Stage 2, 160km long, from Salida to Crested Butte takes the riders over the Monarch Pass (alt. 3448m). It's finish is on top of Mount Crested Butte, at an altitude of almost 2900metres above sea level.
img26.imageshack.us/img26/5509/1route.jpg

Charles Wegelius (UHC) and Alexandre Blain (Endura) are the 2 best climbers in a leading group, and are the first ones on the summit of the Monarch Pass. The other members of this BOTD are Bram Schmitz (Veranda's), Geert Steurs (Topsport), Rui Vinhas (LA-Antarte) and Marc Hester (Christina Watches). They get a maximum lead of almost 10 minutes, before the long final climb.

When the final climb to Mt. Crested Butte has started, Wegelius and Blain drop the others, but the peloton is coming closer. With 14km to go, their lead is brought back to 5 minutes.
img840.imageshack.us/img840/2661/414km.jpg

After 2 more kilometres of climbing, while the lead is 4'16, Andy Schleck attacks out of the chasing group and quickly decreases the gap to the leaders.
img11.imageshack.us/img11/1857/512km.jpg

Of course, Schleck closes the gap and leaves them behind to take the win on the Mt. Crested Butte. Rory Sutherland (United Health Care) finishes in 2nd at 3'30, Saxo Bank's Chris Anker Sorensen 3rd at 3'39.

Stage 3 is the queen's stage and brings us from Gunnison to Aspen (210km) over two monstruous passes: the Cottonwood Pass (alt. 3686m) and the Independance Pass (alt. 3696m). The last few kilometres of the Independence Pass are on gravel roads and after that climb, the riders face a 32km descend to Aspen.
img854.imageshack.us/img854/2228/profiel3i.jpg

Marc de Maar has a shot today at the KOTM-points and takes the points on the summit of the Cottonwood Pass. Together with Dario Cioni (Sky), Peter Stetina (Garmin) and René Mandri (Endura), he gets a 3 minute lead over the peloton.
img836.imageshack.us/img836/3839/3is2.jpg

Cioni and De Maar keep the pace high in the leading group while climbing the Independance Pass. Cioni is the first to cross the line for the KOTM-points and has a small gap to De Maar. 1 minute behind are Stetina, Mandri and Andy Schleck, who easily bridged the gap to the 2 slower members of the BOTD.
img847.imageshack.us/img847/9665/612km.jpg

De Maar takes a lot of risks in the descend to Aspen, and closes the 29 second gap to Cioni. He settles in the wheel of the Italian, but isn't able to outsprint Cioni. A great first win of the season for Cioni. Schleck finishes in 3th place at '20. Cioni also takes the lead in the KOTM-ranking (32 points), followed by De Maar (30) and Schleck (29).

Stage 5 from Avon to Steamboat Springs is almost flat. This 133km long stage will probably end up in a mass sprint.
img849.imageshack.us/img849/7969/profiel5.jpg

In the beginning of the race, Marc de Maar won the only KOTM-sprint and thereby overtook Dario Cioni in the KOTM-ranking. Tomorrow, he can wear the polka-dot jersey!
img231.imageshack.us/img231/162/1kotm.jpg

The stage does end up in a mass sprint. Our sprinter Marcel Kittel was too far behind to have a chance at the win. It is United Health Care's Robert Förster who takes the win. It's his 9th of the season, next to 7 (!!) stages and the GC in the Tour of Qinghai Lake). Kris Boeckmans (Topsport) gets 2nd and Kittel ended up in 3rd with a great last jump.

Stage 6 brings us from Steamboat Springs to Breckenridge. This 170km long stage features the Rabbit Ears Pass early in the stage and the Swan Mountain and final ascending kilometres to Breckenridge in the last part of the stage.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/640/profiel6.jpg

After Marc de Maar took the most points at the Rabbit Ears Pass, a group of 3 riders jump away and take a 7 minute advantage. Jonathan Clarke (United Health Care) is the first on the Swan Mountain, followed by Gaspare Boscolo (D'Angelo) and Bram Schmitz (Veranda's).
img707.imageshack.us/img707/1706/3kotm2k.jpg

With 10km to go, Schmitz has been dropped, the pace of the other 2 was to high. The peloton is still 3'48 behind, but closes in quickly, more than 2 minutes in the last 4 kilometres!
img810.imageshack.us/img810/4954/410km.jpg

With 4km to go, the lead is only 1'31. And the fact that GC-leader Andy Schleck attacks out of the chasing group, is a bad thing for the chances of the 2 men up front.
img809.imageshack.us/img809/5775/74km.jpg

Schleck easily closes the gap tp Boscolo and Clarke, and drops them immediately. He take shis 3rd victory in this tour.

