But they dropped it on NBC at like the 28th pick, right after they announced the pick was traded.
BTW Code, how do you still have the old ESPN Bottomline layout. They changed it on my TV.

Not just that, an NA-goalie aswell, don't like that pick at all.... i do like the that we traded down later though... 89 for two pick in the 4th round.
Looks like we're thinking defence this year. A bottom 6 Center in the 3rd round then with #104 we go with a 6'5 225 lbs D-man..

Its your weakest area in terms of prospects.
Too bad Demko and Nedeljkovic were taken before you. Those look like the two clear class in terms of goaltenders in the draft. Halverson is pretty good as well though. He's apparently a larger Marty Turco. If he is ever a starting goalie, look out for him to lead all goalies in assists.
Speaking of Demko, so happy to get him Not a fan of our later picks, but Benning I think is just being nice and letting the scouts do pretty much all the drafting now, showing he believes in them. Not happy about Vey for a 2nd either. I think we overpaid that.
Why the hell did we not draft Blake Clarke

Any opinions on the Polak for Gunnarson and a 4th trade?
And as for our end, I don't know why we drafted so many centermen and so few D-men. I mean, we never ran out of centers this year, right? Just looking at the lines for next year, and our defensive depth looks quite shaky. Interesting.
Can't wait for July 1st though.

Polak is better than Gunnarson and I dont see how this improves St Louis at all. I suppose it might be Cap related but I am not sure of either players contract.
Detroit will love Larkin who could be converted to the Wing and your 7th round picks are absolute steals. Holmstrom will be good and Kadeykin has upside.

Gunnarson is worth $3.15 with 200k retained, while Polak is only $2.75, agree, don't see how this helps St. Louis.
And aren't our late round picks always steals
Larkin is a nice pick, being a Michigan guy and all, but after that you've got to think we've got enough forward depth already.
Also, apparently Spezza turned down a trade to Nashville. Shame, because with a healthy Rinne they would be serious contenders again.

You can never have enough depth except maybe goaltending (unless your GM decides to trade both your starting goalies in the span of a year).
Zetterberg is old, Alfie is old (if he returns). Franzen has a bad contract until his final 3 years, which aren't for another 3 seasons still. Datsyuk is old. Weiss is also on an awful deal and locked up for a while still. So a couple of your fringe prospects will have to step up now or next year, and that promotes the guys you've just drafted to the top of your actual prospects list.
And I dont know Spezza alone makes Nashville a contender and I think Neal was a result of the Spezza deal falling through. Otherwise I think those two could have been a real tandem. But who would Nashville have dealt back? Forsberg, Fisher and the rights to Del Zotto maybe?

Well what I read was that they had a deal in place already, may be mistaken

Yep, Spezza didn't waive his NTC but Im saying, its possible Neal was only brought in because Spezza didn't join. Neal is better anyway, and was Plan B for Nashville.

Would have much rather had us taking Jonas Johansson with that pick, Brynäs goalie coach is world class... |

Personally i think it's a really weird deal by Toronto, Gunnarsson is the first D man they find that can actually play with Dion, they tried so many before him and none worked. I also hold Gunnarsson at the same level as Polak, Polak does have some offensive potential though which Gunnarsson lacks but i think it it a good trade for them. Jackman is dropping off alot and they need a stay at home guy to play 20 minutes with Shattenkirk, Gunnarsson is a proven guy that can play heavy minutes. |

Gagner for Purcell.
Not a bad trade at all for Edmonton. Gagner was always going to be moved, and Purcell is a nice veteran fit on the Oilers. Maybe he'll be able to find some of his game from a couple years ago again.
As for Tampa, I think they're deep enough at center already. Maybe he'll be converted to a wing and play the second line with Cally and Filppula? Not sure about the situation down there..as after the Callahan extension they haven't got much to work with
Some notable buyouts too

They just used Gagner to get rid of Purcells contract, Yzerman opened up almost $6m in cap space by doing that, interesting to see what he does with it on July 1st |

Actually we lacked more depth at center then with defensemen. Obviously I don't know which prospects are going to pan out but we have at least 3 D-Men that are on the cusp of being ready for the NHL (Ouellet, Sproul, and Almquist/Marchenko) while at center we only had Ferraro and Aubry since Riley Sheahan moved up. (Also Tomas Nosek but who knows where he is going to end up). If anything the Griffins needed the restocking because the Red Wings are taking all their players.

There's quite a few players that can easily take draws and man the center if need be, I feel.

At the NHL level yes, I agree with that. The Wings have plenty of "extra" centers that could fill in. But really they are stocking up on more centers so the players in the AHL aren't forced out of their primary positions.
