Bernie will be there to help him to the finish, protecting him throughout the stage
Next reports will be tomorrow. Off to a comedy night tonight, so no time to play the final stages. You will have to wait a little longer for Paris

@Rogvi: I know he meant that, I was just saying that Man City crashing out of Europe after all they have spent on the team is fun as well
@Ian: Yes, there is the Grenoble ITT before Paris. Its a carbon copy to the ITT in the Dauphine that Tony Martin finished strongly on against many other GC rivals. But after 19 days of racing, could be a very different outcome...

Well, at least it won't be the hardest stage for Mark, no time limit, just let him have some fun and enjoy the scenery in that TT! |

22nd July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Modane - Alpe-d’Huez)
The final Mountain stage of this year's Tour. After today, there is just the ITT in Grenoble, and then we reach Paris. It's one final 'hurrah' for the GC men, and the final time the sprinter's will need to pray they come home inside the time limit. But what a final stage it is... The infamous Alpe d'Huez lies ahead of the peleton, on the one of the shortest stages of the 2011 Tour de France.
With just 16" in hand in the Maillot Blanc classification, Tejay will have to be on his toes all day, making sure he defends it going into the ITT tomorrow.
3km: The attacks happened as soon as the flag dropped, with Dani Moreno (Katusha) and Jérôme Coppel (Saur - Sojasun) making the first moves.
7km: Damiano Cunego (Lampre) and Robert Gesink (Rabobank) soon set off in pursuit of the two breakaway men, and soon built up a nice lead out front.
15km: At the Intermediate Sprint, I comfortably took 5th place, meaning that my points lead was increased to 35 points. The Jersey is almost mine...
39km: Climbing the Galibier, Cadel Evans attacked for the second stage running. After a poor first two weeks to the Tour, he was wanting to go out with a bang! His attack was closely countered by Jurgen van den Broeck (OmegaPharma).
46km: The peleton steadily paced themselves up the climb, and Leopard seemed happy enough to let the break go.
48km: Reaching the top of the Galibier, the breakaway had 4'32" over the peleton, and with a long descent to come ahead of the climb to Alpe d'Huez, it looked set to be an exciting finish!
93km: Coming through Bourg d'Oisans, the gap was down to 2'56", as both Leopard and HTC upped the pace.
99km: And we begin the climb to Alpe d'Huez. 13km long, 21 hairpin bends and averaging 7.9% in gradient. This is where the 2011 Tour de France is all but confirmed for the GC men.
103km: With 7km to the finish, the break was down to 3. Evans, Gesink and van den Broeck remained, as the others just could not handle the high pace the three men set.
104km: Realising that Gesink was becoming a threat to the Maillot Blanc, instruction was given for Tejay to attack...
109km: Sadly, all Tejay's attack did was tire him out, and led to nothing. Back at the front, it was between Evans and Gesink for the win, with Evans looking the stronger...
110km: And he duly took the win. Two wins in two days for the Australian. Gesink finished second, and van den Broeck finished 3rd. Andy Schleck extended his overall lead on GC to 1'58" over Sánchez, but it was a bad day for HTC. Tejay lost his Maillot Blanc to Pierre Rolland by 6", with Gesink right on his tail, whilst Mark Renshaw missed the time limit by 1'32" and was forced to withdraw from the race.

23rd July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Grenoble ITT)
The final day before Paris tomorrow, and a 41km Individual Time Trial is what lies ahead for the remaining 148 riders. Tony Martin convincingly won this stage in the Critérium du Dauphiné back in June, but with 3 weeks of racing in the legs, it could be anyone's victory today.
Just 6" separates first and third in the Race for the White Jersey. Tejay is the strongest Time Trialist of the 3 riders, but has been struggling at late, so it will be a tight race against the clock.
0km: On the start ramp, I was nice and relaxed. I was not going to be pushing myself too hard, with my thoughts on Paris tomorrow.
14km: At the first checkpoint, Lars Boom (Rabobank) had set the fastest pace, and I was just 34" behind him in 4th.
27km: The second checkpoint came after a long climb, and I had lost time to Boom, slipping down to 9th place, 1'06 down.
41km: Crossing the finishing line, I had made a little time on the descent, crossing it in 6th place.
The stage was eventually won by Cadel Evans, who astonishingly makes it three wins from three! In a mixed ITT for van Garderen, after a strong start, he lost too much time in final 10km, losing out in the Race for White to Gesink in the end.

@Sutty & Ian: 2 stages down... only Paris left The report will be up in the next hour or so
@Max: Despite his best efforts, and bettering Rolland, he loses out to Gesink still finishes with a top 10 so that's a good result.

I actually thought that Boasson Hagen would have secured a top five finish in that time trial |

He finished 13th. Looking at his profile, he has now ridden 64 days, so his race fitness will be on the decline.

Thanks TMM! I think I made the wrong decision attacking on Alpe d'Huez. Looking back in hindsight, he would have gap more time not attacking and staying with the other GC men.
