So - 10 hour plane trip + 2 week holiday + 12 hour plane trip on my way home coming up. Already got all episodes of Friends, HIMYM and Friday Night Lights to keep me entertained along with a few movies and a whole lot of books.
But there's room for more, so suggestions are welcome.
Movies: Prefer comedies, including stupid rom-coms. Dislike the usual Oscars movies - it's beyond me how Gravity could win as much as it did.
Tv series: I've officially given up on finding anything as good as Friday Night Lights. So I'll just rewatch it until the day I die.
Books: "Biographies" (in its broad definition - e.g. recently released 'Cycle of Lies' about Armstrong) and behind the scenes-political books. Rarely ever read fiction.

Why didn't we argue Oscars? Oh right, they're pointless. |

I find Community very funny. ALso House of Cards is a behin-the-scenes political TV show on Netflix which is entertaining.
For books, The Years of Lyndon Johnson is meant to be an excellent biography of the way Lyndon Johnson manipulated congress, although I haven't read it personally.

Beacuse best actor won it, so i have no problem with it.
Matthew is really brilliant several last years and he passed DiCaprio already on my best actors list.

Ah Rom-Coms, guilty pleasures Although it was nominated, and won, at the Oscars "Her" is possibly the best film i've ever seen. Not strictly a rom-com but it has enough comedy at the right moments. Really interesting subject matter combined with awesome (if obvious) cinematography and amazing acting.
Older more indie film, "Garden State" from 2004. Has Natalie Portman and Zach Braff (directed by Braff) but is a really good film.
"(500) Days of Summer" i have to include. Also "Adventureland" will make you not hate Kristen Stewart.
Anything from Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki is always worth watching. Most recently "From Up on Poppy Hill" is awesome but anything will be good.
I'll join the recommendations for "House of Cards". I think it's better than Breaking Bad (shock!) and is just really really good.
I really enjoy anything by William Fotheringham and would recommend. Probably won't be as interesting to you but "How I Won the Yellow Jumper" by Ned Boulting is fun. Found a good biography about Tom Clancy recently but can't remember it's name.
EDIT: Anything about/by/from/associated with the Coen Brothers

Movies: Comedies, the kind of Eddie Murphy and Jackie Chan etc. (I know)
TV: Mainly detectives (Sherlock), some sitcoms like Two and a Half Men (with Charlie Sheen, not Ashton Kutcher).
Books: Thrillers, detectives. Jo Nesbo is probably my favourite author, although I also enjoy John Grisham and Harlan Coben.

For those who also liked it and maybe Scrubs as well: Braff's new movie "Wish I Was Here" premiered on Sundance a few weeks ago and is set to be released in US cinemas in mid-july. Co-starring, amongst others, are Kate Hudson and Mandy Patinkin with guest appearances by Jim Parsons and Donald Faison. Check it out

Since we're talking tv-shows now, I've just gotten into Yje Walking Dead. I think they have some of the better zombies I've ever seen, just smart/dumb enough and fast/slow enough.
Also, Lori is a bitch. And that Korean dude is cool, but after one and a half season I've started hating his confused little ferret face.
