Thanks for the many, many replies!
Wild Dog: I'll try not to forget it when I have some time to play. But basically it's just Team Colombia with Txurruka and Costa
JuanMotr, francopell, freitasPCM: Thanks!
Jakstar22: So far, yes! I don't think it'll affect him much
Stromeon: Thanks a lot! Glad to have you.
sutty68: Thanks, I gotta admit I love riding in that jersey. It's the first time I won the WC and the first time I play with a rider wearing that jersey. It's so great I can only imagine how Gilbert must feel in real life!
the_hoyle: Thanks a lot
Daggen: Thanks for noticing that
TimoCycling: I hope so, too, the competition will be hard! Thanks! |

I'll try to do something tonight. But I can't guarantee anything.
This week will be pretty tough, potentially, so I can't predict anything, but next week I have the week off (I just started and they're taking the week off at school), so I can guarantee at least some reports that week!
EDIT: However, I'll probably update later today, but not about a race, more a structural update. (involving schedule etc...) I'll start writing it but I have to go in a little while so it will be before or after (logically )

Roberto Velásquez: More than just a rider
After the Tour of Down Under, Roberto started to do things that no(t many) other riders had done before. And if we talk about Roberto Velásquez, how can we not talk about the Velásquez Foundation? Or how can we see Team Colombia Coldeportes it is today without him? This chapter will tell you about what Roberto did besides riding a bike.
We will discuss three things:
- The Velásquez Foundation
- Team Colombia Coldeportes
- Tour de France 2014
The Velásquez Foundation
Having started the foundation in the winter of 2013-2014, it really kicked off with Roberto winning the Tour Down Under. The foundation concentrated on poor children in poor areas and countries, and trying to offer them a way out of it, many with sports-scholarships. Between 30-40% of Roberto's prize money went straight into the foundation. He was also on the Board of it. The first months he ran it, but once the season started, he needed all his focus to race, understandably.
Team Colombia Coldeportes
Roberto Velásquez was also a businessman. During the winter of 2013-2014, he negotiated with the organization of Coldeportes about buying the entire team. He partly got what he wanted.
He co-owned the team, but the sponsorship was still mainly Coldeportes. The jerseys and name did not change. What did change was the budget, it increased greatly as Roberto had found many minor sponsors to pool together. He also had a say in the management part of the team, allowing him to offer (the final decision did not lay with him, though) ideas for contracts of potential riders.
In a press statement, he shortly talked about it:
I am extremely grateful to this team. It has given me a life. Before all this, I had no money, no purpose, I had no future. The team sponsored me and has given me all those things. It would feel wrong to leave. I will take this team into my own hands, along with others, and make it one of the strongest teams in the world. Thank you.
Tour de France 2014
Finally, Roberto decided not to participate in the Tour 2014 anyway. He held a minor press conference, early February 2014:
It was not an easy decision. But I feel there is an overemphasis on the Tour. It's the most important cycling event of the year, but in my opinion, the Giro and the Vuelta should be equally important. That's why I decided to take my Rainbow Jersey to those races this year. Of course I dream about winning the Tour, but it will be for another time, if I can win it, that is. I think riding two Grand Tours will give me an excellent training and a great experience. So my new schedule is the following: I will ride Tirreno - Adriatico, the Ardennes Classics, Tour de Romandie, Giro d'Italia, the National Championship, GP San Sébastian, the Vuelta, the Worlds and than Lombardia. I hope everyone has understanding for this decision. I love Tour de France, but this year is not mine to be part of it. |

Well what they said. For me it doesn't matter if he rides the Giro or the Tour. Why? 'Cause he will win both.

Roberto was nice to give his opponents a chance to win the Tour, instead of the Giro and Vuelta. |

Yeah. A cannibal is someone who wins EVERYTHING. Not only mountainous stages and stage races. Also TT's, cobbleraces and so on. Velásquez isn't a cannibal really - not yet.
