Project 1T4i - Bye, bye!
Alakagom
God, what a awesome story Pelli Wink Smile

First, awesome formatting of pictures, putting them in panoramic view. Love it to bits Smile Have a lot to catch up though Pfft

What that is an awesomely strange Tour. Kloden challenging Andy Pfft Where's Conta ? Crash or didn't come ?

What a ride by the Rabo guys. And to be honesy I am spechless - I think you are proud of your home rider Pfft Who would have taught, 7th so far is epic for Lofkvist Smile

And to see Huguet there ! Great job Skil and Pelli Wink Hope you keep it, though will be hard if Kloden rides well in Alps.

Good luck in upcoming races, and I need to catch up a bit Pfft

@Alakgom: Contador was injured without crashing in the Aubisque stage report is on previous page Wink

I though Skil - Shimano was just an ordinary bunch of dutch and german wannabee good cyclists with and awfull looking jersey...
But you Pellizotti, Made me love that jersey and riders! Great story keep it up! and maybe one day you'll come to win Le Tour Grin

but @sam1196 could you explain what is awful about dutch riders?
Guess who's back? Smile

This is looking amazing!

I can only repeat what Alakagom has already said.

Your screenshots are amazing! (I think the best) And the certainly this is one of my favourite teams. So now that I'm kinda back again and with the real cycling season only a few anticipation filled weeks away, I hope I can follow this.

Wow, thanks a lot for the nice words. Very glad to hear you like the story. A special thanks also for liking the pics. Takes some more time to do the reports that way, so it's nice to hear that it's appreciated.

And yes, it is a pretty weird Tour so far. Klöden has been very strong and it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up on the final podium. Same for Andy. And as you said, Löfkvist is doing brilliantly so far. I haven't really noticed him a lot, but he's always been in front.

Finally, another big thank you for all the positive feedback!

Thanks a lot to you as well. Comments like these are always very much appreciated, and it gives me a motivation boost.

Thank you very much! It's very nice to hear that you're following, and even nicer to hear that you're enjoying it as well.

Also, it feels great that the King of Screenshots likes my ones. Wink

Available riders list coming up any time now.

List of available riders

I've of course not included all riders without contract, as I want to keep the team realistic. Therefore I left out top riders like Klöden, Van den Broeck and Gilbert, as we don't have the economy to afford any of those anyway.

Top class riders:

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/feillu_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/feillu_02.jpg

Feillu really showed his strength in the Tour, where he won three stages before crashing out on stage eight. His ability to survive smaller hills makes him a very useful sprinter, especially on harder flat stages and uphill finishes. He's a bit expensive, but could lift some of the pressure from Kittel in the mass sprints.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/fuglsang_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/fuglsang_02.jpg

Fuglsang seems to have had enough of backing up the Schleck brothers in the Tour and now wants to get the chance to try being a team leader himself. Strong climber and good timetriallist, in other words - a perfect stage racer. He'd also cost us a fair bit, but could be very useful in week-long races, the Ardennes and in the Grand Tours.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/vansummeren_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/vansummeren_02.jpg

After spending years with the Garmin team, Vansummeren now wants to try something new, and just like Fuglsang, get a bigger team role. Being a very decent allrounder, he could be of great use to us on almost every terrain. Especially on the cobbles, where he'd take our already pretty strong squad to a new level. Both a team leader and a helper in one - great deal.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/vanavermaet_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/vanavermaet_02.jpg

Van Avermaet has developed into one of the absolute best hilly riders in the world, now ready to lead a team in the Ardennes Classics. He could be useful both there, on the cobbles and in the sprints. He's not on top level in the latter two, but could still strengthen our squad a lot. As with the ones above, the big problem is his decently high wage.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/boom_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/boom_02.jpg

Who could possibly fit better in Skil than Lars Boom? Leader for a Dutch team, with the possibility to do pretty much what he wants. He'd give our cobbled season team a big boost, and could also be a perfect leadout man for our sprinters. And perhaps above all, he'd become one of few good timetriallists in the squad, which I think will be necessary if we promote to WorldTour.

