprints and they all give out 20 points per winner. Matthias isn't concentrating on those sprints so he's not that high up in points.

VoetsT - Thanks! It's great to wear the jersey another year Wink

jona500 - No, for the moment Matt isn't participating in intermediate sprints. He's not here for the Green Jersey. Since this is his first Tour, a stage win would be a big success already!

Martial1 - Oh no, not another Rojas Pfft

the_hoyle - Thanks. It seems he build up well for his 2nd objective of the season Smile

This was a most interesting stage. The peloton was broken up by echelons. Gilbert had been given a free pass after the first peloton totally lost organisation. So I decided to go after him alone, I came short 20 meters for the victory.

Well, so far it's been a good Tour. After 9 stages, including a tough hilly stage and a 52 km time trial, I'm 5th in the General Classification! I never imagined that happening. I've also had the chance of standing on the podium, collecting the young rider's jersey.

i67.photobucket.com/albums/h320/MatthiasVleminckx/ere10_zpseb6698fb.jpg

But there's also been some disappointment. Four times second. I wish I could trade them all in for one victory.

Let's hope I can still do it one of these days!

The second rest day is upon us, and it has been one hectic week. I'm still not getting used to this Grand Tour business, it's still all so chaotic and nervous to me.

Obviously I lost my young rider's jersey in the first mountain stage, but here's what happened this week!

It was starting to sink in. Maybe I'm good enough to win a stage in the Tour de France, but in order for that to work, I need a lot of luck thrown my way and I need to be able to finish the stage in perfect conditions.
I'm obviously not the kind of rider that takes victory after victory here like Cavendish, Greipel or Sagan.

Ouch, that hurt. The peloton in the Tour de France is different from any other peloton. Guys turn crazy here. What's up with the monster pace on the mountain slopes? For a guy like me, this equals torture.

I DID IT! Lucky number 13 for me! In a very thrilling sprint, I kept my lead right to the finish line, barely holding of powerhouse Greipel! It felt amazing. Winning in the Tour is unlike other victories. Here, you are the absolute center of the (cycling) world for a day. The Tour de France is broadcasted in so many countries, I can't believe I even did this. YES!

Now hold on to your hats, because things are about to get rought! The final week is filled with booby traps for the GC men. I hope Ritchie Porte will survive them all! There are some mountain stages, a hilly stage and a time trial. For us sprinters, there are two more chances. One more straight sprint and then the magical sprint on the Champs. I hope I make it there, and let's pray for my second victory there, right?

I've got to go again. I told oyu before, the Tour is hectic and busy. Not a moment's rest! Not even on the rest day!
See you in Paris!

All those second places in your first TdF!! Might be the signal for Orica to get you a train for next year! Roelandts would be a brilliant lead-out I reckon Wink Nice victory too in stage 13, guess that's a lucky number then! Furthermore, finishing your first TdF would obviously be an achievement it's self for a young rider like you, keep on going Matt, next objective: drinking a glass of champaign with the yellow one on your way to the Champs Smile

Martial1 - Yeah, he's doing very well. The podium is our objective!

Mresuperstar - Well, maybe it's my new lucky number, too Grin Thanks!

jona500 - A train would be very welcome. I've ruined some sprints just because I was too far back on some stages. Bringing Roelandts would be a first step towards more victories for sure! Drinking champagne, now there's an objective Matt can handle! Grin

Shonak - Thanks! Bertie isn't doing well Frown I don't understand it, though, his stats are still tower high. Must be in bad shape or something.

VoetsT - He'll need that banana to survive the upcoming mountain week for sure! Paris is near indeed Smile

FonsDeSpons - Thanks! Yeah, looking at the field, that victory is amazing!

TimoCycling - The entire team is performing quite well at the moment. Now is Porte's time, with some mountain stages coming up.

the_hoyle - Let's hope we can make it even better Wink

Thanks guys! I can't believe how many people are following and commenting on this story! Really keeps me very motivated!
I hope you don't mind I go through the Tour as fast as I do, but I know from previous experience that a Grand Tour can slow down a story dramatically and I wanted to avoid that!

Phew, finally, I made it! I'm very happy I was able to finish my first Grand Tour. That final week was a tough one, really exhausted me. I'll need a week to recover from it. For a non-climber, those mountain stages are extremely hard. The people don't see that on their television, but 40 minutes after the winner has crossed the line, we've struggling to get to the top in the time limit...

The fight for the GC was extremely tense, here's what happened!

Well, I have to say I didn't really expect to win on the Champs. All in all, I can look back on a very successful Tour de France. I made my debut here at age 24 and I did it with flying colors. I made it on the podium almost 8 times and I won a stage. What else could I have asked for? No, I return home a happy, tired man.

Best Young Rider: Wilco Kelderman (Belkin)
Best Team: Orica - GreenEdge

Hey, we got a prize! Ritchie Porte finishes on the podium after his 4th place last year. We're very happy for him, he worked real hard for it! And, of course, taking the Team Classification home is an amazing bonus for our Australian team.

This was good. I finally made my acquaintance with the Tour de France. At some times I felt it would kill me, but it brought me incredible sweetness in stage 13.

It's an experience I'll never forget.
Matt

Very, very strong Tour de France, especially if it's your first one. How many can say that they won a stage in there first TdF?
Happy to see that Kwiatkowski won the GC Grin (If it wasn't Porte Wink )

sutty68
Matthias and Richie certainly had enjoyable times in the Tour Smile

knockout
Great TdF for the team with a lot of podiums, the 3rd place in GC and the team classification.
And not forget Matt's first GT stage win of many.

The pics from the Champs Elysees are so awesome that I want to play the stage now, too.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Wow, what a Tour for Matt! A win, young jersey for a while, and quite good in the points classification too. He did well in the tricolore. Smile

Also, why exactly did Tony Martin win in front of home crowds? Did the Germans fall back in to the habit of annexation, or why exactly is Strasbourg German? Pfft
