Why did nobody mentioned Epke Zonderland, winning the gold medal for the men's horizontal bar??? The first ever male individual gymnastic gold for the Netherlands and he's the only one in the world that is capable of. and daring to, do 3 flight elements in a row. Awesome!!
For those who haven't seen it:

What I don't get is why the Algerian was DQ'd from the games for not racing the 800m while it was perfectly fine for Bourgain to do the same in the Olympic RR.
Double standards by that bunch of corrupt federations ruled by IOC ?
What's funny, is that if he was injured to the point of not being able to complete his 800 m, how come he was already fit enough to win the 1 500 ?
Not excluding him but putting him to rest for a couple of days instead would have made more sense, but eh, spectators are so stupid that nobody will notice, isn't it ? |

It's waaaaaay more complicated than that.
To make a long story short : the difference between actual males and females are very difficult to establish. Of course there's the gynaecological difference, and there Semenya is a woman.
But if you look at hormons level, or DNA, there's like - damn, I'm not sure, I read the article a dozen of days ago- 10 or 30 % of males or females that are actually from the opposite sex, according to their DNA. Which means that some males (people with a penis) have XX sexual chromosomes, whereas some females have XY (normally it's the other way round, doh). Even better, some get trisomy there : XXY. On an unrelated note, I remember from my biology lectures that those are more prone to extreme violence.
Still, that'd be too simple again. All genes don't always express themselves, even with the "wrong" chromosomes. So, a woman like Semenya had males hormones level that were much too high for a female. Of course this can result from doping, as males hormones are efficient for women, but the opposite is not quite true.
To find a solution, the IOC decided that hormones level would be checked for every one, especially special cases like Semenya, and analysed by a board of specialists, to say if it was natural or not. No thresholds have been established yet. If I understood correctly, Semenya is undergoing a hormonal treatment that brings her hormonal level closer to those of a "normal" female.

There's a bit of a discussion in Holland about the jury for the dressage. Apparently the Dutch silver-medalist Cornelissen did a flawless kür (don't know the English word), but the gold went to British rider Charlotte Dujardin, who actually made a clear mistake during her kür. Normally you'd expect the gold to be going to Cornelissen then?
Now I haven't watched it, so I don't know everything, but I wonder if anyone else seen it.
