Tour de Romandie

23rd April 2015

Hey guys!

A big race in my calender. This is the first of 2 or 3 races that show who the competitors for the Tour de France will be. I am here with a strong team and we are expecting to win overall.

So Day 1. An uphill ITT. A big first day. I could either win today or not win. My aim is to win.

Tour de Romandie

29th April 2015

Hello there!

So the Tour de Romandie has just finished. It was a great race overall for the team. After the successful TT in stage 1 we moved onto Stage 2 which was classified as a flat stage.

Our plan was to lead out Cantwell. With around 3km to go our leadout broke up and Cantwell was on his own. Viviani and Meersman got a gap with 2km to go and managed to hold it and take a 1-2. Cavendish came in 3rd. Cantwell managed to hold onto 6th which is a great result for us when we don't have the strongest sprinter at this race.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDR%201_zpstncmu1u9.jpg

The plan today is to get me into the leader's jersey. I am only 24 seconds behind Froome. With 6km to go I made a big attack with Simon Gerrans. We got away and got a big gap. I only need 25 seconds on Froome. I was leading all the way till 500 metres to go where Gerrans sprinted and took the win. I take a strong 2nd and the Overall lead by 22 seconds!!!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%203%20Finish_zpsses3jlli.jpg

The plan is simple today. Work to keep the Overall lead! Well it all went fast at the end. I attacked on the final ascent and I was gone. Brambilla was almost able to catch up but had lost a lot of energy and I beat him in the sprint for the win! I take stage 4 and extend my lead to 1.05 going into the last 2 stages.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%204%20screen%201_zpsfzz1xzoo.jpg

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%204%20screen%202_zpsai5ipqro.jpg

The mountain stage. I only have 1.05 over Chris Froome. It is going to be a hard day today. So it started with Lars Bak and Kolobnev trying to attack. They succeeded and created the 2 man BOTD. This led to my team being on the front basically the entire race. They were on the front until about 1km up the last climb which is when I attacked. I got away and took Froome with me. We would stay together until the very end of the race. We sprinted for the finish and I took the win by a few bike lengths. I now have 1.11 on Froome. Will this be enough to take the win?

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%205%20Finish_zps4ybycowh.jpg

The final stage is a flat 20.2km ITT. I have to make sure Froome does not finish 1.11 ahead of me or I will lose my GC. When Froome crossed the finish line, he was 1.10 behind the winner. I crossed the line 2.11 behinds the winner.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%202%20Screen_zpsxo68b5gt.jpg

It took me a while to do the Math but then I realised I had done it...I had just won the Tour de Romandie!!!

Wow...If that wasn't an exciting ending to a race I don't know what is! I did it! I came out on top! I couldn't have done it without the team. They were amazing throughout the week of racing! Massive thanks to them. This victory is as much theirs as it is mine!

Tour de Suisse

8th June 2015

What’s happening guys!

So we are here in Switzerland about to start racing the Tour de Suisse. I’m really excited for this race. I won the Tour de Romandie last month which was awesome for me! I am one of the best mountain climbers in the world which helps because this race is very mountain oriented. I also have the help of my 2 trusty sidekicks, Benat Intxausti and Aritz Pajaron. Also my brother Dayer Quintana is also here with us. This is going to be a great race and I hope you all enjoy it. I’m going to post all the stage profiles below.

So as you can see there are 4 mountain stages, 2 TTs, 2, flat and 2 hilly. This is definitely a climber’s race. Hopefully with the help of the time I can take a stage win or 2 and win the race overall!

See you guys in about a week when I post an overview of the entire race!

Goodbye

Tour de Suisse

16th June 2015

Hello everyone!

An overview of the Tour de Suisse!

So stage 1 was an 8km ITT to sort out who will wear the leader’s jersey in the first stage. I wasn’t ever going to win so I just rode hard, but not too hard, and I only lost 14 seconds in the end. The winner was Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen. Intxausti was our best rider in 17th place 13 seconds. Pajaron and I were only 14 seconds behind.

