Shame about the crashes in final stage.. even though it's good news for Geox, as it looks like both Duarte and Cobo will jump in GC, right?

Vuelta a Espana: Full Results and Review
Igor Anton wins his first GT after a great fight with Menchov. The Basque was clearly the strongest on all rasing sections in the first part of the Vuelta. The Russian striked back though, and he did it in style. Winning the long timetrial and taking back 3' on Anton. The rest of the Vuelta turned out in a great fight where both Anton and Menchov proved to be very strong. Very remarkable is that the Russian never gave up and keeped on attacking. The fight for the later position's was also great but a crash on the last stage saw Mosquera, Herrada and Sioutsou all drop some places.

David De La Fuente won his first KoM-jersey in a GC. Finally, as he fighted a lot for it. His quest was hindered a bit by a crash in the last week but he fought back strong and attacked a lot to beat the GC climbers.

Young Rider's Classification
Fabio Duarte finished 5th in the GC and was clearly the best rider under 25 in this Vuelta. He took the jersey on stage 4 after a great showing on the Sierra Nevada and never looked back. His first opponent eventually finished 21' down, a great achievement.

After all, this was a great Vuelta for the team. Too bad Menchov finished 2nd behind Anton but the Basque was just better. It's simple. We can be happy with 5 stage wins, the KoM- and U25-jersey and the Team ranking. We proved we belong to the top level of cycling!

Duarte finishing 4th is quite familiar for me It's a great result for him, of course.. and Geox did very very well here! Menchov was awesome, with only Antón being a bit stronger.. KoM is also a nice achievement.. for your "overall job" here!

I think, overall, it was a fantastic Vuelta, two in the top-5, three in the top-10 and one in the podium, plus KoM and youth jerseys and the team rankings... Pity you didn't win the GC, but Antón was in another level. |

Great overall result. Anton was at his own level, so still a great performance from Menchov.

World Championships: Time Trial
As always, the Professional World Championships start with the time trial.
Copenhague - Copenhague
46.3 km
The course for the time trial is 43.6 km long. The race takes the riders around and through the Danish capital Comenhague. The course is almost completely flat so something for the real specialists.

The big favourite is ofcourse Fabian Cancellara, 3 times defending winner. Tony Martin, the only rider who treathened him this year isn't even here so it looks like an easy ride for the Suisse. The fight for the podium is open though with a lot of riders of the same level. From the 4 Geox-starters, only Menchov can have aspirations.
Micheal Rogers was one of the first riders to start. The three time champion (2003-2005) became a better stage racer the last couple of years but lost some timetrialing punch. His time isn't great.
1h1'46"
David Millar was the initial 2003 WC TT but had to give his title to Rogers after a positive test. He came back clean, fighting against doping and sets a good time today.
59'27"
Denis Menchov recently finished 2nd in the Vuelta. He took the timetrial there and he has a secret hope for the podium. He rides good but not good enough.
1h0'18"
Cadel Evans is a strong timetrialer but hasn't raced much since he won the Tour de France in june. His time shows his form is weak.
1h1'33"
Adriano Malori improved a bit over the season and was by some tipped to be a dark horse for the podium. He is still young and has a lot to learn so his team isn't really strong.
1h1'30"
Gustav Larsson became 2nd in the Vuelta TT behind Menchov. He was 2nd on the 2008 Olympic TT and the 2009 WC TT. He is a world topper and sets the best time so far.
59'14"
Fabian Cancellara is the top favourite and doesn't disappoint. He shows he is from another level beating Larsson with more as a minute. He is now alone record holder with his 4th win.
58'05"

Menchov must be a bit dissapointed with 8th. I had expected a bit better. Nothing was expected from the other riders so no problem with their weaker results.

Sensational results on the Vuelta ... a shame that Denis has been on the verge of final victory. (I know the comment comes a bit late ... but better late than never )
Domain Italians in Canada and, of course, mastery of Spartacus in the World Cup ITT. I agree, though, with my mates ... where hell is Tony Martin?

8th place for Menchov in the World ITT after all his exploits in the Vuelta is still pretty good |
