1.1 – Coppa Sabatini
As a preparation for Lombardia, Sagan and his fellows take part in a couple of races mostly in Italy. The first two are the Coppa Sabatini and the Giro dell'Emilia.
The field was relatively weak, Sagan's main rivals were Markus Eibegger (Tabriz) and Luca Mazzanti (Farnese Vini). The first successful break established not before the first climb, but Farnese Vini and we took over the control in the pack immediatly, and the advance never got bigger than three minutes.
A nine men group broke free on the last climb, and they were joined on the descent by four more. An empty Simone Ponzi was there as well as a good looking Peter Sagan. From that large group, three riders escaped on the flat part to fight for the win: Peter Sagan, Tom Stubbe (Donckers Koffie) and Bartosz Huzarski (NetApp).
Sagan was by far the best sprinter and took the win easily. Stubbe and Huzarski were caught by the sprinting chasers where Simone Ponzi scored the tenth place.
Result
1 | Peter Sagan | Liquigas – Cannondale | 3h57'18 | 2 | Uros Murn | Adria Mobil | s.t. | 3 | Alexandre Blain | Endura Racing | s.t. |
1.1 – Giro dell'Emilia
The concurrence was not much higher at the Giro dell'Emilia either. Mazzanti was there again, as well as Pierrick Fédrigo (FDJ) and Domenico Pozzovivo (Colnago).
A strong five men break including Tom Stubbe and Domenico Pozzovivo dominated the race being in front most of the time, but together with Farnese Vini, we controled them and the advance never got really big. On the first of the last three climbs, some favorites including Peter Sagan attacked and reunited with the escapees forming a nine men group.
Soon, some of the riders couldn't keep up anymore. Seven riders – Sagan, Muto (Miche), Van Hecke (Topsport), Fedrigo (FDJ), Mazzanti, Giordani and Failli (all Farnese) – fought for the win. Van Hecke attacked with three kilometers to go, Sagan followed, soon overtook him and scored another win. That guy is unstoppable. Farnese Vini placed three riders in the Top 5.
Result
1 | Peter Sagan | Liquigas – Cannondale | 3h57'18 | 2 | Francesco Failli | Farnese Vini – Neri Sottoli | + 30 | 3 | Pasquale Muto | Miche – Guerciotti | + 35 |
Sagan shows great shape for the upcoming Giro di Lombardia with his fifth and sixth classics win.

now thats a comeback after the worlds for sagan
i love the team changes: nokia, samsung and especially t-mobile - a GERMAN team i wonder who could be their leader for stage races in a few years... but seriously a transfer to tmobile some day would be reeeally cool

Sagan as incredibly as in real.
Very well done.
And Nerz to T-Mobile would indeed be a superb transfer in 1-3 years. |

@ tsmoha: Lombardia will be the real test. Those small classics are kindergarden against that
@ johannes-w: Yep, Sagan disappointed at the worlds... Still he is great under my controle And glad that you like the new teams, I'm really pleased with them as well.
@ roturn: Of course I had the future in mind when I made that sponsor change. And I hope that I will continue this story long enough to see him in magenta Still, his contract lasts for two more years and he owes Liquigas a lot, so at the moment, it's not very likely that he will leave them before. But you never know, do you?
By the way, I'm currently working on the 2012DB and as I have plenty of free time at the moment, I hope to finish it this week. The final reports and reviews are already written, so I think there won't be a big gap between the end here and the new PCM11 beginning.

@ FreitasPCM: Nah, I like PCM11 better. And nicer screens as well
@ Avin: Thanks I think it's funny how some German words made it into the English language (kindergar ten, rucksack, zeitgeist, just to name a few). control (e) was just a typo

