Dominik Nerz: Germany's stage racing hope (Ended, next season in PCM 2011)
cunego59
Thank you all very much! It's really great to know that the story is liked.

@ alakagom: Wow, thanks a lot for that hell of a praise Wink Also, congrats to your new story, looks pretty awesome as well.

@ kitface: Glad you like it. I wanted to have at least one new team for next season, and GE was the closest thought. Also, I have already a rough squad for the team, and I really like it.

@ tsmoha: Lots of thanks Smile In fact, Cunego is even better placed in the PT ranking than Basso is. Not in the CQ though.

@ roturn: Yes, I think so, too. At a point, I even thought it might be too strong, but as no one of my riders is overwhelmingly strong and I still will have to fight for decent results, I think it's fine.

@ johannes-w: Nice to hear Smile Regarding the hilly classics, keep in mind that I still have Sagan as well. With him and Cunego, I should really be good at those classics.

For the new season you'll have to wait a bit as I'm still one and a half weeks on holiday. But I still have a couple of posts prewritten. The WCs e.g.

Very nice signing in Cunego. He should bring you lots of nice results during the next season.

Contador and Riis inconciliable

After a meeting this afternoon, Alberto Contador announced that he would never ride for a team of Bjarne Riis again. Riis provocated the dispute with a harsh criticism of Contador's Vuelta performance and obviously wasn't able to fix it.

Contador furthermore said that his Spanish companions Jesus Hernandez, David Navarro and Benjamin Noval would support him and won't ride for Saxo Bank either. All of them are still in contract but stated that they would rather relinquish their wage or even pay a fine than ever compete in a single race for the Danish team.

Bjarne Riis said that he was surprised and very disappointed of that radical decision. He would have expected a bit more of the ability to take criticism.

The Danish has to make his plans without his super star now, who was responsible for most part of Saxo Bank's points in the Pro Tour.

johannes-w
nice twist Smile but the big questions are: where will he go and how will he be replaced??? i guess bjarne has already figured it out by nowSmile
my bet: new team movistar - and van den broeck as a replacement...

roturn
Just let Saxobank go down into CT like in my PCM10 story after I added Team Leopard around most of their riders. Wink

cunego59
Thank you both for the comments. It'll be interesting to see how Riis can handle that. I mean, it's pretty hard to replace the TdF winner and his companions... We'll see.

I just noticed that the other reports that I prewrote don't have the screens, profiles etc in it yet Sad So no more reports from me till about one and a half weeks. Maybe just a bit about the happenings in Saxo Bank...

Saxo Bank withdraws sponsorship - GreenEdge to World Tour

The dispute between Alberto Contador and Bjarne Riis take on a dramatic scale: Saxo Bank decided to withdraw as the team's main sponsor! Riis subsequently announced that he won't be able to form a competitive WorldTour team under these circumstances and that the equipe will relegate voluntarily to Continental Division. Also, he said that he doesn't have the motivation to go to CT and that Bradley McGee will be the new head team manager. He will also take the difficult task to look for a new main sponsor, while Sungard wanrs to remain secondary sponsor.

Due to the relegation, the team will lose some of it's best riders: Nick Nuyens heads to Omega Pharma - Lotto to lead them in the cobbled classics. While the future of the Haedo brothers is still unclear, Richie Porte joins GreenEdge along with Baden Cooke, Luke Roberts and David Tanner. The only important riders who announced to be willing to stay so far are Chris Anker and Nicki Soerensen.

After those events, the UCI finally confirmed that GreenEdge will start in the World Tour next season.

Other teams are affected by the recent developments as well: Frank Schleck, who originally planned to sign for Saxo Bank, will now stay with his brother Andy at Leopard - although his wage was already spent for Igor Anton! But after the disappointing season '11, Leopard's sponsors quickly decided to increase the team's budget to afford all three top class climbers for 2012.

In the meantime, the Spanish team Movistar announced to be close to the signing of Alberto Contador and his companions Hernandez, Noval and Navarro.

Wow, Anton and both Schlecks in one team... pure climbing Smile Will be interesting to see how the team handles this.

Spilak23
Let's hope the schlecks and anton don't have to do a TTT together Pfft

cunego59
Yeah, at first I wasn't sure about that as well, but it was infact the easiest way, without manually changing too many transfers. Also, if you look at the results, they weren't very successful at all, not one of them. So I don't think the team will be dominating or something next season.

roturn
Interesting move. But I don`t think that the Soerensens are brothers. Wink

johannes-w
no i m pretty sure they arent brothers Smile
i really like this between the seasons part - its really interesting... and like i said:

my bet: new team movistar
Smile

cunego59
Oops Grin I just assumed they were... Well, it's not that Soerensen is a very rare name in Danmark^^ So thanks for the hint!

And yeah, Movistar was a good bet Wink

Contador ---> GreenEDGE Wink
Im afraid Basso for Cunego, Kreuziger and Brajkovic will make Dominik not get a many races.

cunego59
@rorczp: No, he for sure won't Wink I don't want to copy tsmoha there, and also he is in very intense negotiations with Movistar. And the DS sees great potential in Dominik, so they will make sure he gets some chances to ride on his one Wink

As you see, I'm back from holiday, here's the next report:

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/it.gif 1.1: Memorial Cimurri

On the way to the Giro di Lombardia, the squad around Sagan made a trip to Italy and took part in three further classics.

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/CT_Cimurri.jpg

The Memorial Cimurri was frequented by some good riders like Peter Velits or Carlos Barredo, nevertheless Peter Sagan was of course one of the top favorites.

Very early, with about 50 km to go, a rather large group of favorites established. Peter Sagan was in there, but it didn't last: With 10 km to go, they were reunited with the pack.

The pack went very slow, so Peter Sagan decided to make another move. With 5 km to go, he created a small gap and held it to the finish. Behind him, Simone Ponzi won the sprint of the pack, making it the third 1-2 for them within two weeks.

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/Flags/it.gif 1.1: GP Industria & Commercio di Prato

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/CT_Industria.jpg

The GP Industria had a very similar profile as the Memorial Cimurri. And again, some good riders like Rein Taaramäe (Cofidis) and Giovanni Visconti (Farnese Vini) were present.

Juraj Sagan was our man in the break, that got caught with 30 km to go. A bit earlier, most favorites including Juraj's brother Peter attacked and built a rather large group in front of the peloton. 7 km in front of the finish, Rob Ruijgh (Vacansoleil), Fortunato Baliani (Miche), Francesco Failli (Farnese Vini) and Peter Sagan broke free from them.

They split again, and Failli and Sagan would sprint for the win. Not surprising, after his recent performances, Peter Sagan easily took the win. He has a run!

i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/cunego59/CT_Manservi.jpg

After two hilly classics for Sagan, a flat one for Ponzi was on. He was among the top favorites along with Danilo Napolitano (Acqua & Sapone) and Michael Matthews (Rabobank).

For a change, we sent Peter Sagan into the break of the day. As it was pretty windy, it seemed possible that it might succeed. But they were eventually caught with 11 km to go.

But another break was created with 7 km to go, and they were successful! Sébastien Turgot and Leonardo Giordani saved a small advance into the finish. Although we had three guys in the sprint, the best we could achieve was a 14th by Davide Cimolai.
