He won it a year ago, but back then, Murcia had at least 1 serious mountain stage.
This year was a dissapointment. (if even Luke Roberts can hold on and win) |

Same route as this year. Collado Bermejo 30kms from the finish, then downhill.
I have the race on video, if you'd like

Or maybe they were terrified of Weening who had attacked?
Anyway, comparing Armstrong's "performance" (if you can call it that) today with his performances at this point in time in previous years, he was beyond awful.
"Better than last year"? Bullshit

I agree, not much improvement. Everyone can have a bay day though. |

It wasn't just a bad day. He was dropped on the climb yesterday when the peloton still had about 30 people.
I should add that, true to his words, he does seem slimmer than he's ever seemed at this time of year. He doesn't seem to have any extra weight at all. Which is awful news for him. If he's this bad when he's slim and fit, he can't possibly be that much better when he gets more training and racing and....other things....under his belt.

Robert Wagner didn't cheer too early today and has won the second stage of the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen, which ended in a mass sprint again.
Results stage 2:
1. Robert Wagner (Skil - Shimano) GER
2. Bobbie Traksel (Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team) NED
3. Jens Keukeleire (Cofidis, le Credit en Ligne) BEL
4. Kenny Van Hummel (Skil - Shimano) NED
5. Nico Eeckhout (An Post - Sean Kelly) BEL
Jens Keukeleire has the lead in the GC. |

Just because he is very slim, he's still far from 100 %. His goal is Tour de France, not Murcia. Last year he was very good in the beginning because he wanted to do well in the Giro. If you think he's close to 100% form, you better think twice Tour de France starts in July, not March |

Yeah but that argument goes the both ways.
You explain bad results as a cause of a low amount training. Those bad results could very well be explained by a low amount of doping as well.
And yes, in these terms, slimness has a direct relation with fitness, so either he has trained more than reasonably or he has developed anorexia

8th Vuelta a Murcia time trial, you consider that bad?
For Lance, it's a great result at this time of the year |

Dropped in a not-that-hard climb from a group which still has 30 riders, plus losing more than a minute in a short TT. Yep, bad results for a guy who wants to win the Tour, whatever the time of the season it is, specially if he hasn't extra weight or if it's not his first race of the season. All the big names but Zabriskie beated him.

I'm very happy to see the South Africans doing well, Hunter with two stage wins, and Impey having some good results.

"bad results for a guy who wants to win the Tour"
In 2001 and 2004 Lance had almost identical performance in March.
And guess who won the Tour those years

No. Both years he did a better result in a stronger field. And also I doubt that he was, back then, as slim as it is now.
Anyway, just four months for the Tour. Then we'll know for sure. |

Matt Rice wins Merco Grand Prix ahead of Rahsaan Bahati and Hilton clarke. Bahati racing 1-2-3. Rice won from the break while clarke lead out bahati catching the guys Rice had attacked in the last corner.
