Gent - Wevelgem
I start today as the race favorite. Two reasons why:
1. I won E3 Prijs.
2. Both Boonen and Cancellara are not here today. They both have minor problems and want to rest up to be back for RvV.
The breakaway of the day consisted of 19 riders, so they didn't get much freedom from the pack.
The cobblestones did what they're there for: they broke up the peloton in many, many pieces. I was cautious enough to stay at the front. Roelandts was less lucky.
After the cobbled sections, we were heading towards the finish with a group of about 30. Hushovd was still in front of us and he was holding us off excellently!
I placed myself in Peter Sagan's wheel. It looked like the best option, because he is extremely fast and has probably survived the cobbles better than other sprinters that were still present.
And there was Hushovd! At 1km left to go, Sagan was going strong, I was with him and Hushovd was giving his all but was tired out from his solo.
I was able to cross Sagan, who had started his sprint a bit too early, I think (must be the inexperience).
I was also able to go past Hushovd!
I don't realize what this means yet, but I did it again!
I now understand how Gilbert did it in 2011. When you're on a roll, you're on a roll! It's hard to explain, but it's like you float through the races and it seems obvious you will finish it off!
Now, I'm not saying I'll do the quadruple here, but I think I'm not done yet, I still have lots and lots to do this season. So I'm warning Cancellara, I'm warning Boonen, you got yourselves some competition! And this is what you're up against next week:

I'm ready for The Ronde. Although I'll be a favorite, alongside the two great, I'm aiming for top 5. Anything in that area would be awesome! Because, let's face it, the Ronde is not Gent - Wevelgem. the Ronde is not E3 Prijs, the Ronde is not even those two combined... The Ronde is legendary.
In other news: Jelle Vanendert did well in his preparation for the hilly classics. He came in 7th in Cataluña!

Those are some great victories, Beating Cancellara in a cobbles classic is something not easy to do. Cheers |

@all: Thanks a lot!
@Schleck96: Cancellara is a very strong opponent, I was lucky he wasn't present in G - W!
@daggers81: He came around just in time, lucky for him
@baseballlover312: No, they're no longer neopros. (I thought you were only neopro the first year you are a professional rider, or can you be neopro longer?)
@Jesleyh Thanks, however, a real classic/monument would be even greater!
@PCM Rulezz: I hope you're a bigger fan of Van Gent than of Boonen in this thread
@JuanMotr: The hills are always where his red and yellow bar decrease drastically. So let's hope for a good daily form and some luck!
@Marcellus51: Thanks, he'll need it
@sutty68: It certainly is. It only took a single win to turn things around completely.
Coming up later today: RvV!

Ronde Van Vlaanderen
Has it really been a year since I last raced here and finished 5th? That day I got an excellent result, but I didn't get it 100% fair. So today I was looking to get a better result in a better way. No doubt Cancellara will be looking to defend his title, so I had a hard task ahead of me, as Cancellara took the GC win in De Panne tour. He's in a good shape!
Ian Stannard was in the breakaway group, which took the pressure of chasing away from us.
It promised to be a very tough Ronde, as the race opened 132km from the finish. The peloton broke and Roelandts' Ronde was already practically over.
I stayed close to Boonen and Cancellara, as we climbed the Kwaremont for the first time of the day.
With 50km left to go, the front group existed of Ballan, Gilbert, Cancellara, Breschel, Flecha, Boonen and myself.
Cancellara had too many team-mates with him so I had to do something about that. I accelerated on the Kwaremont (2nd time we were there today).
Several riders came back and it worked out just as I wanted, only Spartacus' team-mates were left behind. Now it was every man for himself.
But my acceleration had taken its toll. First Breschel dropped, and then I dropped on the Paterberg... Was this Ronde over for me?
After a chase of about 10km, I join them at 2km left to go. As they were preparing for a sprint, I realized that I had no energy left. The chase had taken up all my energy. Despite that, I got ready for the sprint, too.
It was obvious from the start of the sprint that Boonen would take the win home.
And so he did!
As expected, I hadn't the energy to finish it off. I finish 4th, which is still better than last year, and I did it much more beautifully.

Only 51 riders finished the race.
I look back on this RvV with a good feeling. I know now that I have it in me to win this thing one day. Last year I got some great results in the cobbled races but the difference with this year is that I make the race now. I don't just follow.
But I still have to win my first real classic, so let's see what Paris - Roubaix brings us. But first:
I'll see you in a couple of days, for De Scheldeprijs!
By the way, a small but nice fact: I have now the same UCI points as I finished with in the 2012 season. So I need one more point to do better, and I've plenty of time and races left in 2013!

@ste_18: To beat Boonen in a sprint after such a race is very hard. So 4th isn't that bad, thanks
@JuanMotr: Normally it should. Smelling anything yet? |

Scheldeprijs
I'm not here to compete for the win today. I'll be dropping out of the peloton as soon as it gets nervous for the sprint, since I don't want to risk crashing out for Paris - Roubaix.
So instead I worked hard today, I rode 30km in front to reel in the breakaway.
After my work was done, I went to the tail of the peloton.
We had an impressive sprint train today, with Willems, Stannard, Bak, Roelandts and Renshaw.
And it was Roelandts taking the win, congratulations! Another one for the team.
I cross the line a little behind the peloton. I did my job today, and now I'm looking forward to Paris - Roubaix.
See you in Paris!

With a 4th place in the overall and a 2nd place in the queen stage in the Basque Country, Jelle Vanendert seems ready to take on the hilly classics.

RvV was a nice race, and yeah I'm still a fan of Boonen () but of course also of Van Gent. I hope to see an nice battle between them on the velodrome in Roubaix
Nice win for Roelands btw
