Unusual that the break won today, seemed like a pretty strong one too!

Unlucky result for the team, but at least it shows that Kittel is in great shape!

Too bad the break made it to the end, Kittel could have won this

@ all: Sometimes, it's strange to see that no team wants to let the stage end in a mass sprint. Especially with all the best sprinters present....

Stage 3
Another flat stage, however there are 1300 height metres. And tere is 1 classified KOTM-sprint, so the riders can sprint for the polka dot jersey.
192km to g
Saurs Johan Le Bon is the one that wins the KOTM-sprint after 11 kilometres. He's the fastest of a group of that has attacked before the climb started. Together with Steven Van Vooren, Thor Hushovd (these 2 again) and Alessandro Ballan (BMC) they manage to create a gap to the peloton.
60km to go
The leading group increases from 4 riders to 10. Stijn Vandenbergh (Katusha), Juan Antonio Flecha (Euskaltel), Said Haddou (Europcar), Paul Voss (Red Bull, again), Murilo Fischer (Sony Ericsson) and Matteo Montaguti (Acqua et Sapone) have bridged the gap to Le Bon, Van Vooren, Ballan and Hushovd. The Norwegian wins the Intermediate sprint, and knows he'll probably get to wear the maillot verde after today's stage.
4km to go
The BOTD is almost caught with 12km to go, when 2 riders attack out of the peloton. Sebastian Langeveld (Qantas) and Tosh Van der Sande (Omega Pharma) bridge the gap to the BOTD, and immediately leave them behind. Van der Sande must have a superday, as he also leaves Langeveld behind and creates a margin of a minute to a peloton, that is chasing like hell.......
Finish
And it's the 2nd breakaway win in 2 days, despite the routes are perfect for mass sprints. Tosh Van der Sande takes his first professional win, and it's one in the Tour de France!! Sebastian Langeveld couldn't follow the Belgian and has to settle with the 2nd place.
The peloton finishes in the same time as Van der Sande, and Matthew Goss wins the sprint for the 3rd place. Marcel Kittel takes a good 4th place. Again, no important time losses.

Today's Winner
Word from the DS
Not counting the ITT, 2 stages and 2 breakaway wins, as well as 2 Belgian wins. Today, only we and Garmin chased when Van der Sande and Langeveld attacked. And how the heck can a 23-year-old be faster in 10km than 2 sprint trains????? Tomorrow must be for the sprinters....

Wow, Van Der Sande with the race of a lifetime
But why aren't there any mass sprints... Obviously Kittel's ready for them, what's wrong with all those other teams! |

Someone has to chase the Breakaways, so Kittel can deliver the job. He has the legs to do it. |

What is going on in this Tour I want to see a mass sprint. But anyway, nice win for Van Der Sande.

Stage 4
Flat as a pancake, that is the summarization of stage 4. 174 kilometres from Evreux to Blois. The sprinter teams should be able to control this stage....
38km to go
The first 100km of the stage have been done at an extremely high pace. A lot of riders wanted to attack, among them for the 3rd day in a row Thor Hushovd, Paul Voss and Steven Van Vooren (of course......), but the peloton (that is: our team) didn't want to get a breakaway create a margin too big to catch them again.
But when Alessandro Petacchi (Acqua et Sapone), Dirk Bellemakers (Rabobank), Lars Boom (Saxo Bank), Thomas Voeckler (Europcar), Sebastian Langeveld (Qantas) and Frédéric Guesdon (AG2R) attacked, they simply rode too fast for our domestiques, so we decided to stop the chase. The gap increased to several minutes and with 38km to go, it is still 3'10. And strangely, Team Sky doesn't seem to wanna defend the maillot jaune of Cancellara, as the GC's number 2 Lars Boom is present in the breakaway.
2km to go
And this is exactly what is going wrong in this Tour, why there are no mass sprints. With 2km to go, the 6 still lead the peloton by '35. And there ain't no organized chase again. We try to do it, by forming a sprint train for Marcel Kittel. Then suddenly on the other side of the road, comes a Sky-rider rushing by, with his sprinter Cavendish not even in his wheel, but 3 others between them.....
Finish
So the sprint for the win is between 5 riders (Guesdon has been dropped), and with everybody expecting Alessandro Petacchi to win, being the best sprinter, it's fully logical that Thomas Voeckler takes the win, his first win in more than 2 years! Langeveld finishes in 2nd, Bellemakers in 3rd and Ale Jet in 4th, in front of Boom. But Boom knows he'll become the new GC-leader.
And guess who wins the peloton sprint pretty easily, at '29??
