I know Farrar isn't exactly the best anymore, but come on man.
Degenkolb? When was his grand tour stage win? Wait, how many pro tour wins does he have? The two Dauphine stages and?...
Honestly, he was never the best
But he also had to have a perfect lead out and in head to head sprints where they have started in the same spot, he hasnt done great.
Basically something has to go wrong with Cav's leadout/sprint.
And Degenkolb has some great results and seems to be good on the hills too! Dont forget 5th at MSR and a great U23 results, as well as a lot of 1.1 wins last season with HTC.

Degenkolb is a good sprinter. He can get over hills and cobbles well. But as a pure sprinter, he is just not with other guys. Putting him in the same catagory as Goss just isn't right.
And about Farrar. Obviously I worded that wrong. I didn't mean litterally the best, Mark Cavendish is still alive. (). So is Greipel and Kittel.

Degenkolb is a SECOND. YEAR. PRO.
He is 22 years old. In a year and a half of being a pro he's won 11 races. That's 11 times what Farrar won in his first 4 years as a Pro. Not to mention They include some big wins, while Farrar's sole win was a win in a small crap race.
Farrar is very good yes, but you're severely underestimating Degenkolb.

Interesting that Cavendish is intending to stay. Going to be a big ask to take the points jersey given crashes and a lack of opportunities hereonin. Maybe with the odd intermediate point or 2 should be interesting to watch - perhaps he should go in a break too |

Rodriguez did well in one of the ardennes classic but I don't believe he was in great shape... I think he will win this Giro easy. |

Aquarius said at the moment. He has a lot of potential, but we're talking about now.

Kittel and Greipel are the only two guys who stand a chance against Cav at the moment, IMO, in a pan flat stage/race. A fit Goss and Dengelkolb come right after those three (which says a lot about what a sprinters roster HTC had).
Too bad for Kittel he is able to get to the line in first group in 10% of stages

I know about another 22 years old who have won 25 races within two and a half years But yeah,Dekengolb is great and i like him much, but to rate as the one of the four riders who can beat Cav now and not listing others who could better, is a bit funny.

I can't really see Goss or Dengelkolb beating Cav' these days, but yes, at the moment, I'd rank Dengelkolb somewhere around the fifth position in terms of sprinting. Not that rankings matter that much anyway, if he's just the 10th, I'll still sleep well.
Farrar ? Two wins in the last 12 months, that hardly makes him a killer in sprints (being a sprinter is also about winning everything that ends in a mass sprint). His problem might be more mental than physical though. |

Goss abandons. Not much of a surprise, but still worth noting.

Degenkolb is good, but his wins came from Picardie, Algarve,Dunkerque when guys like Stybar finished just behind him ,so nothing overwhelming for me
The biggest wins are from Dauphine though, that was sign of something great coming.

Steady climb to the finish, with the last 2 kilometers flattening out gradually to about a 1% gradient.

I've always thought Farrar has excellent positioning, but not quite got the top end speed. So he can get plenty of podiums in the slipstream, but doesn't quite have the kick to beat the best.

50,8 km/h in the first hour of racing, definately not taking it easy today, no signifacant head- or tailwind. |

Cav was at the start today, is he planning to take half of todays stage as training ride as he did before and then retire or is he planning to go on to the other flat stage? |

Quite a surprise. Cav is doing the whole Giro.
"It took me a week to really fully recover and get my legs back again. The guys are really looking after me though; they are keeping me protected throughout the stages which is perfect and I want to go to Milan and win the points jersey."
To me this confirms a bit he will not finish Tour and will try to get the Point Jersey here as a compensation for the Green at Tour. He feels a lot better now so they always make it with the gruppetto till the last day, will be very interesting though, didn't think this would happen.
So apparently he wants to complete the Giro. Surprising, but kudos to him.