The 7th and last stage brings us to Denver. The stage consists of 11 laps on a 12km circuit, with some climbing in it.
img200.imageshack.us/img200/3166/profiel7.jpg

A group of 9 riders form the BOTD, and the peloton doens't feel like catching them. To give a few names: Fumiyuki Beppu (Radio Shack), Jack Bauer (Endura), David Beily & Will Routley (SpiderTech), Yannick Eijssen (BMC) and Geert Verheyen (Landbouwkrediet).
img820.imageshack.us/img820/2986/1botd.jpg

The peloton is only 1 minute behind, when the last 3km have started. Andy Schleckgoes for a fourth stage win and attacks out of the peloton. But is it still on time?
img818.imageshack.us/img818/659/2andy.jpg

No, he is just too late. Yannick Eijssen (BMC) take sthe win, his first of the season, and also Jack Bauer (Endura) finishes in front of Schleck, who manages to get the third place!

Yep, I like it! Although I could get 5 instead of 3 stage wins, I think. The stage won by Cioni, I didn;'t let Andy ride at his maximum (to get De Maar the win) and with an earlier attack in the last stage, probably also....

But the field was pretty weak. Andy has 83 in MO, while the 2nd best climber had 76 or something like that....

Back to the Vuelta a Espana! The 10th stage is a 42km long ITT with start and finish in Salamanca. The route is almost flat, so the small climbers have a big disadvantage.
img580.imageshack.us/img580/9578/10perfil.jpg

Garmin - Cervélo's David Zabriskie is the first rider who finishes within one hour. His 58'42 will be the 3rd time of the day when all the riders have finished.
img692.imageshack.us/img692/7656/1zabriskied.jpg

Rubén Plaza (Movistar) rides a surprisingly strong ITT and finish in the 4th overall time: 58'45.
img24.imageshack.us/img24/598/2plaza.jpg

For those that are curious about the results from our riders: Poels 33rd, Westra 36th, Sagan 38th, De Greef 45th, Ruijgh 58th, Vanendert 77th, Zingle 139th and Bos 151st.

Back to the good time trialists. Denis Menchov lost a lot of time in the beginning of this Vuelta, but his form is increasing. He rides a great ITT, and is '7 faster than Zabriskie. 2nd time today in 58'34.
img11.imageshack.us/img11/8089/3menchov.jpg

To the top 5!
Ezequiel Mosquera is the number 5 of the GC and has to ride one great ITT to get on the podium like last year. Today's ITT isn't bad and isn't good: 29th at 3'23.
img694.imageshack.us/img694/8329/4mosquera.jpg

Luis León Sánchez got the opportunity from his team Rabobank to focus on the Vuelta, so the former Spanish time trial champion is in an excellent form. He sets the fastest time in the first section, '23 faster than Zabriskie!
img853.imageshack.us/img853/7038/5lls.jpg

Here is one guy that hates time trials.... Purito manage to minimize his loss and finishes in 37th position at 3'32.
img821.imageshack.us/img821/3825/6rodriguez.jpg

Damiano Cunego lost his red jersey yesterday, and wants to stay as close as possible to Gesink. With the 12th place at 2'20, he can be very happy!
img98.imageshack.us/img98/3747/7cunego.jpg

Robert Gesink rides this ITT in the red jersey and has a good start. He rides the 4th time in the first sector!

Luis León Sánchez extends his lead and is '48 faster than Menchov at the 2nd split time. It looks like he's going to win this ITT!
img841.imageshack.us/img841/4932/9lls.jpg

Robert Gesink continues his great ITT and stays in 4th position at the 2nd spli time. But his legs are burning already...

Luis León Sánchez also extends his lead in the last sector and wins this ITT in a time of 57'26. He is 1'08 faster than the number 2 Denis Menchov. It is his 2nd win of the season, after a ITT in the Critérium International.
img849.imageshack.us/img849/1439/11lls.jpg

Robert Gesink cracks a bit in the last sector, but is able to finish in 5th place. A great result and he extends his lead.

Word from the DS: We are very hapy with the performance of Robert Gesink. We hoped for a top 10 ranking, but the 5th place is extraordinary. But this Vuelta isn't over, there are some very difficult stages coming up.

Hey guys, the season is coming to it's end a bit (2 months of cycling to go) and I'm not sure what to do with the transfers and teams that quit irl. I think I'll change HTC to Greenedge and do something with Omega Pharma & Quick Step and Leopard & Radio Shack, but what do you think? Should I keep the most transfers close to what happened irl (eg Cancellara to Radioshack/Nissan/Trek, all the guys to Green Edge, etc.) or to what happens in the game? Please let me know. This is also the reason why I haven't posted transfer news so far.

Nice and expected dominance by Schleck in USA Challenge.. with such a weak startlist, it's pretty tough to NOT dominate such a race Wink

Nice job by Gesink also.. He's definitely in very good position for his first GT-win!

Transfers: Personally, I like some changes from season to season.. if you want to add/edit those teams, you will have to keep it realistic automatically Wink But I would not change/edit every single transfer made by the AI-teams though.. if you know, what I mean Wink

Gesink won the Giro so it will be his second GT win Wink
I think you not should make it real. Btw, great story! Grin

I also think you should make it real but also Don't change anyone from your team Grin

Good TT by Gesink!

About the transfers: change some teams (HTC->GreenEdge, Omega->Lotto, Quick step-> Omega pharma quick step) but don't change any transfers. It's PCM you're playing. Those strange transfers make it more intresting.