Cheaper alternatives:

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/dumoulin_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/dumoulin_02.jpg

Dumoulin would be an almost equivalent addition as his compatriot Feillu. They're very similar type of riders, one step below top level sprinters with the ability to do well on hillier stages too. Dumoulin lacks the same kind of top speed as Feillu, but has shown throughout this season that he shouldn't be underrated, being one of ContiTour's best riders. Definitely worth the money he'd cost.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/larsson_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/larsson_02.jpg

While Fuglsang offers strength in the mountains and decent timetrialling, Larsson offers great timetrialling and pretty good climbing. The tall Swede is also more of an allrounder, making him useful on flat, cobbled and hilly roads as well. Imo maybe a better deal than the more expensive Fuglsang.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/coppel_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/coppel_02.jpg

Another climber alternative could be Coppel. He would strengthen us on the same parts as Fuglsang and Larsson, but would also bring in youth to the team. He is predicted to become the next French superstar, so maybe we should secure him as future GT leader and top climber? Definitely just as good as the other two.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/burghardt_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/burghardt_02.jpg

On the cobbles, Burghardt and Vansummeren are pretty equal, but the cheaper German lacks a bit of climbing compared to the Belgian. It doesn't really matter though, as we'll be bringing in a climber anyway. Therefore Burghardt would still be a good addition, as he'd also be a perfect sprint train locomotive, and also a bit of strengthening in the time trials.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/maaskant_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/maaskant_02.jpg

If we want to keep the team as Dutch as possible, then Maaskant might fit better than both Vansummeren and Burghardt. He's weaker pretty much everywhere, but would still be a good locomotive, cobbles leader and stage chaser. Cheapest of them, but also weakest.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/martens_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/martens_02.jpg

For the hills, Paul Martens would be a great bargain. A strong classics rider, timetriallist and sprinter for a very low price. Also perfect for stage wins out of breakaways, with his hill-sprint combo. One of the best deals available, imo.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/devenyns_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/devenyns_02.jpg

Otherwise we could go for Benelux, and for Dries Devenyns. A very surprising victory in Flèche Wallonne showed his strength, and with strong secondary stats as well, he's according to me a very underrated rider. He has the talent to do well in the Ardennes, but he never gets the chance in a big team like Quickstep. Therefore I think he'd be perfect as leader in Skil.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/vanemden_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/vanemden_02.jpg

Another rider I'd really like to see in Skil is Van Emden. With our desperate need of timetriallists, he'd be perfect, being both Dutch and a strong TT-ist. Or actually a great prologue rider, good enough to win smaller stage races by just taking the prologue, as he has shown several times this season. One of our main targets.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/posthuma_01.jpg
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/posthuma_02.jpg

If we fail on Van Emden, then we'll go for Posthuma. I'd gladly take them both though. Same kind of riders, with Van Emden being the stronger in the short prologues, while Posthuma is stronger on most other things. Okay climber, good classics rider and decent cobbles helper. Can it get better?

Blot is a must sign. After all he is the PCM.daily rider of 2010 Pfft

And Coppel would be good too!

I think if you build a team around your sprinters, and then bring in a few climbers/punchuers/lead-out men, you will have a very complete team!

Van Avermaet, Coppel, Burghardt and Posthuma would be nice to ride for Skil. Wink

Indeed Coppel and Posthuma would be nice, but Martens is always a good sign Wink And maybe Larsson as he is a good all-rounder! But, it's your choice to decide of course

Quick question: Looking at all your brilliant results, I wouldn't be surprised if you were on the way to promotion? In that case the likes of Klöden or Van den Broeck would be reasonable targets imo.

Otherwise, I'd say Fuglsang, Larsson, Martens and Posthuma. Feillu and Coppel were good choices as well.

Coppel and Fuglsang. Or perhaps Feillu.

Thinktank
I would recommend you Paul Martens and Gustav Larsson. Both seem to Be Be pretty humble in terms of money, but they bring you a Lot in hills/mountains/tt's. If you'd buy from the saved money Marcus Burghardt or Guillaume Blot or Marcus Fothen you have a Great helper too and probably the best that you can get with Little money!
Go Skil!Smile

Thanks for the response.

@ cunego: As you said, we're definitely on our way to promotion at the moment. We're by far the best ContiTeam in the CQ Ranking, so we've most likely already sealed our place in the ProTour next season. Therefore you do make a good point, however, I'd like to keep the team a bit smaller for another year and then maybe go for a bigger name next season.

And after a doublecheck on some riders' wages, I have some positive news.

Fuglsang, Posthuma and Van Emden were all much cheaper than I thought, with the first of those being even cheaper than Larsson. The other two costs barely anything, which pretty much seals our plans on trying to sign them.

Therefore I'd like to ask you what you think about the climber signing. I think we can afford two of Fuglsang, Larsson and Coppel, so which two should we choose? Coppel is actually the most expensive of them, the opposite from what I first thought, but he's also probably the one with best potential. Fuglsang is the best climber of them and Larsson is the best timetriallist. It's up to you!

Those who I've now decided to try to sign:

Paul Martens
Joost Posthuma
Jos Van Emden