So after having such a good first stage we went into the first mountain stage. I was really excited going into this stage as this is my best terrain. So it all started with Dayer going into the breakaway with Kolobnev. This was the break of the day. They did really well. Once Dayer and Kolobnev got to the final mountain Dayer attacked and got a gap on Kolobnev. Unfortunately they only had about 30 seconds on the big peloton. As soon as the favourites attacked Dayer was caught but he kept on riding hard. Now it was my turn to go and attack. Once we had caught Dayer I attacked and got a gap that the other favourites just could not close. I took the win by 43 seconds to Uran and Brajkovic. Intxausti had a great race as well coming in a great 7th place 1.51 behind me.

Stage 3 was a big one. With 1 massive climb within 30km of the finish and a very long downhill to finish the stage off it will be a very fast finale. It started off with Gerrans attacking. Visconti also went on the attack. They stayed in front until the start of the last category 1 climb. At the bottom of the climb Dayer attacked but didn’t really go anywhere. Intxausti knew what to do and got on the front and worked hard. I then attacked but told Intxausti to keep working. In the end we made a large group of 11 favourites. I attacked with 1km to go on the climb and they did not see me again. I took my 2nd win in 3 days. Intxausti takes 10th place and moves up 1 position on GC which puts him in the top 5 which is an amazing place to be as we go into tomorrow’s flat stage.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%203%20Final_zps6fq9ybui.jpg

Stage 4 is the first of many flat stages. We were targeting the win with Rojas Gil. Visconti went into the breakaway today so that we could sit in the peloton and save energy for more important stages. It was a success. Visconti was caught with only 10km to go and then it was time for the leadout. Ridenton set us up at the front. Intxausti then took over and with 3km to go we were in a great position and my turn to do the final leadout. I started the sprint with Rojas Gil on my wheel. It was strong and we made up a lot of ground. Rojas Gil left my wheel with 1.4km to go and went straight to the front. Unfortunately he couldn’t hold on. Goss took a strong win in stage 4!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%204%20Final_zpskza9sohl.jpg

Stage 5 is the 2nd and final flat stage of the Tour de Suisse. Today our plan at the start of the day was to lead out Rojas Gil and try and get the stage win with him. Dayer was sent into the break. He wanted to get the mountain points near the end of the stage. It started with Barta and Dayer attacking and creating the 2 man break of the day. Their biggest gap of just under 13 minutes was a big enough gap to secure the breakaway the win. It was now out of Dayer and Barta. On the 2nd last climb Barta decided to attack and he dropped Dayer. A strong ride from Barta saw him take the win by 1.59 ahead of Dayer Quintana. The peloton came in 6.44 behind with Feillu winning the sprint. Rojas Gil came in 7th meaning Petronas had 2 riders in the top 10.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%205%20Final_zpsmljgfa17.jpg

Stage 6 and we are now back in the hills. I’m going to try today but I am expecting a reduced sprint with the likes of Sagan, Rojas Gil and Bouhanni. The stage starts with the usual breakaway attempts. Visconti was our man in the breakaway. No one was working at all with Visconti so he decided to stop working and the breakaway was brought back shortly after. It turned into a reduced bunch sprint. Sagan decided it was best to go early with 2.5km to go. He got a massive lead and no one was going to take the win away from him! I tried to leadout out Rojas Gil but he dropped off my wheel and was unable to sprint for the win. He finished 17th. 2nd was Albasini and 3rd Goss.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%206%20Final_zpso885ymxu.jpg

3 stages left and we have 2 more mountain stages. Today is one of them. 205km of flat, hills and mountains! Dayer Quintana was the first rider to attack. He has been targeting this stage all week. His breakaway companions are Cancellara, Luis Leon Sanchez, Serry and Hansen. At the bottom of the final HC climb Dayer lifted the pace and started to drop his companions. With 1km to go on the climb he was by himself. Cancellara wasn’t far behind, but not even Cancellara could catch Dayer who held on for his first victory with the team!! I came in 5th only 1.16 behind Dayer. I was with Uran and Betancur. A great stage for the Quintana brothers today!!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%207%20Final_zps7lheg9ug.jpg

A stage classified as hilly but with only 2 hills, one at the start and one within the last 10km it could be a sprinters race however I am expecting attacks from the other favourites. Pajaron got into the morning break which contained 6 riders. They quickly got a massive gap and we didn’t want to work hard as no one in the breakaway challenged my GC. They got away and stayed away. It was Stetina of the Garmin-Sharp team that took the win. Pajaron could only manage 6th. In the peloton Betancur attacked on the final climb and I followed as well as Gesink, Intxausti and many more. We got away from the peloton and I took the sprint for 7th place. Only one stage to go!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%208%20Final_zpsqqucvryz.jpg

Stage 9 is a mountain TT. 27.3km in length I am the favourite to win. I am going for the win to just make sure I confirm my overall win. It was a big fight between the GC favourites. Betancur was leading until I went over the line and beat his time by 4 seconds and took the win in stage 9 and the overall classification!

