@sutty68: I was very honored to receive the trophy but it was also thanks to my team mates that I was able to do that.
The season has almost started, Santos Tour Down Under is beginning tomorrow, I still don't have any contract and I'm feeling kind of depressed. I went in Franche-Comte to see my parents, I needed that. I also moved from Netherlands to North of France so I can still ride cobblestones when I go training even if I don't have the motivation to ride a lot this days.
My parents are really helping me in this difficult situation and my dad as he is also my agent is talking to many teams asking for a spot in their squad. I'm starting to lose hopes for this year. It would be a shame after all the things I achieved last year .
And finally thanks to my fans who are sending me kind words, that's really nice of you .

It seems impossible that no one would give Anthony a contract

@welker3257: the fact that almost every team had already finished their recruitments was not helping
@SSJ2Luigi: The other teams were interested in me before I re-signed with Giant (which apparently was a mistake).
@sutty68: Things can sometime not go as according to plan
After days of searching, I finally received a call from Martial Gayant asking me to take the first plane to Spain. It appears that FDJ.fr still had a spot left in their squad due to the leaving of the World Champion Nacer Bouhanni to IAM Cycling.
I was summoned to Majorca to join the Classic Squad already there for a training camp. As I arrive late in the team, I won't be able to ride the Tour of Qatar with them but instead I'll start my season in the Tour of Oman.
This is such a good news for me and in my favorite team this is almost a dream. The contract they gave me does last 1 year with possibility of prolongation. I'm not selected for the Tour de France yet but if I prove I worth a spot there, then they will took my selection into consideration.
Concerning the Classic I will have to share the races with Yoann Offredo, Matthieu Ladagnous and Arnaud Démare. I shall also ride the Ardennes Classic but nothing has already been decided.
More news about the Training camp soon

@the_hoyle: Thanks for following the story I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writting it
@sutty68: I think secretly I was hoping for a call from them and they did, I'm really ultra motivated for the season especially as I only signed for one year.
Santos Tour Down Under

Training in Spain
After the conversation I had with Martial Gayant on the phone, I immediately book a plane for Spain, I was really exited about getting back to FDJ. The riders in the training camp, I knew them well, I already raced with them, so the adaptation was not hard at all.
There were five of us who made the trip to Spain : William Bonnet, Arnaud Démare, Matthieu Ladagnous, Yoann Offredo and I. It was most about getting back to a high pace and long ride session than training but it was cool to be back on my Lapierre bike (customized for my French Champion Title).
We rode easily during the first days and then we upped the intensity to prepare for the spring classics. The average length of our rides was about 180 kilometers. And with an average speed of 35 km/h. The rythm was not too hard for me and I think I'll be ready to take some important positions in the Tour of Oman which will be my first race.
And finally, we discussed about my planning for the season, they really listened to my desires so I shall once again ride all the monuments of the season.

@SSJ2Luigi: yep many of my former team mates are still here, especially my mates from Franche-Comté like Pinot, Vichot, Mourey and Viennet.
@sutty68: it looks like I will have a lot to do in the first part of the season
Before going to the actual racing, I will just post the squad of FDJ.fr for the 2017 season:
NAT | NAME | AGE | 2016 | | BONNET, William | 34 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | COURTEILLE, Arnaud | 27 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | DELAGE, Mickaël | 31 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | DIAZ, Edward | 22 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | DéMARE, Arnaud | 25 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | ELISSONDE, Kenny | 25 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | FISCHER, Murilo Antonio | 37 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | GENIEZ, Alexandre | 28 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | JEANNESSON, Arnold | 30 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | LADAGNOUS, Matthieu | 32 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | LANDA, Oscar Emil | 23 | Neo Pro | | LECUISINIER, Pierre-Henry | 23 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | LEGRAIVE, Marvin | 23 | Neo Pro | | LOUVEILLE, Anthony | 23 | Team Giant - Allianz | | MOUREY, Francis | 36 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | OFFREDO, Yoann | 30 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | PAILLOT, Yoann | 25 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | PEZET, Rudolph | 24 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | PICHON, Laurent | 30 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | PINEAU, Cédric | 31 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | PINOT, Thibaut | 26 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | ROLLIN, Dominique | 34 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | ROUX, Anthony | 29 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | ROY, Jérémy | 33 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | SOUPE, Geoffrey | 28 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | TURGIS, Jimmy | 25 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | VAUGRENARD, Benoit | 34 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | VEIKKANEN, Jussi | 35 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | VICHOT, Arthur | 28 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr | | VIENNET, Emilien | 24 | Équipe Cicliste FDJ.fr |
The established leaders are Thibaut Pinot and Kenny Elissonde for the Grand Tours, Arnaud Démare for the sprints and Arthur Vichot for the Ardennes Classics.
Concerning Flemish Classics, there are Yoann Offredo, Matthieu Ladagnous and myself who are able to deliver a great result. Matthieu already won Paris - Roubaix and he shall target that race again, Yoann still lack some power when it comes to the finish but he could try a long solo break.
And me, I'm more fitted for the Ronde van Vlaanderen, I'm not afraid of the "bergs" and I already won it last year.
Milano - Sanremo will be more about who is still there after 300 kilometers and with Yoann, Arnaud or Arthur we can all pretend to the leadership in that race.
The introduction to the team is now over, and tomorrow I will report the first two stages of the Tour of Oman.