1.1: Paris – Tours
Two more short classics until Lombardia.
Paris – Tours is, concurrence wise, a whole different thing than the classics before. From Philippe Gilbert over the new Liquigas signing Damiano Cunego til strong hilly sprinters like Heinrich Haussler or world champion Allan Davis are a lot of world class riders present. Sagan has to show what his former wins are worth.
The first part of the race was pretty unspectacular, the break of the day was caught early. On the last small hill, Peter Sagan followed Philippe Gilbert's attack and a rather large group of favorites was created. With 5 km to go, Matthieu Ladagnous (FDJ) attacked, and again, Peter Sagan countered as well as Sylvain Chavanel.
Sagan created a little gap and started the sprint early. Chavanel and Ladagnous weren't able to stop him, the latter even got overtaken by Jerome Pineau. Simone Ponzi came in second in the sprint of the peloton behind Tom Boonen, finishing 17th.
Result
1 | Peter Sagan | Liquigas – Cannondale | 5h12'16 | 2 | Sylvain Chavanel | Quick·Step | + 21 | 3 | Jerome Pineau | Quick·Step | s.t. |
1.1: Milano - Torino
Back in Italy, the field is a bit weaker again but still good enough: Purito Rodriguez and Rein Taaramäe are Sagan's main rivals. Can he perform his fourth victory in a row?
The race was characterized by strong winds, and the field split quite often and no break was really established. The decisive split was created on the final hill, where a 18 men group got loose from the pack. For Liquigas, Peter Sagan and Simone Ponzi were present there.
In the sprint, Liquigas and FDJ were predominant. For a long time, Anthony Roux led, but Simone Ponzi had the legs to overtake him on the last meters. Sagan finished fourth.
Damiano Caruso broke his shank bone and won't be able to participate in the Giro di Lombardia.
Result
1 | Simone Ponzi | Liquigas – Cannondale | 5h12'16 | 2 | Anthony Roux | FDJ | s.t. | 3 | Matthieu Ladagnous | FDJ | s.t. |
If it's not Sagan, it's Ponzi. Liquigas remains unstoppable.

Thank you both. I hope it's not too boring to see me winning everytime^^ But Sagan is just great atm. The sprint finishes with Ponzi are a bit trickier, but still it works quite fine^^
Here's the preview for Lombardia, the race is coming up tomorrow.

Giro di Lombardia – Preview
The last big race is on today, and you'll be able to follow the last live ticker of the year – the last brief race report will follow tomorrow with the Japan Cup. But first of all, here's the preview for the Giro di Lombardia!
The race
The last of the five big cycling monuments is again one for the puncheurs, the hilly riders. The first half of the race is rather calm with only one hill. After a two-hills combination at about the half of the race, the decisive part will begins within the last 70 km. The steep Madonna del Ghisallo is followed by the Colma di Sormano. After about 20 flat kilometers, the San Fermo is the last obstacle in front of the finish in Como.
The Contenders
As usual, the Giro di Lombardia is a late highlight for all top puncheurs. The densitiy of great riders is very high.
Gilbert is beyond question the best puncheur in the world. He is the top favorite for today, still his 85 race days might be heavy in his legs.
The Kazakh was close to Gilbert in the Ardennes, finishing third in both Amstel Gold Race and La Fleche Wallonne. He's aiming to beat him this time and his big plus might be his shape: With 64 race days, he should be better off than Gilbert.
Damiano Cunego
With his third in the WCs, Cunego showed a good shape. Also, he has the home advantage on his side and wants to leave Lampre on a high note. As Gilbert, he has the high amount of 89 race days.
Peter Sagan
Fränk Schleck
Joaquim Rodriguez
Team Liquigas
Peter Sagan is our undisputed leader and aims for a top placement after his great recent performances. Due to Damiano Caruso's injury, we have a special replacement for him: Though not being in a great shape after the Vuelta, Ivan Basso agreed to make the Giro di Lombardia his Good-Bye-Race for Liquigas. He stated that he is grateful for the opportunity and will do everything to support Peter Sagan.

