Does it really matter that much? Don't think it's that bad saying his name in Spanish, seeing that he's still a Spanish rider, no matter what anyone says. When they become independent, you can say it's definitely Joaquim, but until then, meh... |

A wrong decision to move up Wiggins if you ask me.
Either they move up everyone during all of Armstrong's Tours, or they don't move up anyone. This sends mixed messages.
the reason they didnt move up people between 1999 and 2005 because they assume everyone was on drugs. the uci want us to think that its not the case anymore, so are promoting people in the more recent races, as if to say theyre clean |

Philippe Gilbert:
- No one will ever take away my WC win, our generation (mostly) is clean.
- His season will start in Argentinia, Australia or Qatar (I hope TDU), he will not peak for RvV, thinks it's too risky, but will peak for LBL. He will also peak for a 2nd WC victory (he can do it) and he'll ride the Vuelta as prep. He's unsure about Giro or Tour, that will depend on Evans and Van Garderen.
- He will change his winter-preparation. Says you can make a mistake, but don't make it twice.
Thomas De Gendt:
- says to ban dopers for life, no mercy.

I think you didn't get what I meant. His name is Joaquim, not JoaquÃn. There's not Catalonian or Spanish version, a name is name, and, unless you're a King, it's not translated to other languages. If he, for some reason, because as you said it happens, wanted to be called JoaquÃn, you'd have a point, but he doesn't.

Well, so this might officially be the first year of my existence I won't root for Euskaltel.
Although it's the UCI to blame, for sure. But still, one or two guys like AG2R or Lotto did last off-season is fine, 8 isn't.
And Europcar isn't going for the spot btw.

As a follow up question, they should've asked Gilbert if they will ever take away his classics wins in 2011. Not implying he doped, I just want to see his reply to that Sometimes journalists should ask more stingy and assertive questions like that in my opinion, it's their job to be critical.
Also, good stuff from De Gendt, as always. How does anyone still not love him? |

Sorry this is getting really off-topic and bordering the metaphysical realm. Just wanna say that in Spain sometimes we call him JoaquÃn, sometimes Joaquim (including the press). He doesn´t give a cucumber about the issue, and he has always shown to be proud of being both catalonian and spanish - in fact in his website he introduces himself neither as Joaquim or JoaquÃn but simply as "Purito"

You are giving this a political meaning which is just wrong. If you go to his website, look what it says in your browser tab: "Joaquim RodrÃguez". Again, translating a personal name is not correct, but whatevs, the world isn't gonna end because of this.

Mmm, it works the other way round, here. First names are free, but there used to be a time (when my grand-parents were born) when people had to have a French sounding first name. That was only for official papers though, as they were called by the Breton equivalent all day long (people called "Jean" were called "Yann" all day long, etc.).
Nowadays people still mostly have French first names, but only those speaking Breton and having independence or nationalist feelings use the translated version.
The only official one still is the one you're registered as. That'd be Joaquim in Purito's case by local laws' logic. |

After that crash in the giro, I'm sure we would all think the same if we were in his shoes

Given your profile pic, it would be strange if you think otherwise. Both these gesture on your pic and this tweet are unsportmanlike in my eyes.
It is not like Ferrari caused all his crashes in 2012...

Maybe Heinrich Haussler would like to have a word or two with Cavendish then.

But you have to admit it was a dangerous and bonehead move unlike most of the other crashes |

It was a dangerous move, but come on. That's a ridiculous statement from Cavendish.
It's not like Ferrari crashed into him on purpose. Perhaps it's time to just let it go?

Neither do I. The arroganse of Cavendish itself will make more crashes next year then Roberto Ferrari. |

Well from what I remember, the pic was aimed at the cycling press who had been having a go at cav. and if i remember rightly, he did take back what he did.
Cav is just a rider who speaks his mind. always has done