Tour of Oman
The Squad:
Edward DIAZ
Marvin LEGRAIVE
Anthony LOUVEILLE
Thibaut PINOT
Anthony ROUX
Geoffrey SOUPE
Jimmy TURGIS
Jussi VEIKKANEN
Pre-Race:
I come here without much training, my shape is not at its best and I might worked for a GC top 5 from Thibaut. There are some stage I still could try something like in the 2nd and 5th ones but this will only depend of my legs.
This group was the one who shall go to the Tour de France latter in the season, this also mean that I have to show some things to prove I'm worth a spot in the squad for July.
Race Report:
I won't make big reports for each stage but a big summary of what happened in the 6 stages.
The first stage was designed for sprinters, and it was Matthew Harley Goss (OGE) who took the victory, Anthony Roux (FDJ), and Geoffrey Soupe (FDJ) both made a top 10 taking respectively the 5th and 6th position. I ended at the 54th position without trying anything in the finish.
The profile of the second stage was much more interesting as there was a small hill 6 kilometers from the finish. With Anthony Roux (FDJ), we accelerated the pace in the uphill section, no one was able (or tried) to follow us and we started the downhill with a interesting gap.
We both sprinted for the victory but he was faster than me. This stage led to the leadership of the race by Anthony Roux (FDJ) while I was sitting in second position.
The third stage was much easier than the 2nd one and this time I did the sprint. I still don't have the level and the condition to beat the World Top Sprinters but I still get a top ten by ending at the 9th position.
Mark Cavendish (TEL) was the winner of the stage.
The fourth stage was, without hesitation, the queen stage of the race. Ending on top of the Green Mountain, the fight for the Leadership was made right on the slopes of that ascent. Some tried to attack at the footstep of the climb without many success as the riders of Astana Pro Cycling were really imposing a very fast pace.
While Edward Diaz (FDJ) and Jimmy Turgis (FDJ) were staying with Thibaut Pinot, I was making the efforts to stay in touch with the main group.
Thibaut attacked few kilometers from the finish with other riders which led him to take the 4th position. Rein Taaramae (AST) won the stage and was the new leader of the GC. I was surprised by performance as I managed to stay in the main group which end 33" after Taaramae. That meant that I was second in the GC.
The fifth stage was all or nothing, I had few seconds to take to take the leadership of the race. The road was narrow, the climbs were really hard so I attacked in a downhill. I was followed by few riders but Taaramae, the race leader was somewhere behind unable to close the gap.
Gianni Meersman (TEL) won the stage solo and I arrived in the second group. At the end of that stage I was the new leader of the Tour of Oman.
The sixth and last stage was ours to control, the jersey might well be on my shoulders at the end of the day as it was meant to end in a sprint.
Every thing went perfectly and this time in the finish I had Anthony Roux (FDJ) to led me. I was not able to fight against Haussler and Meersman but the 3rd position was a real satisfaction.

The season could not have started better for me , It gives me so much confidence for the upcoming Classics, I hope I'll be able to get a top 3 in at list one monument this season if not win one.
The team is still very friendly, I'm feeling like I never left them and for the cohesion this is perfect.
I apparently made a great impression to Marc Madiot so this race will also play in favor of my participation to the Tour de France.
My next races are already the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne. I might play the role of team mate in these races but it will also depends on the shape of the others riders there.

@sutty68: Thanks, I did what I had to do and I got rewarded for that
@SSJ2Luigi: A GC win somewhere I was not waited, I did not thought I could make it in the Mountain Stage.
Omloop Het Niewsblad
The Squad:
William BONNET
Arnaud DéMARE
Matthieu LADAGNOUS
Marvin LEGRAIVE
Anthony LOUVEILLE
Yoann OFFREDO
Cédric PINEAU
Dominique ROLLIN
Pre-Race:
It's been a while since I last ride cobblestones, and I was starting to miss it. Today it will be about Matthieu or Arnaud. I shall have a free role but if one of my leader is in trouble I will have to help him.
Race Report:
Our team took its responsibilities as we had one of the race favorite. William set up a quite high speed on the cobbles sections so we could have a advantage on our opponents.
There was also the fact that Sep Vanmarcke (BEL) was at the front with Damien Gaudin (EUC).
We were doing most of the job at the front so we asked some other teams to help us but none reacted to our request so instead of riding for them, Dominique went on the attack so we could have some rest inside the main group.
Before the last cobbles section, everyone was back in the pack. A group of 4 riders including Heinrich Haussler (OGE), Matthieu Ladagnous (FDJ), Peter Sagan (EMI) and Alexander Kristoff (BMC) went off the pack with a very high speed. There were about 38 kilometers to go, but this guys looked like they were still very strong.
When I realized that I was the only FDJ.fr riders left in the chasing group, I thought maybe I could do something if we were getting back on the leading men.
Of course I did no job in the chase as my leader was at the front.
We eventually got them back and a group of 10 riders was now at the front with 25 kilometers to go.
With 5 kilometers to go, Heinrich Haussler (OGE) made his move, no one was able to follow him and as I was not as fresh as Matthieu, I took the lead of the group to bring him back. The only problem was that the other riders were not really helping me ine the chase.
And finally as predicted the Aussie Rider took a great win in front of Peter Sagan who came back on him like a bullet in the last few meters.
Matthieu only managed to sprint for the 5th position while I was ending at the 7th one.
All in all this was a good race for us even though we could have hope for better.
Tomorrow is Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne and it might go as well as today especially as I feel quite good and the performance of William and Arnaud were quite impressive today even if they did not make the top 20.
