Jesleyh: Indeed. A couple more suspensions and he'll be right up there with Contador Thanks, 2500 is quite a lot, actually
Ollfardh: I wouldn't dare
dienblad: Oh, I didn't realize that was the Grebbeberg, that explains why it was a no-go Maybe we should leave Greipel there in the Zoo
PCM rulezz: Well, things can only start going better now!
sutty68: Indeed, it was a tough build-up to the lead-out and three man was at least one short. Thanks
Jakstar22: Thanks |

Eneco Tour - Stage 3
Well, if this ain't just André's race, I don't know what is! One goal today: winning.
Today's ride was much more calm and we set up an impressive lead-out!
Racing through the streets of Ardooie, I started preparing for the ultimate lead-out for the gorilla!
And there I went!
This time I successfully held off the peloton's finest sprinters. All Greipel had to do was finish it off.
But he failed to deliver...
In the team bus he admitted to have lost his Tour de France form, he's regressing now. So we'll be looking for other options in the next days.

We're all a bit disappointed here today, but at least I did everything I could. I can't blame myself today, unlike yesterday.
Tour of Utah - Stage 1
Sure, there are some hills along the way, but expect a mass sprint today.
I woke up feeling pretty bad. The doc did a check-up, but I don't have the results just yet. All I know is that I have a fever. I thought I might feel better by riding, but it got worse by the kilometer. I spend the first part of the race in the tail of the peloton, fighting to hold on.
When Le Mével took a fall, I wasn't paying attention, and he took me by surprise. I was able to stay upright, but I didn't have the energy to chase back into the pack, so I waited for him.
We both failed to see the possibility of returning to the pack so we took it easy.
In the front of the race, the sprint was being raced! Team Type 1 put in one hell of a performance and took the win with Kocjan!
I got worse during the race and Le Mével was pretty shook up by the fall, too. He quit the race with 60km left to go. I couldn't give up and reached the finish alone.
I won't be starting tomorrow, though. I'm hoping to recover in time for the Tour of Colorado. Going to turn in now, good night!

Maybe the whole eneco tour = murphys law: Greipel who can't win, illness.
I hope Stijn recovers well so that he can shine again in Colorado
Btw. I think Sutty will like the results

PCM rulezz - It's Willy that's ill in America, Stijn is just fine (there are two different race reports in the post)
I also think sutty will enjoy the outcome of that race |

sutty68: I understand you're glad for the results in Utah, but a little sympathy for poor Willy?
Greipel was in excellent shape in the Tour but failed to deliver, now he's lost his form...
PCM rulezz: How dare you? Well, Stijn is the Classic Rider, Tom Boonen 2, Willy is the GC rider, Contador minus the steak 2.
I would've expected to play more PCM on my day off, but I've just finished a nice ride on the bike and I'm going to jam with a mate later, so sorry about that |

Eneco Tour - Stage 4
Considering Greipel's form, I've been given a free role for today. And I planned on making most of it!
Some cobbles, there may be enough to try to breakaway!
I had a plan, and my plan was to stay close to the man in Yellow: Cancellara. I actually ended up having a chat with him, he vaguely remembered me from the cobbled season!
With 50km left to go, I went full gas on a cobbled section, creating some distance between the peloton and a group containing myself, Cancellara and Roelandts.
Roelandts was amazing. I was expecting him to order me to work for him, but he acted like I was a co-leader, we both took turns, equally. On the next cobbles, we went, together!
And still, Roelandts didn't ask me for anything. We exchanged some quick words and got to racing again. Bottom line: we were both going to ride, we won't attack on each other, but may the best man win! Work together until one is clearly stronger than the other.
And then it happened. I'm in a great shape, have been for a while. And on a section with quite some wind, I was riding quite hard. I noticed I was leaving Roelandts! I took a quick look behind but he told me with his eyes: "go!"
Roelandts joined the chasing group, which was quite intimidating for me: Cancellara, EBH, Flecha...
I was giving everything, but I was already dead. I think I died a dozen times today. When EBH launched his sprint, he was so close to me! My gap from 1'20" was reduced to almost nothing in 10km!
I put my legs to the final task of the day, "shut up, legs", and full gas!
And sweet release! An amazing victory, my first in the World Tour milieu, my first solo victory! This is amazing, and so close!
I never thought this at the start of the stage. I made a move on the right moment and held on to the end. What a tough stage, I'll be lucky if I can get out of bed tomorrow morning, my legs'll feel heavy! I've really been sucked dry, but it was all worth it!

I'm so ecstatic right now, I'm not even wondering about the General Classification. I don't expect to be the leader for the rest of the team, now. I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow!
Some nice things I heard from people today after my victory:
Cancellara: I won't forget you after today. Congratulations!
Roelandts: Amazing, Stijn, you just crushed me on the flat road, you're a beast!
Willy (text message): Beautifully done, my friend! Amazing victory! I knew you had it in you!
Team Trainer: Great job, Stijn. You've a wonderful career ahead of you.
I'm really excited, and I can't wait for tomorrow!
Stijn |