1.PT: Giro di Lombardia
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the last highlight of the season, the Giro di Lombardia. I'd like to remind you that it's a goal race for Liquigas as they promised their sponsor Nalini a Top 5 here – which should be Peter Sagan's goal anyway.
Km 5: Not surprising, the first attack comes from an Italian: Colnago's Angelo Pagani searches the media spotlight.
Km 15: 9 riders are a bit more than a minute out in front, let's see if they succeed to stay free...
Km 21: They don't. Who's going to make the next move?
Km 38: Sky's Morris Possoni led solo for a couple of kilometers but never got away further than a minute and is reeled in early on the first ascent.
Km 40: The Italians are the most active riders here. Marco Pinotti makes his move, will the pack let go such a strong rider?
Km 46: At least for now: A nine men group around him leads over the top with 1'45, but still the attacks from the pack don't stop.
Km 53: Too many riders got to the front and the pack reeled in the 17 men group. We start again...
Km 65: Initiated by Michael Morkov (Saxo Bank), a five men group including Marko Pinotti and Jack Bobridge leads with about 3 minutes to the pack. Three riders are a minute behind them.
Km 69: The three chasers around Haimar Zubeldia (Shack) caught up with the front.
Km 118: The escapees start the climb in the middle of the race with an advance of seven minutes. The climbing abilities differ a lot and we probably won't see all of them crossing the top together.
Km 132: I was wrong: The group stayed together, but pays the tribute – the advance shrinked to 5 minutes.
Km 153: The front group enters the next, not very steep ascent and the advance keeps decreasing...
Km 154: We have a first attack from the pack: Bauke Mollema gives it a try. Do they plan something special for their captain Carlos Barredo?
Km 187: Mollema is 1'30 in front of the pack, the original escapees are a minute further in front. Meanwhile, we can see Peter Sagan joking around with Ivan Basso in the pack. He seems to be in tremendous shape.
Km 198: The escapees hit the very steep climb up to the Madonna del Ghisallo. They won't last long.
Km 200: Omega Pharma, Katusha and Lampre are the teams working in the pack.
Km 202: And their work comes to fruition – the break is caught and the carpet is rolled out for the battle of the favorites.
Km 206: The pack slowed down a bit and comes relatively complete over the third to last ascent.
Km 227: With 26 km to go, Alexandre Vinokourov opens the battle for the win! Peter Sagan follows along with Cunego and Fränk Schleck.
Km 230: It seemed to be the right move: They establish a lead of a bit more than a minute while Katusha is working to bring them back. Omega Pharma is nowhere to be seen – Gilbert doesn't seem to be very fresh anymore.
Km 232: Was I mistaken? Along with a couple of other riders, Gilbert attacks and tries to close the gap to the leaders!
Km 234: While Gilbert and his companions come closer, Fränk Schleck seems to have problems to follow Peter Sagan's high pace.
Km 236: Maybe he can recover on the descent. They still have 40 seconds to the 15 men group around Gilbert, in which the likes of Andy Schleck and Joaquim Rodriguez are present as well.
Km 241: Gilbert himself does the pace in the chasing group but they didn't get closer on the descent. 12 km to go!
Km 243: Rodriguez attacks to close the gap himself. Simon Gerrans tries to follow.
Km 244: On the last ascent, Rodriguez is really close to the leading four. Has he enough energy left?
Km 245: He has, and he's not the only one - quite a lot of riders from the chasing group made it to the front now. 10 men lead together.
Km 245: That's enough for Peter Sagan. Along with Kolobnev, he makes his move!
Km 248: His efforts split the group but he didn't really get away. 7 riders will fight for the win, and Sagan is the best sprinter among them!
Km 252: The sprint begins and Sagan has a great position behind Alexandr Kolobnev. Can he take the win?
Km 253: No he can't. Kolobnev takes a both surprising and deserved win. And behind him, Purito even overtakes a tired Sagan to make an incredibly impressive 1-2 for Katusha – the second in a big race this season after Gent – Wevelgem. Sagan keeps a very good third.
Km 253: Taaramäe is today's surprise finishing a great fifth while Leopard keeps on disappointing with Andy Schleck on 7 as their best rider, one place in front of Philippe Gilbert.
Result
1 | Alexandr Kolobnev | Katusha Team | 6h30'45 | 2 | Joaquim Rodriguez | Katusha Team | s.t. | 3 | Peter Sagan | Liquigas – Cannondale | s.t. | 4 | Alexandre Vinokourov | Astana | s.t. | 5 | Rein Taaramäe | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | s.t. | 6 | Simon Gerrans | Sky ProCycling | s.t. | 7 | Andy Schleck | Leopard – Trek | + 19 | 8 | Philippe Gilbert | Omega Pharma – Lotto | + 29 | 9 | Jens Voigt | Leopard – Trek | s.t. | 10 | Pasquale Muto | Miche – Guerciotti | + 36 |

Too bad Sagan couldn't overtake Kolobnev, maybe the last attack costed him too much energy...
Anyway, great season!

Really thought you take it, but podium in a monument is great. |