Tour de France

29th June 2015

Here it is...The big one!! The Tour de France has arrived!! 21 stages to go now and we are all at the start line. Tension is rising between the sprinters, GC contenders and breakaway contenders. Team rivalries build as some team leaders are yet to be decided. Injuries could happen at any moment and a change in leadership may be needed. Anything can happen in this race. This is the Tour de France!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/The%20Team_zpsbb7l1owi.jpg

We have brought a rather strong team here. I am the leader at the start with my right hand man being Benat Intxausti as usual. Capecchi, Dennis, Dayer and Pajaron are also here to help me in the hills/mountains. Rojas Gil is the leader with on the flat sprint stages as well as stages that could end in reduced sprints. His main leadout men will be Reeker and me with the help of Dowsett, Pajaron and Intxausti to construct the leadout. This is a strong team but will it be enough to help me win the Tour de France in 2015?

Stage 1

A pan flat stage where we want to try and start the Tour de France in great fashion. We are going for the win today!

The Race

The first attack of the Tour de France came from Dayer Quintana.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDF%201_zps9wwen6ub.jpg

Dayer was caught with 30km to go after winning both the sprint and KOM sprints.

5km to go now and the leadouts are working hard. I am on the front of our train with Reeker behind me and then Rojas Gil.

3km to go and Reeker is starting to sprint. Rojas Gil is still on his wheel.

With 1km to go and it is Sagan and Cavendish fighting it out at the front.

It’s Mark Cavendish that takes the first yellow jersey of this year’s Tour de France. Today showed the reason why everyone calls him “The Manx Missile”! What a turn of speed!

We wanted the top 10 but with Rojas Gil getting boxed in just before he started his sprint he was unable to get up where he needed to be. Still we are showing early on that we are strong with Dayer now in the first KOM jersey. A great ride from him today! We have 2 hill stages and then a TTT so a very exciting next few days!

Just keep an eye on Froom, and do your very best, you can make it !

Tour de France

30th June 2015

Well stage 2. Yesterday was Mark Cavendish. Today we have a hilly stage that will most likely end in a reduced sprint. Hopefully Rojas Gil can improve on his position from yesterday. I will just try to stay with the favourites if they attack today.

Stage 2

Large hill in the middle and one more hill only 10km from the finish. Will be a big finale.

The Race

The breakaway forms early on with 3 riders Le Lay, Nuyens and Dayer.

Betancur had the winning attack after attacking and dropping me on the final climb. He had a great win that was well earned!

Nicolas Roche came 2nd and 3rd is De Gendt. I managed to finish in the peloton and lost no time!

That was a very hard stage! It was fast and I just lost so much energy and most of my team mates. In the end I only had Eros Capecchi and Rojas Gil. Hopefully we can improve over the course of the Tour.

Tour de France

1st July 2015

Stage 3 is more of a hilly stage then yesterday. With a large hill only 14km from the end a strong puncheur/climber could win and attack. Otherwise it will end in a reduced bunch sprint.

Stage 3

Tactics today, don’t lose time.

The Race

The final downhill, only 12km to go and still a large peloton. Only Rojas Gil and I are still at the front of the peloton. Dumoulin has a gap of 20 seconds.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDF%201_zpskadanybm.jpg

1km to go and Rojas Gil is contesting the win with Sagan and Dumoulin.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDF%202_zpstbdi5p5f.jpg

A very close finale!! Rojas Gil passed Sagan and Dumoulin and was leading. Meersman was coming very fast in the final 200m and got within inches of victory but Rojas Gil was always going to take this stage!

A great finish for us in Stage 3 of the Tour de France!
