Mollema might have been only a minute behind Froome had they conserved their energy by not attacking someone who had a flat tire.
A Saxo-Belkin combo would have put Froome multiple minutes behind.
That would've been really convenient had they known that beforehand.
And they weren't really attacking since they were already riding before that. They only stopped a short while during the feeding zone.
Theres a difference from having 1 or 2 guys on the front, and putting the whole team on the front though.
They probably got some motivation from hearing the news. I understand your reaction as you're a Valverde fan and I've been in the same situation. I think Valverde had it coming, because Belkin has never showed any sign of unsportmanship (besides the doping use, but everybody did that) before and I don't believe they would be that low.
Yep. The only reason they would have done that was to put Valverde out of the race. No one should even be trying to justify it as anything else, which is I guess my point.
If Valverde got back, and then lost 1 minute due to the echelon, just like Froome, I wouldn't feel cheated.

Guys who are mad at Belkin for riding: Ask yourself, what would Movistar do? I know for 100% sure that they would fucking ride aswell, so don't be mad, it's useless. That is just cycling. Countless times this happens in cycling.
OT: Best stage together with the stage won by Dan Martin, what a brilliant stage! Looking forward to tomorrow! |

When someone pisses off Valverde he barely says anything. He's only very talkative when he's praising people (which is most of the time)

Tour Down under last year. Valverde 2nd on GC, Gerrans 1st. Gerrans mechanical. Valverde went to the front to....tell the other teams to stop riding.

@Issoisso, try to enter in movistar's facebook please, because I can't. I've seen some people saying that they blocked their page to the portuguese people. How stupid is that!? |

Exactly. Omega was chasing I guess too, but for Cav.
They might have, but you cant say that for sure.

Belkin was literally the only team riding (except of Omega which is understandable), so no |

I recorded the stage and i just watched it again.
- The gap to Kittel's group started with over 100 kms to go.
- The gap was 1'45 when Belkin went to the front with 100 km to go.
- With 98 km to go the gap was in 1'10.
- With 96 km to go the break was caught and the difference to Kittel group was 1 minute. No sign of Belkin riders at the front.
- With 88 km to go no Belkin rider at the front, just OPQS with Saxo behind and the gap in 1'10.
- With 87 km to go you see Rui Costa speaking to OPQS guys in front of the peloton and there was no Belkin rider in there. The image then shows Valverde stopped.
- The next image is of Boeckmans escaping with 85.5 km to go.
- Then with 83.9 km to go you see Belkin at the front.
Only one thing to say: LIARS!
https://www.letour.../live/aso/
15:09
Three teams swapping off at front peloton
Belkin, Omega Pharma-Quickstep and Saxo-Tinkoff has riders swapping turns at the front of the lead peloton that is now just 1'35" behind the six stage leaders.
15:11
Seven Belkin riders at the front
The front peloton is now dominated by the Belkin team. There are seven from the Dutch squad now working with riders from Omega Pharma-Quickstep to try and keep the splits in the peloton open.
15:15
Six lead by just 20"
Niemiec, Gene, Perez, Lemoine, Boeckmans and Maté earn one last mention... because they are about to be swallowed up by the first peloton that continues to be led by Belkin.
15:25
Rojas in the lead group...
The dominant teams in the front peloton are Omega Pharma-Quickstep, Belkin and this two squads are insisting with the pace setting but Saxo-Tinkoff has a number of riders – including Contador – tucked in just behind. Rojas (MOV) is another sprinter who has made the front selection.
15:29
Valverde with flat rear tyre
There are four Movistar riders out of the lead group after a puncture for Valverde.
So you are saying the person doing the official Tour updates is a liar as well? Belkin had been on the front for at least half an hour already when Valverde punctured and were still mentioned a few minutes before the puncture.
Every Belkin rider and director being interviewed says that creating echelons was their tactic of the day, which is logical since they have a great squad for it. You think this is an excuse they came up with after the puncture?

If you admit it that Belkin did started to work when Valverde stopped, i accept it. But people are lying saying they were already at the front. Movistar will want their pay back.
About the decision of Movistar to drop Costa, 9th in overall, that really got me mad, he posted this on Facebook:
"What a bad day. It was a step to forget. Hoping for better days for the whole team. We are together @Movistar_Team".
As a portuguese i don't want a worker like Jose Azevedo who made 4th and 6th on the Tour and had to wait for guys like Galdeadno when he could go. But Rui Costa is very grateful to Valverde and Movistar. |

Did anyone ask him if he'll just focus on the Vuelta now, and stage wins etc. here now?
I reckon he has a good shot for the Vuelta.
Edit: Yep it was stupid for Costa to drop, but you've got to remember, they probably expected to get back to the peloton.

They just wrote
"In cycling, a few days playing laughing and jumping with joy. In others, like today, have to learn from mistakes, lick their wounds, recover physically and morally and return to fight to prove our worth. It has lost a lot, but much to gain. Proud of you, both the good and the bad. ‪ # TDF ‬" |

I had driving lessons, I followed the stage when there were 40 kilometers left, so I don't know. Just saying if Belkin did ride it's only fair because that is the Tour and Movistar and all other teams would do the exact same thing. |
