No idea if it was Brailsford organizing it, or team manager Sean Yates putting into practice what he's used to (he's a US Postal guy through and through after all), but the results seem to imply it's just the GC core (Wiggins, Froome, Porte, Rogers, Siutsou, Urán, Haedo)

Let`s wait and see for the continuation of the tour then.
I for one highly doubt that there will be a massive doping scandal involving Team Sky |

No one was suspicious about Van Den Broeck in 2010 or Jelle Vanendert winning a mountain stage last year.
Being British I'm gonna have to defend Sky but despite this I have a sneaky feeling about Nibali, I have done since before the Tour started. I actually think Nibali could win the Tour this year.

Vanendert was let go because he wasn't a threat. Plus he hadn't spent 3 km pacing in the wind either.

Quite accurate, from what I can tell. Long in the days when I was still active on Cyanide forums, one of the French guys there was his cousin, and they talked to each other on MSN, every once in a while. Sometimes, the guy would copy-paste the conversations.
Besides the fact that D.M. can't write for shit, his "status" on MSN, really made that brick you compared him to look like the most intelligent thing on Earth. Random example that I still have in mind. His spouse was about to give birth to his first child, but I guess there was a delay in the process, or something. "Itz woont go awt !!!!!!" is the kind of translation I could do from his status, etc.
I like him much as a rider, though I curse his inability to ride at the front, and lack of G.C. ambition. But as man, though I don't think he's mean in any way, he's just a total retard. |

What's a "hero" ? First it's a mistake, in cycling. Think about it. They're not scientist who'll change the world (I guess they know a lot about medicines though, and that has changed their world  ), they're cyclists. Idiots (for some of them), or normal guys, who're much stronger than average when it comes to... pedalling. Heroes ? My arse.
Worst : a hero is more likely to be a cheater than a random pro. He's a hero because he wins either a lot, either big races, either both. Statistically, my point stands.
You want to believe in somebody who's an obvious cheat. People have the right to be foolish, but you can't blame the likes of me for pointing it to them.
There are basically two attitudes towards doping. Close your eyes or talk against it. The whole cycling world did the first until 1998. Now it's split.
Cycling is never going to progress in its fight against doping if we hide our heads in the sand. "We" : fans, amateurs, pros, staff, media, etc.
Clean cycling and clean riders will win big races. They'll ride 2 or 3 km/h slower, but nobody will notice a difference unless being given figures. Those race winners will still become heroes if they've got some charisma.
Pointing at obvious dopers kills cycling ? I don't believe so. |

Also, Cancellara finishing 20th on this stage, beating the likes of VdB, Scarponi, Valverde, Horner, Kloden, Gesink, Basso, etc. Bloody amazing. With a bit of luck and two time trials, he might just get a top 10 at the end. |

Aquarius already answered most of it, so I'm going to add just one more point to what he said:

Make no mistake, that is what Sky this season has been. They've "peaked" for 4 months, being dominant everywhere, putting in Gewiss level dominant performances, after being frankly crap for years, and what changed since then? Oh right, they appointed a team doctor who has been involved in several doping scandals.
I could start pointing out every single little thing if you want.
Let me give you an example of the kind of thing I could be pointing at every week:
There's a certain spanish doctor named José Ibarguren (and caught in a few investigations, most recently the Mantova one) who was at Festina when they were completely dominating world cycling.
Then the Festina scandal happened and he was out of the sport for a while.
Then he came back, joined Lampre, and Cunego promptly won the Giro and Dario Pieri came out of nowhere to nearly win the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Parix-Roubaix.
Then he left Lampre and Cunego and Pieri barely did anything of note again.
He moved to Euskaltel. That was when even Euskaltel's average riders started dominating, with Landaluze winning the Dauphiné, a long past it Aitor González winning the Tour de Suisse, etc. At the end of the year he left the team and those riders stopped doing anything at all
The reason he left is he joined Saunier Duval. That's when Riccò, Cobo and Piepoli's golden years started. Dear god their performances were dominant.
Then Saunier ended, so he was hired by Lotto and Gilbert promptly had that amazing earth shattering season.
For this year he joins QuickStep who had been crap for a few years, and they immediately turn into a completely dominant team in the classics.
Meanwhile the Ibarguren-less Gilbert has gone from a Merckx or De Vlaeminck level dominator, to "just another guy".
I don't point out those kinds of things because they're all circumstancial. And frankly because even all that is completely dwarfed by the extremely laughable transformation that half the Sky team experienced all at once when dopefiend Dr. Leinders was hired.
In short, my point is this: I'm mild if anything. I reserve myself for when something is so completely over the top it literally makes me laugh.
EDIT: But I'm used to being argued with by fans who desperately need to believe that their favorite team is clean.
In the past, that I can remember I've argued that the following teams/riders were not clean:
US Postal/Discovery
Telekom/T-Mobile
Liberty Seguros
Astana
Phonak
Rasmussen
Contador
Di Luca
Saunier
Schleck
See anyone there who wasn't later proven to be doping? I don't either. But every single time the fans of those teams were 100% convinced I was wrong and called me jealous and "a hater". It comes with blind fanboyism, I'm used to it

I agree with Aquarius. I want to watch a cycle race and know that the riders are clean. If that means that they are cycling slower it doesn't matter. It will still be a race if everyone is slower.
As for today, it's hard to tell. Sky set a tempo and Froome got a small gap at the top, but Andy Scheleck or Contador would have got a bigger gap than that. It's not like Froome beat them. |
