Doping someone 'right' is a difficult thing, there's a balance to be found.
15 years ago Zülle was crushing everyone at the Giro. Pantani at his peak, Tonkov, Gotti, Bartoli.
Then he convinced a dumb soigneur to inject him with a drug that had worked well for his teammate Dufaux (as in "Dufaux was braking for corners going up a mountain" well).
Zülle finished the Giro hours down on GC.

He will be banned from holding his knighthood in Italy but will get off on the technicality that holding a knighthood in the UK was not a crime at the time.
